Announcements for Tuesday, October 2, 2018 National Custodial Worker Day

On This Day in History 1870 Rome was made the capital of Italy. 1920 The Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates played the only triple-header in baseball history. The Reds won two of the three games. 1950 The Peanuts comic strip was published for the first time. 1959 The Twilight Zone debuted on television. 1967 Thurgood Marshall was sworn in as the first African-American member of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Crayola ColorCycle Grissom Patriots are collecting used markers and highlighters (any brand) to be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! Green collection boxes will be in each classroom and on the bench outside the Commons. The program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year. Remember, don t throw out that used marker ColorCycle it!

6 th /7 th Grade Girls Basketball Permission forms are available in the rack outside the Main Office for 6 th /7 th grade girls basketball. Tryouts will be held from 3:15-4:45 on Tuesday, Oct. 9 th and from 7:15-8:30 am on Wednesday, Oct. 10 th.

Jazz Band Jazz Band rehearses at Prairie View each Wednesday from 4:00 to 5:15 pm.

Box Tops for Education The PE department is collecting Box Tops for Education. Please turn them in to your PE/Health teacher.

Congratulations!! Congratulations to Isabella Podewell (chorus) and Abby Cunico (band) who auditioned for the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) and were selected to participate in the district festival on November 3 rd. Over 1,000 students auditioned last Saturday at Summit Hill Junior High School. Congratulations to these outstanding musicians!

Board Game Club Game on! If you like playing board games, this club is for you! You will have the opportunity to try out new games as well as play some old favorites. Permission forms are in the rack outside the Main Office and are due to Ms. Duncan by Wednesday, Oct. 10 th. The first 35 students to sign up will be notified that they are a member. All others will be placed on a waiting list.

Girls Softball Congratulations to the Lady Patriots on clinching the cochampionship! They defeated Century yesterday to end the season with a 10-1 record. Good luck in the playoffs!

Student Council Student Council will meet today after school in Room 111.

Boys Softball Ryan Bressanelli, Joe Burke and Jack Minetti led the way in a 5-1 victory over Century yesterday! The win earns the Patriots the regular season SWIC Championship with a 10-1 record overall. Great job!!

Chorus There is no practice Thursday this week!

Chorus The Grissom Chorus will perform with the Andrew High School choirs at Andrew on Thursday, Oct. 4 th at 7 pm. Come out for a great night of entertainment!

Newspaper Club The first meeting of Newspaper Club will be Wednesday, Oct. 10 th. We will meet in Room 222 until 4:05 pm.

Intramurals Intramural sports are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:45-8:30. Volleyball intramurals are held on Tuesday, and Basketball intramurals are held on Thursday.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Grissom is once again collecting pop tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! The pop tabs are recycled and sold for scrap metal. Last year, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raised more than $40,000 from this program. There is a collection box on the bench outside the Commons for your donations.

Hot Lunch Tomorrow is Hot Lunch! Please remember to thank the parents serving you. Without them, there would be no Hot Lunch program!

Cross Country Good luck at the Conference meet today at Orland Junior High! Run fast!

Art Club Art Club meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday after school until 4:05 pm.

6 th /7 th Boys Volleyball Tryouts Tryouts for 6 th /7 th grade boys volleyball will be from 7:30-8:30 am on Friday, Oct. 5 th and Tuesday, Oct. 9 th. Permission forms are available in the rack outside the Main Office. They must be turned in to Coach Chicvara TODAY!

Student Support Student Support is held in the Media Center before school every day from 8:00 8:35 and after school Monday through Thursday from 3:10-4:05. Please be sure to bring your work with you! You will need to sign in and stay the entire time. If you are a bus rider, please remember to sign up for the activity bus that day!

Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge Last year Grissom Patriots saved 10,263 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills by using the water bottle filling stations throughout the building. So far this year, we have saved 2,024 bottles! Please remember to use these instead of plastic bottles!
