SOUTHERN COLORADO BARREL RACING ASSOCIATION Who are we? Our 28 th season - 2019 We, as barrel racers, felt a need for an association that can provide all of us with competition and excellence in barrel racing. So as a group, we organized the SCBRA in 1991. Our goal is to organize and raise the level of competition and improve barrel racing as a sport. As a member of SCBRA, you will earn points with us in the OPEN, SENIOR, YOUTH and NOVICE HORSE classes. As you rack up points in your own organization, money earned from the sanctioned races listed below will be accumulated dollar-for-dollar in SCBRA in accordance with our 2018 Rule Book. These earnings will be accumulated for our year-end awards to be held in early October. Please contact our President Amanda Eggleston (amlauing@gmail.com) to join our family! Check us out at SCBRA.com. SCBRA met on Sat., Oct. 6 th, 2018 for their Annual Membership Meeting. The meeting was held at Bar Diamond X Arena following the finals race with 33 entries. Amanda Eggleston, SCBRA President called the meeting to order, Brenda McMahan, Secretary read the minutes of the 2017 meeting. Mary Carson, Treasurer gave the Treasures Report. We have $1,463.40 in our checking account, $39.94 in our savings & $1,257 in cash. Expenses yet to be paid are $650 for use of the arena today, $1,000 for the Open Saddle & $750 for the NH saddle. Mary went on to say how much the change in our Rule to have Producers put on at least one money maker race or pay $15 per race has helped SCBRA. Last year before finals we had $1,585 and this year $2,735 so we were able so spend more on SCBRA Awards this year!! A Special Thank You was given to Tim & Tami Davis for stepping in and producing the Finals & Kick Off races for SCBRA!! Also Thank You to Allan Gasper for allowing us the use of this beautiful facility. Amanda reminded everyone to please clean up after yourselves and your horses. Under OLD Business, everyone was reminded to turn in their Point Cards for Sept. to Brenda today. Under NEW Business, Amanda expressed her gratitude to Pam Ferguson and Sally Ann Fosha for being her guardian angels this past year as she & her Mom, Peggy Yopp transitioned to President & Vice President! Newsletter: It has been brought up that we look at a different way of approving/ advertising races. When using the Newsletter, our Editor ends up sending countless emails each time a race is changed by a producer or we are not informed of changes. After lots of discussion and throwing ideas around, Pam Ferguson made the following motion: Once the Newsletter is sent out, it is up to the Producer to get the information out to the public. If a Producer has any additions or new races, they should let the SCBRA Editor know & she will send an email out to SCBRA members. As a member of SCBRA, it is your responsibility to reach out to the Producer for updates or questions. The motion was seconded by Tami Davis and passed unanimously. Money Maker Races: This past year was our first year to change our format from charging Producers a flat fee of $50 for the year or $10 per approved race. In 2018, Producers needed to offer at least one Money Maker Race for SCBRA or pay $15 per approved race. We need to re-emphasize to producers that the $5 they pay us from the Money Maker race is to be based on ALL Open Runs, not just per person. This being the first year, there was some confusion on this. If Producers charge people the extra $5, they should just add it to their Entry Fee, then it is not taken out of the payout jackpot, it can be put in the other category and tracked that way. SCBRA NEWSLETTER 4 October 2018

A couple of ideas were thrown around regarding rewarding members for recruiting new members or awarding the Producer who made the most money at their Money Maker race(s) for SCBRA. Charla Cook made the motion that beginning in 2019, the Producer that brings in the most money for SCBRA from their Money Maker Race(s) will be awarded in a way to be determined by the Awards Director, if funds are available. A couple of ideas were to add money to one of their races or a traveling plaque. The vote passed unanimously. Bethany Cowing suggested we ask Producers if we can leave some Membership Forms with them to display on their table at each race. We will try to do this. Finals Director Position: We have had no nominations for a new Finals Director. After a great deal of discussion, Pam Ferguson made the following motion: SCBRA will not produce a 2019 Finals Race or a 2020 Kick Off race. This will be a one-year trial and will be re-evaluated at the 2019 Annual Meeting, which will be held before the 2019 Awards Banquet. The end of our year will be Sept. 30 th. The position of Finals Director would be eliminated and the President of SCBRA will oversee making arrangements for the Awards Banquet. The motion was seconded by Mary Carson and the vote passed unanimously. Board members: The following Board Members were voted in: President Amanda Eggleston Vice President Peggy Yopp Secretary Brenda McMahan Treasurer Mary Carson Editor - Jennifer McElroy & Co-Editor Ashely Ranieri Awards Director Tanya Ketchum & Co-Awards Director Janelle Reetz Jenn reminded everyone to turn in their ballots to her today for the Horse with the Most Heart Award & the Sally Anderson Award. Amanda reminded everyone of the Awards Banquet being held tomorrow, Sun. Oct. 7 th at Latigo Trails. Please be sure Amanda has your RSVP!! If unable to attend, please let a board member know who will be picking up your awards for you. Meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted by Brenda McMahan, SCBRA Secretary SCBRA NEWSLETTER 5 October 2018

I haven t been able to run a lot of races in the last couple of years, but as most of you know, it has been eventful times to say the least. After getting hurt at the Finals in 2015 and not being able to ride for a while, I came backs slowly in 2016 and 2017. This year has been challenging schedule-wise. Some of you know my story, and some don t. I have a little Buckskin Mustang, named Danny s Midnight Magic. He was adopted by us in 1996. He is 24 years old. He has done everything I have ever asked him to do. I started Barrel Racing at 50. He humored me and let me know he was deathly afraid of strange barrels. But, He ran around them as if to say Well, okay, if this is what you want me to do, I will. He and I were and still are amateurs. Before I got hurt, I started running my other Mustang, Ghost. He did well, and I was also starting my little Quarter Horse Mare, Hannah in the Novice Horse division. Danny was put in pseudo-retirement. The rest of the story is, I got hurt and didn t ride anyone until I was physically healed. The emotional healing took a little longer. I brought Danny back late last year and some of this year. He still doesn t like strange barrels, but he still gives me everything I ask for. I love him. I depend on him and I trust him. SCBRA NEWSLETTER 10 October 2018
