The next meeting will be on January 17, 2012 @ 7:30 PM Please visit our web site. - www.hwrgclub.org - Inside This Issue President s Message Happy New Year and welcome to 2012! This is the year to work for change in our political arena. Learn the issues and the candidates. At the very least get out and vote when the time comes. We had a great turn out at the annual dinner; it was one of the largest I have seen. Thanks to Bob Young for organizing another successful dinner. Thanks to the Franco American Club for putting on the dinner and feeding us so well. Thank you to Ronayne Schild for organizing another silent auction; and thanks to Jim Main for running our raffle and getting us some great prizes. Many thanks to Racket Shreve for donating two beautiful original watercolor paintings for our auction, which were both scooped up by the Schilds. If you did not get to see Racket s donations, that is your loss! There are many others who helped out to make this a success, thank you to all you know who you are. As an added note: several less fortunate families lives were made just a little brighter when we brought the leftover food to them. I hope all the hunters in our club were successful in 2011 and able to stock their freezers. I am fortunate to know a great hunter who invited us over for elk and bison on New Year s Eve. What a feast we enjoyed! This is your club. Come to our meetings and get involved. There are shoots being held regularly. Come on down and shoot, try another shooting

discipline, suggest an idea for a shoot, or help out. Don t forget our work parties held the Saturday after the monthly meeting. You can work off your WIP hours as well as meet other members and the club will benefit from your labors! I hope that 2012 is good to you! Bill Terry Thought for the month: arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property Horrid mischief would ensue were (the law abiding) deprived the use of them.. Secretary s Report -Thomas Paine The December meeting was held at the French Club in Beverly on Park Street for the end of year Christmas Party. Members and guests were welcomed in at 6:30 PM with plenty of appetizers. Members were asked to cast their ballot for the positions of Treasurer, Secretary and Range Officer. A special ballot was provided for the positions of President and Vice President for one year. All positions were unopposed. Running for Treasurer, Ronayne Schild; Secretary, Paul Rullo; Range Officer, Joe Santarelli. On the special ballot, Bill Terry, President and Bob Young, Vice President. Ronayne Schild set up a silent auction at the back of the room with very special donations by members. All of the donations by members brought in a good amount of income for the club. Our club artist, Racket Shreve, made two very special donations. After everyone was seated and had time to have appetizers and mingle, the meeting was called to order with the traditional pledge of allegiance followed by a short welcome from Bill Terry. Bill Terry read the results of the election. All candidates running were voted in. They are: President: Bill Terry (1 Year), Vice President: Bob Young (1 Year), Secretary: Paul Rullo (2 Years), Treasurer: Ronayne Schild (2 Years), Range Officer: Joe Santarelli (2 Years). Following the election results, Bill Terry announced this year's winner of the President's Award. Pete Proulx and Carl Standley. Both were honored for their hard work at the range. Thank you Pete and Carl for all your hard work. Dinner was served and what a feast it was. Thanks to all who made it possible. After dinner the club raffle began. There were great items to choose from and every member went home with a gift of their choice. Thanks to Jim Main and his helper elves. Meeting adjourned around 9:30 PM. General Membership Meeting Minutes December 20, 2011 E-board members present: Bill Terry, Ronayne Schild and Mike Tolvanen. Treasurer s Report Range Officer Range Construction Officer The first work party 2012 will be held on Saturday, January 21st. Get your WIP hours in early. The club sure could use your help. Remember to renew your membership before March 15th to avoid the $10 per month late fees. Your NRA and GOAL must be current for the entire fiscal year (2012). It is the club's preference to renew for all members who do not hold "LIFE" status in NRA and/or GOAL. Please allow the club to renew for you. Newsletter Deadline : 2 nd Tuesday before the monthly membership meeting. News from the Hollow Sunday, December 18 th the Jingle Bell Shoot Dogs- This morning brought a seasonal cold breeze and temps low enough to freeze most of the trap locks, so with a butane torch in hand to open the traps it must be winter again. That said, the pack settled into the warming hut and around the blazing old coal stove (burning recently stacked wood) with steaming meatball subs (thanks to Joe C and to Kalil from afar), assorted treats, Dunkin coffee, and their familiar cigars...thanks to all who brought chow for this annual shoot. Despite numerous complaints about placement of the #3 and #4 (mostly by late arrivals) several Dogs rose on their hind legs and met the challenge in the later rounds by smacking those birds on a fairly regular basis. Thanks to Joe S, Peter, Mario, Racquet, and Michael for loading traps, setting the course, and for pushing the firing buttons amidst the cold breeze. Kudos to Rick for creating yet another challenging "Southgate menu." Next Sunday is Christmas so enjoy the morning with family and friends, but do rest up for the New Years Day shoot starting with a TBD breakfast (watch your email for details) served at the hollow before the birds start flying at 10am. Best, -Lane Please share a short write up or photo with a brief description of upcoming or past club shoots & events or your days afield to newsletter@hwrgclub.org

Sunday January 1 st the New Years Day Kielbasa Shoot The New Years Day Kielbasa Shoot was well attended. The weather was great, but the sun and fog proved to be a little difficult for visibility. Rick Southgate and Peter Proulx set up a beginner friendly course and Joe Santarelli stepped up to cook the kielbasa and sauerkraut lunch. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Kalil was unable to attend and was greatly missed. About 20 shooters tried their luck at breaking targets and enjoyed the lunch. Thanks to everyone who brought coffee, donuts and other goodies to share. Upcoming shoots in the Hollow - Mark your calendars: 1). The Third Annual Punxsutawney Phil Spam and Egg Open will be on Sunday, February 5, 2012, regardless of whether he sees his shadow or not. 2). The Dump Cup against the Miles River Marsh Rats will be Saturday March 17, 2012. We need six of our finest shooters for this event. Please watch your emails for further upcoming shotgun events.
