4-H News 2017 Enclosed with this newsletter is an example of how to complete a project record. This should be kept on every project you are enrolled in and is due September 1. You will not receive your year pin unless you turn one in. Please take the time to fill these out so you can complete the 4-H year. Please note: we get a lot of these turned in with just the 4-H member s name and nothing else filled out; that is not acceptable!! OPPORTUNITIES Equine Trip The 2017 Missouri Equine trip is scheduled for May 22-28 for youth 14 18. The cost is $600 and the trip will be going to Texas and Oklahoma. This trip will focus on Western performance and rodeo. Rhonda Shafer will be going as a chaperone. Lincoln County will pay up to $275 for the first five kids interested in going for the first time. You must submit an essay stating why you want to go and it is due by the 24 4-H Council meeting. Contact the office for more information. 4-H Scholarships There are several 4-H scholarships listed in the Clover available for 2017 for incoming freshmen as well as upper classmen. The applications are due into the State 4-H Office April 1, 2017. Contact the office for a 4-H Clover and application. Award Sheets Members interested in keeping track of their 4-H participation through the year should contact the office for a copy of the award sheet. Many yearend awards are given based on points on the award sheet. Horse Members For all State horse related events and information, go to http://4h.missouri.edu/. Lincoln County Hog & Steer Members A mandatory meeting for exhibitors will be held 18 at 7 p.m. at the fairgrounds Regional Representative Applications Due If you want to run for a regional representative position on the state 4-H council, don t forget to turn in your application and letter stating why you want to serve on the council to your county extension office by February 1. Shooting Sports Members For all State Shooting Sports related events and information, go to: http://4h.missouri.edu/. Click on Projects & Opportunities, Outdoors & Nature, Shooting Sports. Attention Club Leaders Lincoln County Extension Office has three DVD s available to show at club meetings. They are how to give a demonstration, singing at your 4-H club meeting, and 4-H judging. Call the office to check them out. Need Financing for a 4-H or FFA Project? Youth between the ages of 10 and 20 years old, living in a town with a population of less than 10,000 with financing needs of $5,000 or less may qualify. For more information, contact the Farm Service Agency at 573-893-5196, extension 2. Montgomery County Fair Livestock Weigh-in Dates The steer weigh in will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 8:00-10:00 a.m. There is a minimum 1,000 pound weight at the fair for steers. The hog, goat, and lamb weigh in will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 8:00-10:00. For hogs, there is a 60 pound maximum weight at time of weigh in and then minimum of 230 pounds at fair. For lambs, there is a 90 pound minimum at fair. For goats, there is a 50 pound minimum at fair. 4-H News 2017 First Year Lincoln County Swine Members A meeting will be held February 15 th at 7 p m at the Extension office. All first year swine members are highly encouraged to attend. All others are welcome. Montgomery County 4-H shooting sports members The 740 4-H shooting sports safety classes is required for all members to be taken 2 times. After you have met this requirement you are good for your entire 4-H career. If you need to take the class, this year it will be Saturday, 21st 2017 at the Montgomery County High School cafeteria. The class will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with an hour break for lunch. The safety class does not count towards the project limit for any age group. Shooting sports paperwork- a letter will go out to all 4-H families that are enrolled in Shooting sports regarding paperwork for the upcoming year. Please like Montgomery County, MO 4-H shooting sports of Facebook for updates and information. Warren County Club Officer Training 10 All Club Officers are invited to attend this FUN training session put on by MU Collegiate 4-Her s. Pizza & Drinks provided. It is at 5:00 p m at the Extension Center. Club Leaders please RSVP to the Extension Center by 9 th. SMQA Show Me Quality Assurance - Warrenton High School 6:00 pm This is mandatory for all members showing livestock at the Warren County Fair. If you are showing livestock for the FIRST time, you are required to attend this workshop. The Workshop must be repeated twice before the age of 14 and once after age 14. Livestock Exhibitors look for information in the mail in early. If you are in doubt of whether you are due for recertification please call Carey Benne at the Extension office at 636-456-3444. Warren County Project Leader Training 24 Are you a new project leader for 4-H? Come to this training session at the Extension Center at 6:00 p m to help organize and plan your project year. Acquire informational resources, demonstration ideas and field trip or guest speaker opportunities. Also, learn about project records and reporting. Bring your questions and ideas to share. Spring Shooting Sports Leader Certification The next training will be March 24-26 at camp Life Change in Clinton. Registration will be through 4honline from February 1 to March 15 or until full. You must be active in the system to register. Contact the office if you have questions. Move Across Missouri Wouldn t it be great if you could get credit for all the action in your life? By joining the Move Across Missouri project, you can. This program promotes physical activity by encouraging youths & families to engage in physical activities they enjoy. Using a paper-tracking system, you can log minutes as an individual or as part of a team. To sign up, contact the office to have the project added to your profile, then go to: http://4h.missouri.edu/4hmove/movinfo. The new MOVE year begins now and runs until May 1. Show Me Equine Summit & Horse Judging A clinic will be held on Friday, February 24 from 2-6 p m at the National Equestrian Center in Lake St. Louis. REMINDERS Lincoln 4-H Council Committee Workshop The Lincoln County 4-H Council Committee workshop will be on 24 at 6 p.m. at the Extension Center. The following committees will begin work on planning their programs: Fun Fair, County Fair, and Judging and Achievement Day. Please make sure someone from your club is there, especially the Fun Fair Committee! This includes meeting deadlines for a given year, attendance at a majority of project and club meetings prior to the event, and meeting other requirements established by the club, county and/or state.
