Greene County Tech School District EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT SoPHia Holland has worked for the Greene County Tech School District for the past five years. She serves as a Pre- AP History Teacher at GCT Jr. High School. Sophia has a BSE and MSE in Social Science from Arkansas State University and is registered to attend ASU again in the Spring of 2017. Sophia is married to Shannon Holland and they have sons Blake who is 21, Clayton who is 11, and Jackson who is 8. Sophia stated that she loves working at GCT. During her first and second years of teaching at GCT, she lost both of her parents. She stated, My Tech family wrapped their arms around me and never let go. I felts so blessed to be of such a loving group. Sophia s oldest son Blake is in the U.S. Army and when he was deployed overseas in the Middle East, her GCT family prayed for and asked about him every week during the ten months he was gone. Blake is in Germany now, and the Tech family still prays for and send their love to Blake all of the time. Sophia stated, It s amazing. Sophia loves spending time with family reading and traveling. She stated, We go to Navarre Beach in Pensacola every summer for a week. My parents took 6 kids there when we were growing up so now I take my kids there. I absolutely love searching the beaches and ocean for shells. I spend most of my vacation looking for seashells. When I went to Costa Rica, the customs department took my seashells, but I did get home with a bag of coconuts and some sea urchins. I love the ocean, and it s a place to go when I miss my parents. Sophia also loves to cook, and does so on the last Tuesday night of every month for the Breaking Bonds Ministry in Jonesboro, a bible study group of Jonesboro First United Church. She also loves to sit in the bleachers and watch her husband coach peewee football, basketball, and baseball for her youngest sons. The Holland family is a sports family, Roll Tide. Sophia also loves to run outside with her sister and submitted several photos because she could not select just one.
