HOUSE NEWS & EVENTS FROM THE MANAGER Bill Colloredo General Manager "Time flies!" The older I get, the more this old adage rings true! It is hard to believe that we have rolled over to another year-2016! This marks the 55th year for Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club! My goal is to continue to grow TPYCC and make it the best club for you and your family. Let's work together to make TPYCC better than ever! Mark your calendars and make plans to be involved and enjoy all the events and activities that we have planned for you and your family. Together we can do it! There was a lot accomplished during the 10 days that your clubhouse was closed. The highlight is the painting of the walls and trim in the upstairs hallway and the entire living and dining rooms. The plaster walls were repaired and fresh coats of new paint were applied it looks wonderful! Many thanks to TP members Susan Trousdale and Lynn Coleman for choosing the colors. Be sure to include your friends in on all TPYCC has to offer. Feel free to call or email me billc@tpycc.org or Tricia Mayes triciam@tpycc.org with any membership referrals. We will follow up with an information packet and invitation to show them around and explain further the club s amenities. TPYCC is an outstanding facility with many activities to offer to you, your family, and friends. Be involved and enjoy all TPYCC has to offer!! I hope to see you at your Club soon! SUPERINTENDENT S REPORT Glen Junkin, GCS Golf Course Superintendent During January we were able to work on pruning many of the trees on the golf course. We started on hole #1 and we plan to go in order until we have covered the entire golf course. We were also able to spray round-up on all of the Bermuda grass. We do this every January to clean up anything that was missed by our fall pre-emerge. This is one of the most cost effective applications of weed control you can do throughout the year if you are managing Bermuda grass. On January 18, 2016 Scotty Stephens was hired as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, he replaces Pat Brown who left in early January. Scotty is well known throughout the shoals from his time at Cypress Lakes and Florence Country Club. Please welcome him when you see him around the course. Scotty Stephens Assistant Golf Course Superintendent On March 21, 2016 we plan to aerify the greens. Please mark this on your calendar, however, this is always dependent on weather. If for some reason we are unable to complete the task at this date we will notify everyone by email if we have your email address. As a reminder we have a Turtle Point google group that keeps you up to date about the conditions at the golf course. If you would like to be a part of this group and are not already please email me at glenj@tpycc.org and I will add you to the group.
2016 BRIDGE OFFICERS ERNIE RIVARD Commodore PHIL LYONS Past Commodore GARRY BARNES Vice Commodore LANCE BRETHERICK Rear Commodore DR. GREG BEER Fleet Surgeon JOHN MOODY Yeoman BRAD LARD Harbor Master HAROLD KIMBROUGH Fleet Captain TIM ROBERSON Port Captain FROM THE BRIDGE Ernest Rivard Commodore Greetings from the Bridge and Happy New Year! Hope everyone is enjoying our mild winter in comparison to last year and a very excellent end to our football season! Seeing the marina and lake deserted it is hard to believe that with the start of February spring is just 48 days away and the start of a new boating season. I would like to thank everyone for their support and participation last year in all our Quarterdeck events and the Bridge is working hard this year to make them even better for 2016. We closed out the 2015 boating season with our traditional Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 12th with nine boats participating. Mother Nature cooperated with a mild winter evening for a leisure cruise around the lake. Upon returning to Turtle Point everyone enjoyed the always outstanding chicken stew and homemade cookies thanks to Bill and James. I know I ate way too much! We had three winners this year, Phil and Keitha Lyons "Sea-Cure" won first place, Tim and Sherrie Roberson's "Ashlie B II" came in second, and Rob and Marg Webb's "Southern Cross" took third place. Congratulations to the winners and much thanks to all participants for their hard work. The 2016 boating season will kick off with the Commodore's Ball just around the corner on March 12th and I hope all members will make plans to attend this exceptional club event. The wine, food, and music are always outstanding as well as enjoying catching up with fellow members. One of the big changes this boating season is moving Boater's Weekend from July to May 13-15 to escape the July heat. The monthly Quarterdeck events have been updated from last year to make them even better this year. We will start with the Ragin' Cajun Catfish fry on April 30th and everyone knows the Club's catfish is the best! May 21st will feature Cheeseburgers in Paradise, June 25th will be the Fish Fry, July will change up with Ribs on the River on the 23rd, and August 13th will feature Hot August Nights with the Club's outstanding fried chicken. Please check the Club calendar to stay up to date with these great events and let's make our reservations early for the Commodore's Ball, it will be here before we know it! Thanks again for all your support to the Turtle Point boating community. 2016 OFFICERS Becky Mauldin, Club President Bill Howard, Past President Dennis Morgan, Executive Vice President Chip Rasch, Vice President of Membership David Jeffery, VP of Finance/Treasurer Scott Cross, Club Secretary BOARD Bob Cox Ben Graves Gary Hill Jeff Lawson James E.
