CRIMSON'S ROCKET Regarding the gelding leading today, rider explained that he was issued with no specific instructions, however at previous starts he had intended to take up a forward position but was unable to achieve this, whereas today the gelding had commenced well from its wide barrier and with the step up in distance he decided to cross inside runners and assume the lead. His comments were confirmed with Trainer Ms K. Parsons. General: Jockeys J. Azzopardi (JACKPOT PRINCE) and D. Staeck (TAXAGANO) were interviewed in relation to JACKPOT PRINCE blundering from the heels of TAXAGANO 100m after the start. It was established that TAXAGANO lay outwards marginally when Jockey Azzopardi had steadied his mount in an attempt to gain a position behind that gelding resulting in his mount contacting the heels of TAXAGANO and blundering. After considering all factors Jockey Azzopardi was cautioned and advised to make a greater effort to prevent his mounts from contacting the heels of other runners in similar circumstances. When over-raced was steadied from heels near the 800m. General: Stewards questioned Jockey R. Hill (POLITICS) with regard to STOCKS (F. Kersley) gaining a run to the inside of POLITICS on straightening. Jockey Hill tendered the explanation that POLITICS had led the race which was contrary to its normal tactics of being in the mid-field to mid-rear position and had raced greenly when leading and on straightening had been leading on the off fore leg resulting in POLITICS shifting off the rail, which then allowed STOCKS to improve to his inside as a result of the gelding not racing truly.
