This term the students in B5 have been studying a number of interesting topics. In Society and Environment we have been researching China. As a part of our studies we were required to produce a PowerPoint that consisted primarily of our own work. We worked in groups of four and sourced our material from the computer, personal experience, friends and family. We had to answer a number of questions some of which were: How does today s life in Western Australia compare to that of Ancient China? How were women and children treated in Ancient China? What festivals were celebrated in Ancient China and are any of them still observed today? After a lot of hard work and editing we presented our PowerPoint to the rest of the class. Clement s group presented their work in both English and Mandarin. In science we have been looking at the topic Energy and Change. In Term 1 we looked at earthquakes. It was particularly interesting to learn about how the tectonic plates move and the destruction this can cause. We researched some of the biggest and most destructive earthquakes around the world, discovering one was even big enough to blow the Indonesian island of Krakatoa to pieces. This term we have continued the theme of Energy and Change studying electricity. We have investigated circuits and how they work. In health we looked at Bullying and the role of different people in the process of bullying. We wrote a short scenario on a person being bullied, took photos of us acting out the scenario and then produced a story board using the script and photographs. These are on display in the classroom if you would like to come and see them. B5 is excited to showcase their hard work to parents and other students! 1 S:/209 Publications

Bull Creek Primary School From the Principal s Desk Netball Court Upgrade In the last newsletter I thanked Ryan Lance for modifying the netball posts for us. On Sunday that same netball court was re-marked by a professional line marking company - what a difference some paint makes! Good luck to our Netballers for their games this term. P & C Quiz Night Since our last newsletter we have had our Quiz Night which was a wonderful fun event. Tara Snell, our P & C President and her group of organisers did an amazing job organising the whole event and securing so many generous sponsors - the prizes were fantastic. A big Thank You to our sponsors. Many families and friends of the school organised tables and had a great time. Mr Jim Boyes did a very entertaining job of Quiz Master - thank you for your great energy on the night. The profits made on the evening go to a very good cause - in fact, I cannot think of a better cause - the girls and boys of Bull Creek Primary School! Our P & C each year and over many years have contributed between $20 000 and $30 000 per year to the school. We are a very well equipped primary school and it is functions like our Quiz Night and other events that have both financial and social benefits for the entire school community. B5 Assembly Well done to B5 for their very entertaining item at last Friday s assembly. There were several speaking and acting parts and the children really relished the opportunity to perform their roles. There were so many funny one liners that it was difficult to catch them all. To the teachers - Mrs Simon, Mrs Walshe and Miss Newman (from Notre Dame University) -thank you and well done! Rapunzel Last Friday the New Zealand Playhouse performed the Brothers Grimm classic, Rapunzel, for the students. It was a three person troupe who with their very quick costume changes took on the role of several characters. It was a very dynamic show enjoyed very much by the children. Tim Cremin 2

Oh What a Night Congratulations to Tara, La La and everyone else that was involved in the Quiz Night. It was a fantastic night and the teachers on the Mouseketeers Table thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Of course it was topped off by our well deserved win!!! Because the students and staff of Bull Creek benefit from all of the fund raising the P&C undertakes we decided to donate our prize to the second placed table. Thank you for a wonderful night. Sue Martin JUMP ROPE FOR HEART! Would you like to get a mystery prize? All you have to do is jump online and start fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart. When you are one of the first 25 kids at your school who raise $30 or more online, you will get a mystery prize! This might be a soccer ball, portable speakers, kite, pogo stick, a hockey goal set or even a pair of moon boots! Wow! So jump online and ask your friends and family to sponsor you today! Happy skipping. Tanja Colgan Junior Choir Perform at SingFest Last Friday our Junior Choir had their very first public performance at the South Metropolitan SingFest. We joined five other local schools for a morning of singing and fun. Together we sang four community songs and each school presented an item. Our choir sang the Bobby Day hit, Rockin' Robin. It was fantastic to see a lot of families and friends there to support our Junior Choir. I d like to thank Mrs Meyer, Miss Di Fonzo, Mrs Martin and Miss Mifsud for supervising the students on the bus and during the performance. Plus an extra special thanks to Mrs Meyer for putting together the Rocking Robin costume for Anna who introduced our item. It was great to see everyone in the Junior Choir so enthusiastically involved on the day. They sang really well and represented Bull Creek Primary in a most professional manner. Mr Marshall Music Specialist LANGUAGE PERFECT Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Language Perfect World Championship. You put our school in 6th position in WA for German.
