T H O R O U G H B R E D R A C I N G STEWARDS REPORT MEETING HELD AT ESPERANCE BAY TURF CLUB ON SATURDAY, 6 FEBRUARY 2016 Meeting No: 152 Weather: Fine Track: Good (3) Rail: Out 2metres between the 1300m to 350m cutaway to true in the straight. Stewards: Veterinary Surgeon: Medical Officer: M.L. Vickers (Main Tower) C.D. Brown (8), Club Steward S. Barter (Fl/Gear) Dr D. Swan. Dr N. Hodge. On arrival, on course, Stewards conducted a routine track inspection, and it was ascertained that the running rail which had been advertised in the true position was incorrect and the official rail position was out 2meters between 1300m to the 350m with a cutaway in the straight. This information was disseminated with relevant public announcements made. RACE 1: WAITANGI DAY HANDICAP - 1100M Acting under ARR. 134(A) and after viewing the patrol film and the live observations by Stewards, it was ascertained that WASHINGTON SQUARE (Ryan Hill) was denied a fair start due to the blindfold not being removed in a timely manner as the start was effected resulting in the gelding not being able to commence with the balance of the field and, as a result, lost considerable ground. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on WASHINGTON SQUARE be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers be subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: 1st) INCARCERATION less 22c win and 20c place. 2 nd ) OOSTERMAN less 23c place. Following this incident the Official Starter was interviewed and he stated that the barrier attendant assigned to the gelding in the barriers stalls, when attempting to remove the blindfold had become caught on the bridle resulting in a delay to this piece of gear being fully removed and as such the official Starter had anticipated the removal of this gear and released the field. Stewards reminded the Starter of his duties to ascertain that all gear is completely removed from all runners before releasing the field in the future. HUSSARS Slow to begin losing one length. LOOKING ON Pulled hard through the early and middle stage. Lay outwards making the 800m turn and raced wide thereafter. RACE 2: KLEEN WEST DISTRIBUTORS MAIDEN - 1600M Routine Specimens were taken from the winner NAPA LIAISON. COMMANDER MAK Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages. SLICK GETAWAY Raced wide throughout. Mis-strode and fell for no apparent reason on pulling up resulting in its rider being dislodged. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind. Trainer Ms J. Hossel was advised that the gelding must trial

TUKURUA Slow to begin losing one length. Carried inwards, crowded and restrained approaching 1400m. Raced keenly through the middle stages. Steadied getting its head in the air passing the 900m. BRASCO'S BOY Raced tightly with another runner and was brushed over the concluding stages. CHERABIN Raced keenly through the early stages, mis-strode, steadied and shifted inwards approaching the 1400m. NAPA LIAISON In relation to the apparent improved performance, Trainer Mr. B. Corver advised that at its last it was his instruction to be on pace if possible, however after commencing slowly raced in a rearward position whereas today it had commenced well and as such lead the event which in his opinion resulted in the improved run. Trainer further advised that the gelding would be ridden in a similar manner if possible for future starts. FOXY DANE Raced wide from the 600m. LOVE SECRET Commenced awkwardly. Steadied when improving onto heels 1200m. Raced wide on straightening. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for TUKURUA (Chelsi Forder) being carried inwards and crowded and having to be restrain approaching the 1400m. It was ascertained through this section CHERABIN (Craig Staples) which was racing to its outside had mis-strode leading into this section and shifted inwards despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in the above interference. Stewards noted that this incident was highlighted by the fact Apprentice Forder after being slow to begin had allowed her mount to stride into a position which had placed her in restricted racing room through this section of the race and was advised in similar circumstances to ride with caution when improving quickly to the inside of other runners. Following this race Jockey, Mark Forder was examined by the Club s Medical Officer due to being dislodged passing the winning post and was passed fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. RACE 3: SHARPE BROTHERS MAIDEN - 1200M Routine Specimens were taken from the winner ON ALL FOURS. WAR CROWN Commenced awkwardly and was slow to begin. ON ALL FOURS Connections advised that from its wide barrier it would attempt to be ridden midfield if possible and public announcement were made. Pulled hard through early and middle stages. Rider advised that after commencing well the gelding had begun to pull hard and as such allowed it to stride forward into its normal racing pattern. EARSRED Slow to begin. BOLD HUSSON Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. Crowded and steadied near the 800m. Raced wide throughout. Trainer Mr. D. Casey advised the gelding will now be retired. SHE'S GAGA Angled inwards on straightening to secure clear running. SPICED UP Crowded shortly after the start. Impeded for a short distance approaching the 100m. FLAMING FAMOUS Raced wide throughout. Lay inwards in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for BOLD HUSSON (Simone Altieri) being crowded and steadied near the 800m. Jockey Glen Smith (ON ALL FOURS) was cautioned and reminded of his obligations to fully clear of other runners before crossing in future. When assessing this
