St Ed s Sports Snippets Term Two Week Ten Wednesday 29th June 2016 St Edward s School Sports Newsletter Email: nmcculloch@stedwardstamworth.catholic.edu.au If you would like something to appear in the Sports Snippets in 2016 please email to the school by Monday 12 noon. Thank you! Hockey Several boys from St Edward s have been selected for Tamworth sides in the upcoming York Cup for Hockey. Congratulations to all of the following boys who will be representing Tamworth: Luke Gray, Jayden Scott, Mitchell Scott, Liam Dahl, Haydon Hunt, Padraig Maher, Lucas Dunnill, Ryan Dunnill, Aiden Jameson, Thomas Clark and Isaiah Craig. Gymnastics Emily Tobin in 1W competed at Tamworth Gymnastics Club Winter Carnival on Sunday 26th June. Emily was awarded a Gold Medal for her overall score and was the overall highest scoring Level 1 Champion. This is Emily's first year competing at National Level, so she is very proud of herself and is loving every minute of it! Basketball Miss Mace has been busily putting new and old players into basketball teams ready for next term. This is a big task as many aspects need to be considered. Miss Mace is trying to make the teams fair, whilst also trying to meet the requests made by parents and students alike. Please understand that this can be a tricky job and that at the end of the day, basketball is about having fun and experiencing a great game. NB: We are still looking for coaches for the teams. If you are able to assist, please let Miss Mace know ASAP. Coaches are responsible for training and running the team on. If you are able to train a team that isn't already doing so, please organise with the coach. MINIBOLTS DEVELOPMENT SQUAD FOR PRIMARY AGED PLAYERS Tamworth Basketball will be running a Development Squad for primary aged boys and girls Monday afternoons starting on the 20 th June until the 25 th July. The Squad will then restart on the 9 th August until the end of Term 3. These are skills based sessions teaching basic fundamentals for all players. Also for players considering playing Rep Basketball in 2017, this is a great way to prepare for the Under 12 (players born 2006/2007) Thunderbolt try outs to be held towards the end of the year. Sessions run from 4.30-5.30pm and cost is $3.00 per session.

Jason Crocker Marketing Officer Armidale Diocesan Investment Group PO Box 3619 Tamworth NSW 2340 Phone: (02) 6765 9256 Fax (02) 6765 7296 Mobile: 0412 739 128 Email: jason@adig.com.au Diving Just a quick note to let you know the NSW Institute of Sport is on the lookout for Australia s next diving gold medallist with our come and try day at Sydney Olympic Park. For the first time in Australia we re hosting a week long talent identification camp. Last time we hosted a TID, we had over 90 kids come and try the sport, but this time we re focusing on continuing the success and giving kids an opportunity to do diving training for an entire week, not just one day. The day is run by the NSWIS Diving Program under our coaches Chava Sobrino (four time Olympic coach, coached Matt Mitcham to gold in Beijing), Joel Rodriguez (two time Olympian and world championship silver medallist) and Vyninka Arlow (two time Olympian, Commonwealth Games gold medallist), so all the athletes are learning from the best in the sport. There s also no need to have necessary diving experience, it s all about getting involved on the day and trying something new. It s a great initiative for kids who are looking to take up a sport that is fun, takes a lot courage and is one of the Olympic Games most recognisable events. If you re interested, please register at vyninka.arlow@nswis.com.au Thank you. NSW Rugby Development Holiday Camps NSW Rugby Development is once again pleased to be holding a number of Holiday Camps around the state in the upcoming school holidays in July. The North West date and location is: Wednesday 6th July @ Farrer Memorial Ag School, Calala Lane, Tamworth It is an action packed day of skills, drills and games which runs from 9.00am-3.00pm. The cost is $95 (early bird price is $90, if paid prior to 1/7/16) and all participants receive a sports pack of goodies. Waratah player Ben Robinson will be in attendance at the camp. The camp is open to boys and girls aged U7s to U13s (born 2003-2009). Register at http://www.nswrugby.com.au/community/startplayingrugby/camps/julyschoolholidaycamps.aspx Athletics Our annual School Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday 4th August 2016 (Week 3 next term) and our Trial Athletics Carnival will be held Wednesday 20th July (Wednesday first week back). Permission notes went home for the Trial day on Monday 20th June. If any parents are able to help out at the Trial Day, please return the slip sent home with the permission note before the end of term. Permission notes and helper notes for our School Athletics Carnival will be sent home next term in Week 2. The Trial Day is only for Years 2-6. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in the high jump event during lunch time with Mrs Dubois this week. High jump is not held at our School Carnival, so this is the only opportunity the students will get to compete in this event. High jump is only for students who have competed or compete in Little Athletics. Please bring in a change of clothes every day this week. If you have any concerns or enquiries, please phone Mrs Gippel at the Primary Campus.
