New Member s Brunch hosted by Bill Oneida and Dan Torla Everything Trader Joe s hosted by Anne Marie & Thomas Pichotta and Pat & Vaughn Jenkes New Members Patricia & Robert Oklejwicz welcomed by Membership Chair Sharon Courtway March 2019 Published Bi-Monthly Ship Store Managers Laura Roskelly and Ginger Hegler

ERLENE PACE, COMMODORE Members, I hope you are all getting excited for April! This has been the coldest winter I can ever remember. Opening Day is Saturday April 13th, hosted by Jr. Staff Commodore, Cindy Broz Allen. It is the official kick off of the 2019 boating season. I would like to thank, Robin & Jean Clark for volunteering the Fin-Tastic again to be the Grand Poobah of the boat parade. Please, if you would like your boat to participate, contact Rear Commodore, Donna Wells. If you have ever attended another Yacht Club s Opening Day, you would know that most do not have such a fabulous opportunity to be escorted through our beautiful harbor. Don t miss out! SIGN-UP!! Our next event is the Ensenada Cruise, Sunday-Thursday May 5th-8th, hosted by Diane Kaplan & Rich Maier. This will be quite the party! If you haven t signed up already, please contact the hosts to see if there are any available cabins. Thanks for your support to make 2019 a year to remember! FRANCIS OKINO, VICE COMMODORE New Year s Eve: The Pajama Party lived to its billing! Immediately the guests came in, they were escorted to take a picture, laying on the bed! Yes, most of the guests wore their favorite pajama, though not exactly like Hugh Hefner. The drinks kept on flowing all night, the band performed as expected and yes, dancing in pajama was challenging but everybody enjoyed themselves until the ball drop. It was indeed a fun filled event and we extend our warmest appreciation to the event hosts, Commodore Erlene Pace and Port Captain Michael Pace. New Member Brunch: Though lack of attendance generated a little bit of concern at the beginning, event hosts Dan Torla and William (Bill) Oneida were able to work with Acapulco and the event went on as scheduled. Six boats participated and everybody had a good time on the boats sipping champagne and munching on appetizers brought on board by guests. We wholeheartedly thank the six boat skippers for volunteering their boats for the event. As usual, Acapulco had plenty of food, the champagne kept flowing and the program went smoothly. The stars of the event though, were Ship Store managers Laura Roskelly and Ginger Hegler, who sold a record amount of SGYC merchandise at the event Congratulations! Dan and Bill have agreed to host the event again next year and they promise that it will be even better and with that we express our appreciation for what they did and what they will do next year. DONNA WELLS, REAR COMMODORE Hello SGYC! Everyone on the board is excited about SeaGate Yacht Club Opening Day. We hope that you will be joining us on April 13, 2019. We have a wonderful event planned for everyone to enjoy. Mark your calendars for a day filled with ceremony and fun for all. And a Big THANK YOU to everyone who attended the New Member s Brunch and shared your vessels with the club. On behalf of the board, I am greatly appreciative of your generosity. Until Next Time!! DR. MARK MONROE, M.D., FLEET SURGEON FIRE is the scariest word on a boat. There is no place to escape to and help will take too long to get there. You have to prepare by outfitting your boat with the proper types and US Coast Guard approved fire extinguishers determined by the boat size For the rest of the story and more of Dr. Monroe s very informative articles go to www.sgyc.club, choose Information on Marine Medical and Safety by Fleet Surgeon, Mark Monroe, M.D. then scroll down to Handling Fire at Sea.

For the New Member s Brunch hosted by Bill Oneida and Dan Torla 66 members and 2 new members shared a beautiful day cruzing to Acapulco restaurant in Long Beach in 6 boats Floyd and Mira D Angelo, RO III, Richard and Judie Kappes, LUCKY CHANGE II, Robin and Jean Clark, FIN-TASTIC, Larry and Marilyn Schwartz, TWO DOGS AND A DINGY III, Robert Sanabria Hatt R US and Greg and Kathy Lee, KATHLEEN.

A successful new event this year, Everything Trader Joes Potluck, was hosted by Pat & Vaughn Jenkes and Anne Marie & Thomas Pichotta. From the wine tasting, to the potluck dinner to the paper airplane contest and dancing to DJ George the evening was a hit. So many good pics, too few will fit. See www.sgyc.club for all the pictures.
