EDUCITY DUATHLON PARTICIPANTS TOUR ISKANDAR PUTERI 450 athletes compete for titles and thrills ISKANDAR PUTERI, 15 FEBRUARY 2018 The inaugural EduCity Duathlon on 10 February 2018 took 450 endurance race athletes on several scenic routes on their run and cycle legs in Iskandar Puteri. Once again, the city that has been hosting extreme sports and marathons in the past few years had attracted athletes from Malaysia, Singapore, Philippine, Thailand, New Zealand and England to battle it out for the top titles. Mayor of Iskandar Puteri, Haji Adib Azhari bin Daud flagged off Endurance Race participants at 7.00 a.m., and athletes quickly rushed off to complete a 10 km running leg, 60 km cycle sprint and another 10 km run to arrive triumphally at the finishing line. Sprint category participants were flagged off fifteen minutes later by EduCity Managing Director, Joanne Oei, to complete the tasks of finishing a 5 km run, 30 km cycle and another 5 km run before earning their Finisher medals. Mohd Azuan Asmuni and Alisson Yee won the respective Men and Women Endurance Overall Champion titles with a record time of 02:57:23 and 03:23:51 respectively. Both were clearly overjoyed with their results and vowed to continue their training diligently for the next race. Mohd Zuhar Ismail and Tan Pei Lin also took home the well-deserved titles in Sprint category with a record time of 01:30:06 and 01:50:21 respectively. I did not have much time to prepare myself for the race, but I use 30 minutes in the morning to train for this big day, said Tan. A teacher by profession, she did not let her hectic schedule dampen her competitive spirit. Mohd Halif Husin, the winner of Men Open (18-29) category, said he consistently competed for the podium spot with Mohd Azuan Asmuni who is also his colleague at Kem Sungai Udang in Melaka. He further added that there were 12 other colleagues from the camp who completed the duathlon, and they regularly travelled as a group and put their endurance power to the test.
Joanne said The duathlon tested athletes determination to reach the finishing line and EduCity is proud to gather such active sportsmen and sportswomen today. Duathlon is not a small feat, and we hope this visionary display of willpower and hope will inspire our young children to detach themselves from their gadgets. Iskandar Puteri has so much to offer to young athletes in terms of space, and that include dedicated cycling lanes in Medini for budding cyclists." Joanne gave away cash prizes and medals to deserving winners and said that more sporting activities are in the pipeline for 2018, including the much-awaited EduCity Sundown Marathon, Kickboxing, Swimming and Rugby fests. ### About Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) is a Catalyst of Change and a key player in Iskandar Malaysia s transformation into a regional metropolis of international standing.
