Valley Rovers started the game very sluggishly and only an outstanding save by Cormac Desmond prevented a goal in the first minute. After 10 minutes the scores were level at 2 points each with a point each from Kevin Canty and Fiachra Lynch. This was as good as it got in the first half as Newcestown completely dominated the game winning the fifty fifty challenges all over the field. The Rovers were very fortunate to only trail at half time by 6 points to 3, our 3rd point coming in the 25th minute from Fiachra Lynch. Despite making a number of changes at half time, Newcestown remained on top and after 40 minutes led 7 points to 4 points, Jack Walsh scoring Valleys point. Then came the game changing spell. John Cottrell fielding a high ball and scoring a great goal on 42 minutes to level the match. Eoghan Delaney pointed to put Valleys ahead and a minute later Adam Sentini hit a great left footed strike to extend the lead. Another excellent save from Cormac Desmond was followed by a second goal from man of the match John Cottrell. A point by David Lynch looked to have settled the game but a late goal and a point by Newcestown left Valleys with a 3 point lead. This set up a tense finish however Valleys withstood late pressure to seal victory. Congratulation to all the players and to team manager Ger Slyne, coach Mick Murphy and selectors Martin Cronin Tony O'Reilly. They were well pleased with the win and the performance in the last 20 minutes but the first half performance was a concern. Team: Cormac Desmond, Noel O'Donovan, Tim Cummins, Ian Crowley, Tomas O'Brien, David Lynch, Aaron Lyons, Kevin Canty, John Cottrell, William Hurley, Eoghan Delaney, Dara Lordan, Eoin O'Reilly, Fiachra Lynch, Jack Walsh. Subs used: Johnnie Kiely, Adam Sentini, Rory O'Sullivan Scorers: John Cottrell (2.0), Adam Sentini (1.0), Fiachra Lynch (0.2), David Lynch, Jack Walsh, Eoghan Delaney & Kevin Canty (0.1 each) Page 2 of 8

Rehearsals in full swing for the upcoming Strictly Valleys. Please Support! U9 Hurling League The U9 hurling squad played Eire Og in Ovens on a heavy pitch on April 7th in their first outing of the year. Each side had 3 teams and Valley Rovers acquitted themselves well in all matches, winning 5, drawing 2 and losing 2 matches. Next up is Kinsale in football. The Senior Football management team in deep discussion at the championship game U10 Football League Valley Rovers Under 10s took on Bandon in their second football game of the year in Bandon last Saturday morning. Valleys had three teams and did well in all three considering very little has been done on grass because of the weather. The Under 10s are due to play Erin's Own next Saturday in their first hurling outing of the year weather permitting. Well done to the following Valley Rovers panel: Charlie Lynch, Conor McGregor, Conor O'Donovan, Daniel Holland, Daniel Hyde, Daniel O'Donovan, Donnacha Lynch, Eoghan Galgey, Fionn Lucey, Harry Mc Court, Jack Healy, Jack McCarthy (Innishannon), Jack McCarthy (Castelack), Jack O Donoghue, Kyle Burke, Lewis Linehan, Liam O'Donovan, Mark Hurley, Matthew Humphries, Michael Croke, Paul Cremin, Ronan O'Leary, Rory Curtin, Ruadhan McCarthy, Sean O'Riordan, Tomás O'Riordan. U9 Football League The U9 team had a successful outing in Kinsale on Saturday Apr 14th. Following the inclement weather, the match was moved to Kinsale from Brinny but the U9 team played with all the intensity and confidence of a home team. Three teams of 8 took part with Valley Rovers winning six, drawing one and losing two matches in the round-robin matches of 20 minutes each. The improvement is becoming clearer each week among a very dedicated squad. Excellent performances were shown from Patrick Barry, Cathal Murphy, John Hennessy and Eanna Burke who deserved special praise for their hard work on the day. Page 3 of 8

Team: Under 21 B Championship Semi Final Valley Rovers under 21 footballers had a great win over Skibbereen last Saturday evening winning on a score of 2.09 to 2.4. Skibbereen won the toss and played with the strong wind in the first half. Skibbereen started well and were very physical and tenacious in their play. The score was 2 point each after 15 minutes. Valleys back were defending very well and running with the ball into the wind. After 20 minutes Eimear Kiely scored a fine goal to put valleys into a three point lead. Skibb added a point on the 25 minute and scored a goal just before half time to give them a one point lead at the break. Having played against the wind this was a reasonable position to be in however the Skibb girls appeared hungrier for the game than valleys and that was a concern. Immediately after the resumption Skibb scored a goal to give them a 4 point lead. With their backs against the wall Valleys showed great resolve and picked off a few points before Daire Kiely scored the goal that was badly needed. Using the wind to great advantage additional point from Kate Bernard and the Kiely Twins gave Valleys the final victory by 5 points. Getting into County finals doesn t come easy and this group of girls earned that right on Saturday evening as they beat an excellent Skibb Team. Skibb mentors were very gracious in defeat and spoke to the girls after the game saying they fancied their chances coming to Brinny but were beaten by a better team on the night. Valleys now face Araglen Desmonds in the County final on a date yet to be agreed. Well done to all involved! Jane Mulvihill, Carol Cremin, Rachel O Sullivan, Cathy O Dwyer, Niamh Hurley, Katie Lynch, Jennifer Murphy, Kate Wall, Grainne Dart O Flynn, Jennifer O Donovan, Eimear Kiely, Daire Kiely, Danielle Murphy, Kate Bernard, Alison Murphy. Scorers: Eimear Kiely (1-3), Daire Kiely (1-2), Kate Bernard (0-3), Grainne Dart O Flynn (0-1) Subs: Sinead Dart O Flynn, Cathy O Donovan, Laura Lowney, Laura Brew, Amy Allen, Amy Mulcahy, Grace O Reilly Result: Division 2 League Valley Rovers: 2-5(11) Rosscarbery: 4-12(24) Next Division 2 fixture is at home to Glanmire on the 23rd April. Minor C Camogie League Another win for Valley Rovers U18 Camogie team when they took on Bishopstown in the league on Saturday last. It was a great team performance with a final score of 3-5 to 1-7 to the Rovers. Keep it up girls. The Senior team have had to wait another while to kick off their top tier league campaign with the Round 1 fixture against Milford cancelled as Milford have pulled out of the league. The round 2 fixture was to be played against Glen Rovers last Friday but had to be postponed due to both club pitches being closed. So next up are St Finbarr s which will hopefully be fixed for the coming weekend. Registration reminder: Final reminder to all players & mentors to complete their registration as the deadline with Croke Park has now passed. Page 4 of 8
