CONSTANTA SCHOOL INSPECTORATE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION ROMANIA NATIONAL COLLEGE OF THE ARTS REGINA MARIA CONSTANTA THE TOGETHER FOR ART ASSOCIATION MAREA NEAGRĂ - INTERNATIONAL DANCE COMPETITION CONSTANTA 3 rd EDITION I. GENERAL PRESENTATION The festival is organized by the National College of Arts Regina Maria in the city of Constanta, Romania, the Local School Inspectorate and Together for Art Association and it will be held between 3 4 June 2017. The purpose of the festival, as an international dance competition, has the following objectives: Stimulating the competitive spirit and increasing motivation for acquiring performance Promoting the artistic experience of both the choreography teachers and of the students of the dance schools and clubs participants in the competition Developing communication and co-operation among people worldwide through the universal language of dance. All competition sections from the Marea Neagră - International Dance Competiton are open to all professional categories Dance Schools, Art Colleges, Art Academies and Theatres, studying at least 8 classic dance hours per week in their curriculum, as well as to non-professional categories Private Dance Schools, Dance Clubs and Cultural Associations. Participants can be students between 5 and 20 years of age from Romania and countries abroad. The event will take place at The Syndicate House of Culture in Constanta, Romania. 1
II. COMPETITION DISCIPLINES Classic Dance solo - professional category girls/boys ; Classic Dance solo - non- professional category; Contemporary / Modern /Lyrical Dance - solo- professional category girls/boys; Contemporary / Modern /Lyrical Dance solo non professional category; Character Dance (the same category) professional and non professional; Choreographic creation - contemporary dance / modern / lyrical dance (no age limit). A competitor may participate at the same discipline of competition or to the professional or non-professional in any case to the both sections. III. COMPETITION CATEGORIES o Solo o Duo / Trio : 2/3 dancers o Ensemble: more than 4 dancers IV. AGE CATEGORIES Professional solo - classical dance, contemporary dance/modern/lyrical dance: Group 9-10 years; Group 11-12 years; Group 15-16 years; Group 17-20 years; Non-professional solo - classical dance, contemporary dance/modern/lyrical dance: Group - 5-6 years; Group 7-9 years; 2
Group 10-12 years; Group 13-15 years; Group 16-20 years. Character dance solo: Group 5-6 years; Group 7-9 years; Group 10-12 years; Group 13-15 years; Group 16-20 years Duo/Trio, Ensemble classical dance, contemporary dance/modern/lyrical dance, character dance (same category) professional and non-professional: Group 5-6 years; Group 7-9 years; Group 10-12 years; Group 13-15 years; Group 16-20 years. Category choreographic creation - no age limit. The reference date for the age of participants is 01.01.2017 The group in which the dance is established will be determined by the average age of the dancers. We reserve the right to request documents which confirm the age of dancers on the competition day, by asking for the participants IDs or passports. V. REPERTOIRE 1. The Repertoire for the Classic Dance individual category, for both sections professional and non-professional dancer is: 3
a. One Variation (selected / composed by the teacher / choreographer) or a Classic variation. For the age category 5-6 years and 7-9 years non professional category, the dance must be performed in flexible shoes. For the age category - 9-10 years and 11-12 years, the dance must be performed in both flexible shoes and pointes. Starting with the age category 13-14 years, the dances must be performed only in pointes. b. The Repertoire for the Classic Duo / Trio / Ensemble Categories at both sections professional and non-professional, dances could be performed both in flexible shoes and pointes. 2. The Repertoire for the Contemporary / Modern / Lyrical Dance, at all categories: a. Contemporary dances - free choice (these include various modern techniques; e.g. M. Graham, H. Limon, M. Cunningham, etc.), contemporary or neoclassic techniques, jazz elements. Acrobatics and gymnastics elements must be introduced only if they are integrated and nor dominant in the dancing style. 3. Character Dance: The national folk dances must be represented in both their original and stylized forms. Costumes and music must be selected according to the specific folk traditions of each representative country. 4. Choreographic creation - are not allowed: nudity on stage, clothing and indecent gestures. Are supported works designed by two or more choreographers. Can participate in all categories of competition (solo, duo / trio and ensemble). VI. TIME LIMITS 1. Solo maximum time: 2 minutes (except for classic variations which exceed 2 minutes); 4
2. Duo / Trio maximum time : 2 minutes; 3. Ensemble maximum time: 4 minutes; 4. Choreographic creation maximum time: 10 minutes. An extra time of 5 seconds is also allowed. VII. APPLICATION / PARTICIPANTS FEES Solo 30 Euros; Duo / Trio 20 Euros / person (e.g. Duo: 20 Euros + 20 Euros = 40 Euros / Trio: 20 Euros + 20 Euros + 20 Euros = 60 Euros) Ensemble 15 Euros / person Participation fees are considered for each dancer / stage performance. One cost is charged for one performance only. The cost is paid for each dance, separately. There are distinct application forms for different disciplines as well as for the same discipline. For those competing in the Solo category, the payment will be made in competitor s name, on the dance / variation title and his/her school, and for these performing Duo/ Trio / Ensemble, the payment will be made on the dance and school titles. Any change / rectification in the application form will be communicated at least 15 days before the competition starting day. All changes transmitted to the organizers after this date, will not be taken into consideration. VIII. REGISTRATION On registering to the Marea Neagră - International Dance Competiton, all participants agree on the conditions and must strictly follow the rules set by the organizers in the Official Regulation document. Disobeying the rules will consequently happen on personal and exclusive responsibility of the participants. Participating in the dance competition implies giving up the copyright on the festival photos and recordings which will later be published in the media TV programmes, newspapers, magazines, Internet etc., by the organizers. Only after the payment of the competition fees, the competitors will be officially registered and added to the starting list. At receiving the payment documents / receipts, a confirmation of participation will be sent. The deadline of sending payment documents for registration is 15. 05. 2017. On their arrival, the competitors must have their birth certificates / IDs / passports and payment documents as required. There is no limited number of participants for the competition. It is highly recommended that schools / clubs register as soon as possible, since the organizer is entitled to decline / reject any application made at the very last moment, in case of an exceeding number of entries. The order of appearance in the competition will be posted on the official site - 6

