FEBRUARY 2019 Program Guide 316-838-3090 kpts.org tv8@kpts.org

Friday, February 1 @ 9PM Michael Mayer s production, which had its U.S. debut at the Met in fall 2018, takes place in England, where the alluring Marnie pursues a life of crime and dishonesty by assuming new identities after stealing from her employers. After pulling off another heist and adapting a new look successfully, she moves on to a new job at Halcyon Printing where her new boss is widower Mark Rutland. Marnie makes an attempt to steal from the company s safe but is caught red-handed by Mark, who blackmails her into marrying him by threatening to turn her in to the police. s Daughter Speaks Out EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH SUSAN PETERS Monday, February 4 @ 7PM From 1972 to 2004, the BTK Serial Killer Dennis Rader terrorized Wichita and the surrounding area, as he murdered strangers and eluded capture. Now, his daughter Kerri Rawson, breaks her silence and talks with Susan Peters in this exclusive local interview. Repeat Thursday 2/7 @ 8PM. Friday, February 8 @ 8:30PM African American opportunities appeared in the frontier west after the Civil War. Black cowboys permeated the land. Buffalo soldiers were recruited to take up the Indian Wars, and a Black Seminole tribe chose freedom over oppression. Saturday, February 2 @ 11PM Thrill to an hour of blues and hip-hop with Buddy Guy and August Greene. Blues legend Guy plays hits and songs from his latest album, The Blues is Alive and Well. Hip-hop supergroup August Greene performs songs from its selftitled debut. Monday, February 4 @ 10PM Meet the people who reproduce, consume and reclaim black memorabilia, racially charged objects often wrapped in the protective embrace of antiquity and historical preservation. Friday, February 8 @ 9PM In Dominique Morisseau s PIPELINE, Nya Joseph (Karen Pittman) is a dedicated, inner-city public high school teacher who is committed to her students achievement, while she sends her only son, Omari (Namir Smallwood), to a private boarding school. When Omari is involved in a controversial incident which threatens him with expulsion from his school, Nya is forced to reconcile Omari s rage, her own parental decisions, and the public and private school systems, as she rallies to save her son. Tuesday, February 5 @ 9PM FRONTLINE and The Wall Street Journal investigate the decades-long failure to stop a government doctor accused of sexually abusing Native American boys for years, and examine how the doctor moved from reservation to reservation despite warnings.

This symbol indicates pledge programs. Saturday, February 9 @ 7PM This documentary tells the story of a soft-spoken minister, puppeteer, writer and producer whose show was beamed daily into homes across America for more than 30 years. In his beloved television program, "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood," Rogers and his cast of puppets and friends spoke directly to young children about some of life's weightiest issues in a simple, direct fashion. There hadn't been anything like Mister Rogers on television before, and there hasn't been since. Tuesday, February 19 @ 8PM Examine the entertainer s vast talent and journey for identity through the shifting tides of civil rights and racial progress in 20th-century America. Davis strove to achieve the American dream in a time of shifting political territory. The documentary features excerpts from Davis electric performances. Explore the complicated history of the American South and its music through the life of country star Charley Pride. Raised in segregated Mississippi, his journey shows the ways that artistic expression can triumph over prejudice and injustice. Friday, February 22 @ 9PM Friday, February 22 @ 8:30PM Monday, February 11 Ca' d'zan, Hour 3 @ 7PM There s no clowning around when it comes to capturing showstopping appraisals at the Ringlings Sarasota mansion. Highlights include a Nakashima table, a Yankees ring and illustrated baseball, and an Elijah Pierce relief-carved plaque. Miami Beach, Hour 1 @ 8:30PM From Miami Beach, Florida, revs up for its 15th anniversary season premiere. Host Mark L. Walberg and appraiser Karen Keane scout for mid-century modern bargains at some of Miami s antiques and thrift shops. Become a member of KPTS-Channel 8 and participate in the 2019 KPTS Antiques Appraisal Fair on April 27. For more information, go to kpts.org or watch March 4, March 11, March 18 or April 15. Last month, the new Brown v. Board of Education Mural was unveiled on the third floor of the Kansas State Capitol. It is very special because it illustrates the important role Kansas played in the integration of our nation s schools. To celebrate this new mural, the Kansas African Affairs Commission worked with KPTS to create a documentary about how the mural came to be, including community advocacy, fundraising, and creation and installation of the mural. Join us for a Screening & Discussion, Saturday, Feb. 16, 3-5 p.m. The Kansas African American Museum, 501 N. Water, Wichita Friday, February 22 @ 10PM This documentary chronicles the unrecognized history of jazz in Pittsburgh, Pa. Using archival footage and photos, it also sheds light on the social conditions and historical events that conspired to make Pittsburgh one of the world's leading contributors to the legacy of jazz music.