ESPERANCE : 06.02.16 152/3 Race 3 Continued incident, Stewards noted that BOLD HUSSON was racing fiercely through this section of the race which had contributed to this incident. Following this race Jockey Mark Forder sought and was granted permission to be replaced from his remaining engagements due to general soreness developing. RACE 4: LANDMARK HANDICAP - 1200M Routine Specimens were taken from the winner (BEAR TRADER) Taylor Stone SPIRIT OF JAXON Slow into stride losing one length. Raced wide on straightening and lay inwards in the straight. CARIBBEAN CRUISE Raced wide throughout. Lay outwards in the straight. RACE 5: RAIL SOCIAL CLUB HANDICAP - 1100M TOTAL ADVANTAGE Underwent a veterinary examination in the mounting enclosure and was passed fit to start. In relation to his riding between the 350m and 250m, rider advised that his instructions were to get the gelding balanced on straightening and ride it in a hands and heels manner and limit the use of the whip in an effort to save it for a late finishing sprint. Trainer Mr. G. Burger confirmed these instructions and advised it will be ridden in a similar manner for future starts. CHOP IT OUT Connections advised that the gelding would be ridden on pace from a favourable barrier if possible and public announcements were made. IBRAHIMOVIC Raced wide throughout. UNDISCLOSED DESIRE Slow to begin losing one length. Impeded over the final 125m. DEIDRE Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to it receiving a minor abrasion to its forehead in the stabling area and was passed fit to start. IT'S SCANDALOUS - Raced wide throughout. RED SQUALL - Raced wide throughout. TRADE WEST Pulled hard through the middle stages. RACE 6: MCD CONTRACTING HANDICAP - 1600M Routine Specimens were taken from the winner (FORMIDABLE STORM) Tayla Stone. Stewards ordered the later withdrawal of MY DIAMOND PEG at 2.18pm due to no rider being available. TENDER VALUES Steadied when racing close to the heels of another runner near the 1000m. DUKE OF DOWNS Lay outwards in the straight. PRINCE CHARMING Raced wide throughout. CALL TO WAR Raced wide from the 500m. FRIAR'S LUCK Slow to begin losing two lengths. Impeded for a short distance on straightening. Angled inwards at the 200m for clear running. RIBOTIQUE Impeded for a short distance on straightening. RACE 7: TAB TOUCH HANDICAP - 1950M Routine Specimens were taken from the winner CUT SNAKE (Mitchell Pateman) ULTIMATE SUCCESS Raced wide on straightening. LOOKATIM GO Raced wide until obtaining a position outside the leader passing the 1300m. CUT SNAKE Raced wide from the 600m. BROCKY'S DEAL Lay outwards in the straight. HARA PRINCE Raced keenly through the early and middle stages and raced wide for the majority of the event. HOCKNEY Raced wide throughout. Crowded when under pressure passing the 200m.
ESPERANCE : 06.02.16 152/4 Race 7 Continued KING OF OLYMPIA Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the Gelding to have bled from the near side nostril. Acting under ARR 153(A)(7) Trainer Mr. D. Casey was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. Trainer further advised that the gelding will now be retired. MARTINKA Bounded on jumping and lost considerable ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. In relation the performance, rider advised that after the mare bounded on jumping it had resulted in him losing the use of his off side iron placing him at a disadvantage through the early stages and only regained the use of the iron passing the 1400m and as such trailed the field considerably. SCENIC BLITZ Impeded for clear running from on straightening to approaching the 150m. RACE 8: NEWTON/CONDINGUP FOOTBALL CLUB HANDICAP - 1300M Stewards ordered the later withdrawal of GOLD CLUB at 4.30pm due to no rider being available. CAROB Raced wide from the 600m. SCANDALOUS LADY Returned having cast the near fore plate during running. THE BLACK WATCH Raced wide throughout. MAKYBE'S ME AUNTY Slow into stride losing one length. Rider advised that the mare was disappointing and didn t travel strongly at any stage. A Post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Ms, J. Hossell will be contacted in relation to its recovery and future intentions. GENERAL The following horses were selected for pre-race blood samples to be taken: Race 7. CUT SNAKE, HITO Race 8. Apprentice Jockey Taylor Stone (OOSTERMAN) was reprimanded under ARR.137A(5)(a)(ii) for striking her mount on two additional occasions then permitted prior to the 100m. Race 3: Jockey Simone Altieri (BOLD HUSSON) was reprimanded under ARR.137A(5)(a)(i) for striking her mount consecutively on three occasions prior to the 100m. Race 5. Jockey Kyra Yuill (CHOP IT OUT) was fined $150 under ARR.137A(5)(a)(ii) for striking her mount on three additional occasions then permitted prior to the 100m. Race 8: Apprentice Brody Kirby (DIVALICIOUS) was cautioned under ARR.137A(5)(a)(ii) for striking his mount on one additional occasion prior to the 100m Race 4: DUEL ATTACK Jockey Simone Altieri replaced Jockey Mark Forder (Injured) Race 7: HARRA PRINCE Apprentice Casey Hunter replaced Jockey Mark Forder.
