Delmarva defeated the local Division III team by a final score of 8-4 last year. The Shorebirds finished the 2014 season with a 66-73 record, their most wins since 2009. TODAY S OPPONENT: The Salisbury University Seagulls, under first year head coach Troy Brohawn, are currently undefeated at 20-0 and ranked #3 in the NCAA Division III Coaches Poll. Yesterday, Salisbury crushed their opponent St. Mary s in a doubleheader, winning 31-12 and 28-0. Eight position players in the starting lineup are batting at least.320 after the team s first 20 games. 20TH SEASON: The 2015 season marks the 20th anniversary season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 19th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team. SIX YEARS RUNNING: This preseason exhibition will be the sixth straight year that the Shorebirds have hosted Salisbury University, with Delmarva winning every previous iteration. The scores of the prior games are: 2010 -- 9-6; 2011 -- 6-2; 2012 -- 2-1; 2013 -- 3-0; 2014 -- 8-4. ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles began their campaign as defending AL East Champions with an Opening Day victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, 6-2. Baltimore used the long ball just like last year, when they led the majors with 211 home runs. On Monday, the O s hit three homers from Alejandro de Aza, Steve Pearce and Ryan Flaherty. Newest acquisition Travis Snider, brought on to replace longtime Baltimore outfielder Nick Markakis, made quite the impression in his O s debut, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and an outfield assist. PLAYER TO WATCH BRIAN GONZALEZ P The left-handed starter was the Orioles top selection in the 2014 MLB Draft. The O s did not pick until the 3rd round by virtue of losing picks in compensation for signing free agents Nelson Cruz and Ubaldo Jimenez. The Florida native went into the draft straight out of high school and pitched just 33.2 innings in his rookie season in 2014. WHO S HOT/WHO ELSE WHO S HOT CONOR BIERFELDT The Shorebirds outfielder led the team with 12 home runs last season. That included a couple of important blasts like the walkoff home run on 4/27 vs. Charleston and the goahead grand slam at Lakewood on 7/11 WHO ELSE JOMAR REYES The 18-year-old is one of the most exciting youngsters in the Orioles farm system. Reyes batted.285 as a rookie in the Gulf Coast League last year, skipping over the Dominican Summer League

The left-hander split time between the bullpen and rotation with Delmarva in 2013 as well. The San Diego native joined the Orioles organization as a 40th round pick from the 2011 MLB Draft. LAST OUTING: Parry started during the final series of last season, pitched very effectively for five innings against the Hickory Crawdads. The lefty allowed one run on five hits, receiving a no-decision as he left during a 1-1 tie. Parry struck out six batters, but the Shorebirds eventually dropped the game 4-1. Exhibition Delmarva Shorebirds vs. Salisbury University Seagulls Arthur W. Perdue Stadium MANAGER RYAN MINOR Minor, 41, returns for his seventh season on the Shorebirds coaching staff, and his fifth as the team s manager. In 2014, he led the Shorebirds to 66 wins, the most victories for the franchise since 2009. This is Minor s second stint in Salisbury, having previously managed the Shorebirds for three seasons (2010-12) and spent two seasons (2008-09) as the hitting coach for the Shorebirds. In between, he managed the Frederick Keys (Advanced-A) in 2013. During his tenure as manager of the Shorebirds, the team compiled 232 wins, the most of any Delmarva manager. Minor aided the development of current Orioles, Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop, who played for the Shorebirds in 2011. Minor, a longtime resident of Salisbury with his wife Allyson and two children Reagan and Finley, enjoyed a four-year run in the major leagues from 1998 through 2001. He spent his first three years with the Orioles and his final season with the Montreal Expos. Minor s playing career is best remembered for replacing Cal Ripken, Jr. at third base on September 20, 1998 when the consecutive games streak of 2,632 came to a close. The Orioles drafted Minor in the 33rd round of the 1996 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Oklahoma. In 1997, he played for Shorebirds and was an SAL All-Star third baseman. He batted.307 with 24 home runs and 97 RBIs. Minor still owns the franchise single season records for doubles (42). Minor also owns a decorated college basketball career. He is sixth all-time in scoring at Oklahoma with 1,946 points. He was selected in the second round (32nd overall) of the 1996 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.
