REGIONAL UNDERGRADUATE STEP SHOW Friday, March 20, 2015 Doors Open at 9:00 PM, Show Begins at 9:30 PM Hyatt Regency Columbus - Downtown 350 North High Street Columbus, OH 43215 Registration/Prize Overview: Step Teams will be accepted from All Divine Nine Organizations First Place Prize: $1000; Second Place Prize: $300 There are two categories: All D9 Organizations and Sigma Grad & UG Teams Team Registration Fee: $50, non-refundable Registration Deadline: Friday, February 27, 2015 Members not included in team roster will be required to have a ticket for the show. To purchase tickets, please visit our page on Eventbrite: www.75thcrdiamondconference.eventbrite.com. Please Note: There is limited space in the show. Teams will be added on a first come first serve basis as completed registration materials (forms and fee) are received. All teams planning to participate should submit registration materials on time in order to secure their spot in the show. Please note that incomplete registration forms will be returned and will delay, if not prevent, successful entry in the competition. For convenience, teams may email scanned copies of the registration forms but all fees should be mailed. Fees must be postmarked by March 1 st. Competition Rules & Regulations (1 of 2) 1. Each team will be allowed a maximum of 10 minutes to perform, including any introduction and exit steps. Points will be deducted for a team s performance over the time limit. a. All props must be removed from the stage at the conclusion of your performance by the step team and designated individuals. b. Teams will perform in alternating Sorority, Fraternity order drawn at random 2. All team members must be members of the Divine Nine Organizations. 3. Teams are limited to 10 members. Undergraduate and graduate mixed teams are eligible to compete in the step show. Any mixed teams must have at least 1 undergraduate member stepping or assisting. The names of step team members and up to three (3) stage assistants must be submitted with this entry. All graduate teams can step for exhibition. 4. Each team must check in between 6:00 and 7:00pm on March 20 th. Teams unable to check in at this time will need to make alternate arrangements with show organizers. All teams/performers must return to the ballroom no later than 8:30pm. 5. If a team member is found to be grossly unsportsmanlike causing a disruption to the show, the team will be disqualified. This includes any profanity, nudity, vulgar actions, humping the floor, eating pie etc. or unnecessary disrespect shown to anyone, or any organization on or off stage by any team member. 6. Only individuals listed on this registration form will be admitted into the Step Show and After-Party at no charge. 7. Anyone caught attempting to sneak persons, alcohol, drugs, or other contraband into the show will cause their team to be automatically disqualified from the competition. 8. A 7 member judging panel consisting members from the NPHC member organizations will score all performances. Each team will be judged on the attached criteria. 9. Time will begin in one of two ways, by the first physical action or the first sound. For example: a. ACTION If your introduction consists of marching, stepping, strolling, etc., toward the stage before you are actually on the stage and set your formation, then your time will begin once the first motion is made AFTER your formation is set b. SOUND If your introduction consists of singing, chanting, music being played, etc., before you are actually on the stage, your time begins once you first start to sing, chant, play music, etc. c. NOTE If you simply go to the stage and set your formation, once your formation is set, your time will begin once the first sound is heard or the first move is made.

Competition Rules & Regulations (2 of 2) 10. Teams exceeding the 10 minute time limit will have a total of 10 points deducted from each judge s score for each 30 seconds after the time limit. 11. Each team must have their music cued on 1 CD. A team representative will be responsible for instructing the sound person of cues during the performance. This individual should be noted on the registration forms. 12. Musical lyrics and team members must not use/contain profanity. Obscenities, profanities, and vulgarities will not be tolerated and will result in an automatic disqualification. 13. No use of fire, pyrotechnics, helium balloons or confetti is permitted. Oils, whip cream and other liquids may not be used during the performance, as this presents a safety hazard on stage. 14. In the event of a tie (two or more teams) the following procedure will be used to determine the winner s and/or appropriate placement of participating teams. Only teams tied will be subjected to the Tie Breaking Stages: a. Each judge will cast a ballot for one team out of those remaining tied to be selected as the winner. 15. The team receiving the highest overall score for the D9 category will be ranked first place and awarded the grand prize of $750. The team receiving the second overall score will be ranked second place and awarded the prize of $250. The team receiving the highest overall score for the Sigma category will be ranked first place and awarded the grand prize of $750. The team receiving the second overall score will be ranked second place and awarded the prize of $250. 16. The Central Region of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., or any member organizations or affiliates, will not be held responsible for the actions of contestants. 17. The decision of the judges is final. 18. All registration fees are non-refundable.

Judging Criteria Teams should remember that this is a Step Competition, not a Dance competition. Each team is evaluated on 9 different categories totaling 100 points: Penalties Exceeding the 10-minute time limit (Every thirty seconds = 10pt deduction) Intro /5 Appearance/Uniform /10 Precision/ Complexity/ Synchronization /20 Difficulty /20 Creativity/Theme /10 Vocal Clarity /10 Stage Presence/ Enthusiasm /10 Transitions/ Formations /10 Exit /5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Intro: How did the team enter the stage? Did the plainly walk on stage? Did they capture you attention? Appearance: How did the team look? Were their costumes or outfits coordinated? Did their look reflect an imaginative nature or correspond with the theme of their show? Precision/Synchronization: When the team performed did they step in a coordinated and rhythmic nature? Were the team s members crisp on their routines? Was their one sound and one beat? Difficulty: What was the degree of difficulty in the steps performed? Were the movements of a complex nature? Was the steps performed at beginners, intermediate, or advanced level? Creativity: Did the show stand out? Was there a unique theme? Did the performance have elements of surprise? Was there a WOW factor? Would you remember this show later in time? Vocal Clarity: Was the team able to perform their steps and speak in a clear and concise manner as they moved? Voice Overs Do Not Count! Enthusiasm: Did the team perform with a high level of energy, spirit, zest, zeal, and excitement? Transitions: How coordinated were the movements of the steppers in between stepping series. Were steppers late getting into new formations? Were steppers confused or lost? Did they just walk to their next formation? Exit: How did the team exit the stage? Did they plainly walk off?
