The young brain is special The area of the brain associated with problem-solving and decision-making (the prefrontal cortex) is not highly developed in adolescence. The prefrontal cortex of boys matures slower than girls (2 years later) Moreover, the area of the brain which is responsible for emotions and feelings (amygdala) is highly developed The reward system of the brain shows high sensitivity which is associated with the satisfaction and reward The result of these processes are that teenagers tend to seek intense emotional excitement in risky behaviors more often!