For extra time requested to change costumes you must inform us in advance at the following e-mail address: concurscoregrafie@yahoo.com The performers / competitors will step on stage immediately after their number is announced. They must also leave the stage quickly after the performance. If participation is canceled after 15.05.2017, the participants will not receive a refund. IX. MUSIC The schools are responsible for the choosing, editing and preparation of their own audio materials. The music must be into MP3 format. Contestants will send the music via e - mail: concurscoregrafie@yahoo.com for each appareance and identification particulars : name and surname of the competitor, the heading of the variation / dance, and will be indicated when the music should start, before the contestant enters the stage or after the contestant takes his/her place on stage and then the music will start. For exemple : M (if the music starts before the contestant enters the stage) or S (if the contestant takes his/her place on stage and then the music will start) Please specify in the e-mail - name and surname of the competitor (for duo / trio and ensemble the name of the dance), category of competition, discipline and competition section. Example: Ana Popescu - solo - classical dance - 11 to 12 years - professionals. The contestants are responsible to have back-up CDs which will be handed at the technical meeting which will be announced in the program. 1 dance = 1MP3 file + 1 CD 7
Songs containing obscene words, Romanian or otherwise, are forbidden. Songs instigating to rebellion, hate, racism, discrimination, violence are strictly forbidden. X. JUDGING SYSTEM The jury is made up of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 members. In accordance with the provisions of the current regulations and the traditions of national and international artistic ballet competitions, there are no appeals for the tryouts part of the Marea Neagră - International Dance Competition. The jury s decisions are final. At the jury s request we reserve the right to introduce an additional round in the event the number of choreographies for the same category or age group. All dancers may enter with multiple solo choreographies for the same category / or for different discipline. If within the same category the contestant has multiple stage appearances only the highest scoring solo is going to be considered for the award. The same is true for duets / trios / ensembles. There is only one round for each category and age group. The choreographies which are incorrectly registered will be juried and transferred in the corresponding category will not have points deducted. Points will be deducted for: - Movement vulgarity and indecent clothing. Results will be posted on the festival s website: www.cnareginamaria.ro/concurs-dans 8
XI. AWARDS The following awards will be granted for the choreographies participating in the competition. - Diploma for the attendance to the competition for all participants; - 1 st place - diploma and trophy, 2 nd and 3 rd places and 4 th diploma ; - Special awards (diploma). - XII. GENERAL RULES Special warning for accompanying teachers and parents competitors: Contestants will dress makeup and prepare for the stage evolution only in special places. It is prohibited to do so in the auditorium. Entry is only permitted in backstage for teachers / choreographers that received bracelets from the organizers. For 10 competitors the attendant will receive 1 bracelet. Attendants competitors are required to have back-ups in the event of technical problems. A representative of the school / club / cultural association, etc. must be present behind the scenes at least five numbers before entering the contest. After evolving, the participants must leave the backstage. Teachers or instructors are not allowed to put signs to give signals dancers, correct or enter the stage during evolution dancers. It is forbidden to use any props that bring materials disservice other actors such as: confetti, oil, down, talcum powder etc. or using any fire effects are prohibited. Accessories are allowed if placed quickly taken immediately before and after completion the choreography and leaving the scene. Special stage lights are not allowed, use only white light competition. Creativity, originality, movement effects, clever use of stage dynamics are important and should 9
be seriously considered by all participants. Choreographies must be adapted to the dancers age and abilities. The school / club etc. will be disqualified for the misbehaviour of the dancers, teachers, trainers or head teachers. One dancer can represent only one school / club etc. During the competition the consumption of alcohol by any dancer automatically leads to the disqualification of the entire group he or he is a part of. The teachers, instructors, spectators may be removed from the room for any type of inappropriate behaviour. The organizers do not take the responsibility for any possible injuries to happen during the competition. This responsibility falls on each of the contestants. The organizer does not take on the obligation to cover accommodation and food expenses for the people involved in the competition. The organizer reserves the right to open and close the registration for the competition. No one except the organizer has the right to record rehearsals or performances during the competition. 10
