BROOME COUNTY SPORTSMEN S ASSOCIATION Since 1919 Foley Road, Kirkwood, New York Oct - Nov. - Dec. 2011 Presidents letter The rain has ruined this part of the fall for many. There are those who will be unable to hunt as much as they would like because of the rain. We wish as many as are able to get out will enjoy the season. The flood has not as yet done any permanent damage at the club; although the weather has put off getting regular maintenance of the grounds. Looks as though the weather will be unsettled this fall. Wishing you all the best for the holidays. There is a great deal to be thankful for this year in spite of the flooding. John MEMBERSHIP REPORT We are now in the 2011-12 membership year. Close to 500 members have already renewed their membership. If you have not done so, we urge you to renew ASAP. THE COMBINATION LOCKS WILL BE CHANGED OCTOBER 1ST. WITHOUT A NEW WHITE MEMBERSHIP CARD, YOU WILL NO LONGER HAVE ACCESS TO THE RANGES. Members may choose how they receive this BCSA quarterly newsletter. Over 100 members receive it in their e-mail inbox and others have chosen to view it online. These methods do reduce printing and mailing costs. Most newsletters are still delivered through the USPS mail and we will continue this service. The choice will remain yours. NO NOTIFICATION IS NECESSARY IF YOU LIKE THE WAY YOU RECEIVE THE NEWSLETTER NOW. To change the method by which you receive the newsletter, please contact me by phone at 607-648-8193 or e-mail at ithrall@stny.rr.com. Don t forget to renew or join the NRA through BCSA. You may save money and BCSA gets a rebate from the NRA. Please call or e-mail me to request a special recruiter form with business reply envelope or you may go to www.bcsportsmen.org and use a credit card to join on line by clicking on the Join NRA Here link. We thank our members for their continuing support. Irma Thrall Attention - Rifle Range Safety Before anyone goes down range to attend targets All rifles are to be unloaded, magazines removed bolts open and placed in rifle rack Pistols - magazines out, slides back and placed on table. Safety and consideration for fellow members is every ones responsibility. Pistol Range The same goes for this range - Only.22 cal. rifle can be used on this range. Pistols - same - Loaded pistols are not to be carried down range when attending targets. BCSA wants every one to use safe handling of fire arms and have fun shooting. Proof of Membership must be carried when on B.C.S.A. property. Which shall be: a Club issued membership card clearly displayed by member on outer clothing above the waist at all times when on Club property.

2011 BCSA Newsletter Page 2 The NRA Junior Rifle instruction class Will be held over a six week period starting early in 2012. The classes will be held on Thursday nights between 7 and 9 PM sharp. The participants will learn the basics of firearm safety, position shooting and competition. Students will have to be 12 years of age when the classes begin and also be Junior members of BCSA ($5 membership). The club will supply the equipment and ammunition for all the shooting. Students will need to bring eye and ear protection to each class. Please contact Ken Gill at 723-8849 if you are interested. Sporterifle Report Tuesdays sporterifle practice started Sept.13th. 5:30. The 1st official match is on the 20th. Thru out the season. Tuesday practice is at 5:30 and matches start at 6:00. Informal practices will be held on Sundays 12:10-2:30. Welcome back to Sporterifle, Yes it is that time! With the number of shooters expected this year there is a possibility of 3 teams. Experienced shooters who wish to shoot all 3 targets in a row with no scoring break will be allowed as sometimes 3 relays is very time consuming. Matches are starting 1/2 an hour earlier than last year. For those who can t be there on time, I ll wait until all have had an opportunity to shoot their targets. The season started Sept.13th with an informal practice at 5:30. The rest of the season follows from Sept. 20th: practice at 5:30 and match at 6:00 every Tuesday throughout the season. Sundays will be open for practice at 12:10 until around 2:30 throughout. Please practice safely and courteously as we ve a large number of shooters. Times and dates are subject to change due to holidays! Shoot often, safely and keep your powder dry!! Captain Ron Air Rifle Report The 2011 air rifle field target season is winding down. Mother Nature was not kind and gave us all kind of different conditions throughout the season, but nothing the shooters couldn t handle. We continued to draw in shooters from all parts of New York State, Central Pennsylvania and Connecticut. There were quite a few new faces that came out to give the sport a try and now they re hooked! Next years season will start in May. There is always extra equipment and people willing to help out, so come on out and give it a try. If you have questions, you can browse the website (http://www. bcsportsmen.org/ft/ftindex.html) or contact the match director at ft1@bcsportsmen.org. As always, have a great off-season, and see you in the spring. Greg Shirhall TRAP LEAGUE REPORT Hi Its Laurie. Because of the lack of interest this year we had to cancel the league. We will try again next year. Hopefully we will have better luck then. Thank you. Laurie Attention InDoor Range Members When placing targets down range. Targets are not to be so close that you can not see at least 2 feet of the back stop under the target. This is to prevent bullets from hitting the floor and metal skirt, and Ricochet up thru the ceiling and the roof. If you see other shooters doing this - please point out this incorrect placement and help maintain safety of the range.

2011 BCSA Newsletter Page 4 Silhouette Report Not much to report about silhouette this year. The number of shooters is lower than previous years with more shooters from Pennsylvania shooting here than BCSA members. For anyone interested in the scores and averages for smallbore silhouette they have been posted on the BCSA website. Thanks to Ron Chidester and Fred Rupert for helping to set 160 targets before each match - I appreciate it, guys. I will not be match director for smallbore silhouette next year.
