4th Gavin Divelbiss Jr, Jackson Neeb Sr, Lucas Hakme Silva Jr, Christian Nelson Sr, 3:59.10 It was a good opportunity to give the new swimmers a chance to see what a large invitational meet is like which is similar to the state meet. It also gave them a chance to see what it takes to make it to be a top swimmer in the state. We still have a lot of work to do on our relays to limit false starts and make sure our timing is spot on if we want to be competitive at the state meet. Wednesday, December 19, 2018 Wednesday night found the Astros mat men hosting the perennial state champion Timberlane Owls. In front of a large, energy-filled crowd, the Astros were attempting to end the Owls 166 meet NH win streak, which dates back to 2007. In the end, Pinkerton came up short by a score of 40-19, but served notice to the Owls that they will be in contention at year's end. Picking up victories for the Astros were Captains Walker Stinson, with a thrilling overtime victory at 126 pounds, and Robbie Fahey, with 2nd period pin at 220 pounds. Kyle Setzer kept his perfect season going with a major decision at 195 pounds. Jacob Dube (170) and Sterling McLaughlin (182) both picked up decisions to round out the scoring. Everyone put in a great effort, and the coaching staff knows that this team has much left to accomplish. Next up: Varsity will be at the Lowell Holidays Tourney; JVs will be at the Windham JV Tourney. Our next HOME MEET will be Wednesday, January 2nd, vs Salem in the Shepard Gym. JV at 5, Varsity at 6. Thursday, December 27 & Friday, December 28 Varsity: Lowell Holiday Tournament The winter break found the Astros wrestlers travelling to Lowell for their annual trip to the George Bossi Lowell Holidays tournament. In a field of 76 teams from all over New England, the Astros finished in a very strong 7th place, their best finish since the field was expanded above 60 teams. In a grueling 2-day event, Pinkerton ended up with 5 of their 13 wrestlers placing. Earning placing medals for the Astros were David Hammond, 8th at 132 pounds, Tyler MacKiernan, 5th at 152 pounds, Robbie Fahey, 5th at 220 pounds, Kyle Setzer, 3rd at 195 pounds, and Sterling McLaughlin, 2nd at 182 pounds. While all performances at Lowell are notable, special mention needs to be given to Kyle Setzer's performance. He was stunned by an upset in his first match of the tournament and persevered to come all of the way back to take 3rd. In doing so, he had to win his

next 8 matches in a row. This accomplishment is a testament to his commitment and conditioning level. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 Varsity:Pinkerton 51 - Salem 25 Following Lowell, the wrestlers were back in action on the first day of school after New Year's; hosting a talented Salem Blue Devils squad in the Shepard Gym. While both teams were dealing with significant absences from their lineups, the Astros came out on top with a solid 51-25 victory. Picking up wins by pin for Pinkerton were David Hammond, Tyler MacKiernan, Isaac Cohen, Jacob Dube, Dominic Robinson and Nathan Lindquist. Robbie Fahey bumped up to heavyweight to pick up an 8-7 decision, and Walker Stinson and Christian Kuechler both picked up forfeits. Next up for the Astros mat men: The continuation of our long, yellow stretch limo tour of New England high schools with a trip to Bennington, VT for the Mt Anthony Union Tournament on Saturday, January 5th. Saturday, January 6, 2019 Varsity: Mt. Anthony Invitational The Astros continued their tour of New England gymnasiums on Saturday, with a 3 hr trip to the Mt Anthony Tourney in Bennington, VT.
