Commodore s Briefing I am very pleased to have the opportunity to serve as PIBYC Commodore for 2014. I am looking forward to working with VC Rick White and RC Bill Boag to make 2014 a year to remember. We are pleased that PC Jack Bergan led the way this season to update our facilities, and a visit to the club reflects an ambience for all to gather and enjoy friendships made throughout t he years during cruise outs or club events. We are pleased to advise that we have recently completed a contract agreement with our 2014 Club Manager Barbara Chrysler and look forward to working with her in 2014. I am very pleased to have the support of the Board of Trustees, Treasurer Stanley West, Recording Secretary Jennifer Kahler, Auxiliary President Connie Miller, and our many committee members to make a very successful year for all. I would appreciate any ideas or assistance you might offer to make it even better. Our VC Rick White is already putting together a committee for the July Fundraiser, and RC Bill Boag has the Winter Doldrums weekend all set. You will not want to miss this party. I look forward to seeing you in January. Included in this Jib Sheet is the tentative 2014 calendar. We would appreciate your ideas or input now as we would like to finalize the calendar during the Winter Doldrums weekend. Roger and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families Happy Holidays. We are looking forward to spending our winter in Florida and to enjoying the cruise-outs to Marathon/Key West in February, and to Naples in March. These cruise-outs which were done for the first time this year were very successful and enjoyed by all (see Fleet Captain Roger s article & please check out our website www.pibyc.org). Vivien D. Dennerll, Commodore Past Commodore Thank you to all who were able to attend the Change Of Watch program which was held September 28th, 2013 another example of the tremendous support I was blessed with over the past year! Best wishes to our newly elected Flag Officers, Trustees, Recording Secretary, Treasurer and Jib Sheet Editor. 2014 will prove to be an outstanding year for the members of PIBYC! Best Wishes for a Happy Holiday Season! John P. Bergan, Past Commodore Vice Commodore s Corner It has been a very rewarding experience serving as your Rear Commodore this past year. It could not have happened without the help I received from Commodore Jack Bergan and Lady Janet, Vice Commodore Vivien Dennerll and her husband Past Commodore Roger Dennerll, our Board of Trustees, Manager Barb Chrysler & crew, and all those members who are always there to help by volunteering their time and service. This is what makes our club such a fun place for me to belong to! This year will prove exciting under our new Commodore Vivien, our new Rear Commodore Bill Boag, and myself as Vice Commodore. Bill already has a great party planned for the Winter Doldrum Weekend in January. I look forward to seeing you there. One of my responsibilities in 2013 will be the Really Big Fundraiser, theme to be decided, which is scheduled for July 26th. I have a great committee formed with lots of great ideas that will surely provide a wonderful meal ticket, and lots of prizes and surprises? This is our chance to raise additional funds for the club to help support the many activities that make us proud to be members. I will be asking for volunteers to help sell tickets, and to help me put on this Really Big Fundraiser. I welcome any suggestions or comments or help with prizes you may have to help make this event one that is not forgotten. You may contact me at rick@catsailor.com. We also have a Phoebe Borman Mystery Theater Dinner scheduled in June as well. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season. Rick White, Vice Commodore PIBYC Club Rental Are you planning a wedding reception, reunion or other private party on Put-in-Bay? Did you get any good pictures at Club events this summer? If you are willing to share the pictures for publication in the PIBYC yearbook, bring them to the 2014 Winter Doldrums Weekend in Westlake (on CD or flash drive). If you can't make it to that event, they can be mailed or emailed to me by February 1, 2014. I prefer the original, hi-resolution, unedited files straight from your camera. Thank you, in advance, for sharing! Contact Marilyn Paselsky if you have any questions. 740-965-9942 or paselsky@insight.rr.com It is an honor for me to serve as your Rear Commodore. I am looking forward to working to make 2014 a fun and exciting year. Our first event will be the popular Winter Doldrums Party. This event will be a great way to escape the winter weather for a weekend. Come and enjoy meeting your Island friends. This event has been well attended in the past and you will not want to miss the 2014 gathering. We will be working hard to make this weekend an enjoyable one. The Holiday Inn has a great pool and game room for the kids, and I promise we'll have something for the adult members as well. The hotel and restaurant are just a few miles apart. Crocker Park is within minutes and offers shopping, restaurants and movie theaters. I can be reached by e-mail at boagy99@hotmail.com. Looking forward to a great 2014 season! Auxiliary News Bill Boag, Rear Commodore I would like to start with a round of applause to Past President Susan Hildebrandt for a great 2013. I was also honored to serve along with Treasurer Barb Cooper, Secretary Gina Trebilcock, and Joan Kempf PIBCSS liaison. I had a lot of fun working with them and meeting so many auxiliary members this past summer. Susan certainly put together a great year and I hope that I can do so as well. I am thrilled to have Kyrie Lee as Vice President, Dianne Smith as Secretary, Deborah Palmer as Treasurer as well as Nora French for PIBCSS. The 2014 calendar is being developed but we need your help. Silver Sails will be repeating the fashion show and Jill Cooks is putting together a second luncheon committee. We are planning to repeat the evening happy hour parties but need more committee members to contribute an appetizer. We also have a luncheon without a theme or a team so we are looking for both. Chef Woody can help with the menu or we can take the luncheon on the road. Have an idea? Want to volunteer? Send me an email at Constance.Miller@sbcglobal.net We are going to continue to offer a babysitter for the events, but there are a few items we would like to change. We plan to add food for the kids for the luncheons. We did pizza one night this summer and it was a great hit with both the kids and the moms. There were problems with a space for the kids so we are going to use the collapsible tents to provide cover over the picnic tables by the swings. This will establish a clear separate area for them during events. Finally, we are going to ask for toy donations and other things to restock the toy chest this next spring. Have suggestions? Let me know. We plan to set the calendar at the Winter Doldrums Party in January. Please let me know by then if you are able to help. Happy thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and see you in 2014!
