Congrats to both of these members! All who participated had fun, too. Our next event is Circle of Friends on October 3 rd. Please invite a friend to join in the fun. Hopefully, the weather will hold out! On October 25, we will have our closing luncheon which includes the voting/installation of new Board Members. You will be receiving information on that from our Nominating Committee soon. So hard to believe that this season is coming to a close! We survived cool weather, rain and smoke. Look for the sign up for the Closing Luncheon event on our bulletin board at the Ridge Pro Shop. Due to Kathi Carmichael moving from Eagle Crest at the end of September, Linda Kelly has agreed to fill-in for the Handicap chair position thru the end of October. I want to thank Diane Concannon for yet another year of publishing our Newsletters kudos to Diane. Also there are many other people (too numerous to mention) who helped to make this golf season a success. Thanks to all... Only 4 more golf dates in October so get out there and have some fun! Day s Play This is it we re on the downhill run for our 2017 golf season, and I have two very important things to say on behalf of the Day s Play team: THANK YOU to all the volunteers who assisted with Day s Play check-in. We can t tell you what a huge help you were! THANK YOU to all of you for your fabulous participation and cooperation this year. It s been great fun! And, to polish off the year we have: Oct. 3 Circle of Friends Challenge Course 10 a.m. shotgun, fun scramble format! Oct. 10 Resort Course 10 a.m. shotgun If Only Oct. 17 Ridge Course 10 a.m. shotgun Blind Holes Oct. 24 Challenge Course, Red Tees Tee times start at 10 a.m. Jokers Wild Oct. 25 (Wednesday) 12 Noon CLOSING LUNCHEON AT NIBLICK S A couple of reminders: Oct. 17 will be the last time this season we play the Ridge, this year s Eclectic course. Don t miss your last chance to improve your Eclectic score! Almost everyone has already met her five-play eligibility, but if you haven t, there is still time. Only the Day s Play scores on the Ridge Course count toward Eclectic this year, but every Day s Play counts toward your eligibility. And remember, the fiveplay eligibility also applies to awards for birdies, holes-in-one, and most improved player, and those awards are presented at the Closing Luncheon. Weather advisories (hopefully, we won t need these): Frost: Official information on frost delays will come via email from the Day s Play group, NOT the pro shop. Do not call the pro shop frost line, because it may not have the latest information posted. Inclement Weather Policy: If the weather takes a turn for the worse once our game gets underway, the following policy will apply: 1) Only the players who complete the full 18 holes will be eligible for the payout; AND 2) At least 50% of the field must complete the entire course in order for it to be considered a valid day s play. If less than 50% of the field completes the full course, the game will not count and a refund (cash or credit on next game) will be given. We actually had to use this policy recently! Thanks again, and let s hope we have better golfing weather this winter than we did last winter! 2017 ECWGG Solheim Wine and Whine Team USA won the 2017 Solheim Cup for the second year running as they defeated Team Europe 16 ½ -11 ½. The last day match between USA Lexie Thompson & Europe Anna Nordqvist was one of the best matches the Solheim Cup has ever seen with the matched being halved on hole #18! Our own 2017 Solheim Wine & Whine proved to be another fun & exciting event with the White Pinot Gris taking the victory over the Red Pinot Noir 24-22. This makes two in a row for the Pinot Gris! We had 48 members golfing & 50 members for lunch. A big thanks to you all for supporting this event.........................!4
RULES Judy Soeten To date - the Oregon Golf Association has not set the date for the Central Oregon Rules Seminar. When this date is released, I will forward to our membership. An understanding of the Definitions on the Rules of Golf, will generally help in finding the Rule you may be in need of referencing. PLAY THE BALL AS IT LIES, THE COURSE AS YOU FIND IT AND IF YOU CANNOT DO EITHER DO WHAT IS FAIR. BUT TO DO WHAT IS FAIR, YOU NEED TO KNOW RULES OF GOLF.........................!5
SENIOR WOMEN S GOLF By Lael Cooksley Senior women played their last event at Awbrey Glen on September 18. It was a chilly morning and the rain caught up with us on the last two holes, but we had a great time the hot soup was just the ticket to warm us up. Jeanne Kosanovic, Lael Cooksley and Sandy Middlebrook earned gift shop certificates for their excellent play! Senior Women please remember to use your earned certificates by November 15, 2017 you worked hard for these and we don t want them to go to waste!........................!6
TEAM PLAY ODE TO THE TEAM OF 2017 The Season began We were all in our places New shirts had been chosen With plenty of care We looked Both dapper and fair As we swung with pure grace This was our year A challenge to face Match one was Sunriver Not quite a win Still plenty of time For those points to come in. So down the road to Awbrey we went Warm clothing was packed The messages sent But to our delight The sun was bright Our season went on Kat and Candy went first Then the Diannes As Captain Judy was hurt With Mona and Bobbie From your Captains Judy and Kat Mary - Ginger and Dawn Still on the Team Perhaps next year Their play will be seen So on did we play Some rules we were TOLD Oh my goodness Those women were bold A sadness arrived A mate we did lose And yes we cried But heaven did choose Our team was together The weather not cold We went to each match feeling strong And yes - bold So the season has passed And fun we did have Next year down the road Our rookie Miss Gail A story untold Not to forget Kathi Always ready to play Our wish - Naturally Jeanne You know you re important to us A sign up away. As golfers, lady friends and such Alice with new clubs And so with a gleam A pass she did take The privilege was ours Sandy with appointments To Captain this TEAM She had to make by Judy Soeten........................!7
