DIARY, RALLY & TRAINING DATES Date of issue: 11 th March 2019 BOOKING IN & PAYMENT Please book in and pay for rallies/training online via our website. When possible and dependant on numbers, your child will be placed in a group with others of similar riding ability. Unless stated otherwise all rallies/training sessions are 1 hour It is very important that all children are booked in for rallies/training at least SEVEN DAYS in advance. If there are insufficient numbers 7 days before the rally/training it will probably be cancelled. No refunds will be given for a late cancellation (ie less than 7 days before the rally/training) or if you just don t turn up on the day. TIMES Times will normally be on the website two days prior to the event, if they are not please contact the relevant manager. SAFETY MESSAGES STIRRUPS - Parents please check the width of your child s stirrups. There must be a quarter of an inch (approx. a finger s width) either side of your child s foot when the ball of the foot rests in the stirrup. Don t forget that as your child s feet get larger and they need new boots they will often need to go up a size in stirrups too! Please also ensure that the stirrup bar (underneath the saddle skirt) is never pushed up. Any child s stirrups that do not fit as above will not be able to ride at the rally/training. Please ensure you dress safely for all PC events, this includes rallies and training. HOODIES are strictly NOT allowed for safety reasons. Your instructor should ask you to remove your hoody or leave the rally/training if you are wearing one. For further guidance please view the What to Wear page of the website. LEAD REIN - anyone on the lead rein must be led by someone who is at least 14yrs old HILL HOUSE FARM ONE WAY SYSTEM please note, in order to reduce the chances of an accident and to try and ensure the flow of traffic there is an unofficial one-way system in operation when arriving and leaving Hill House Farm. Please arrive via the turning opposite the tanker yard on the outskirts of the village and when leaving Hill House Farm turn left and then turn right which will bring you onto the main Frome to Radstock Road. They will be held at Manor Farm, Alhampton, Shepton Mallet BA4 6PZ and start at 11:30 but please arrive for 11:00. There is plenty of parking. Rallies will include: tack check and advice on tack required to race; racing position; and the starting procedure. All of this will take place in an enclosed school. After this, a short hack along quiet lanes and across fields to the canter track and gallops. Here riders will be escorted around the canter track at trot and then canter on both reins. This will be followed by a 4 furlong gallop, again escorted. We are very fortunate that Paul Nicholls is allowing us to use his gallops for the rallies. The rallies will be taken by Will Biddick, one of The West Country s top point to point riders.

No previous Pony Racing experience is needed. Cost of the rallies will be 10. Places will be limited to twelve riders. Please book in with Geoff by email or phone and send a cheque or pay cash to: G. You can visit the Area 14 website http://branches.pcuk.org/area14/ or contact the Area 14 representative, Louly Thornycroft, for more details on 01258 860614 or area14@pcuk.org 15 th to 17 th July 2019 B Test Camp at Bovington PC SUMMER AREA/REGIONAL/NATIONAL COMPETITIONS There are 345 pony clubs in the UK from 19 different Areas that are eligible to send individuals and teams to compete in the Area competitions held every spring/summer in order to try and qualify for National Championships, which are the pinnacle of the Pony Club competition season. Wylye Valley PC is in Area 14 which is made up of 20 different pony clubs. Every summer each Pony Club Area holds Area Competitions in various disciplines including dressage, show jumping, eventing, tetrathlon and mounted games. These are run by different Pony Club branches at different venues within our Area each year. There are different levels of ability available to compete in and these vary with each discipline. Full information on each level is specified in the PC rulebooks for each discipline. These are accessible from our website. PC SUMMER AREA/NATIONAL COMPETITION INFORMATION 2019 Please note, the teams and individuals for all Area competitions are selected by our various instructors, team managers and the D.C. You cannot enter any level of Area competition yourself, you have to be selected and the entries are done by the branch. Details of the selection process are usually made available in the Spring before the Area competitions. DRESSAGE AREA DRESSAGE All Levels In 2019 the Area competition for Open, Intermediate, Novice and former grassroots Regional Championship qualifier will be hosted by SWWPC and held on 23 rd June 2019 at Motcombe Showground. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP DRESSAGE Novice, Intermediate & Open Levels The teams and individuals that qualify at Novice, Intermediate and Open levels go on to compete at the PC National Championships. In 2019 these will be held at Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire from 16 th to 20 th August. Championship Dressage Tests for 2019 will be as follows: Novice The Pony Club Novice Dressage Championship Test 2017 Intermediate The Pony Club Intermediate Dressage Championship Test 2014 Open The Pony Club Open Dressage Championship Test 2018 REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP DRESSAGE formerly known as Grassroots level The teams and individuals that qualify at the former grassroots area level go on to the Regional Championships, which in 2019 will be held at Bicton Arena, Devon from TBC. Please note, there is no national championship for this level. The dressage test for the Regional Championships in 2019 will be the PC Grass Roots Dressage Test 2018. SHOW JUMPING AREA SJ - Novice, Intermediate & Open Levels The Area competition for Novice, Intermediate and Open will be held on 28 th July at Mendip Plains hosted by Mendip Farmers PC. Novice max. fence heights 95cms Open Novice max fence heights 95cm Intermediate max. fence heights 1.05m Open max fence heights 1.15m NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SJ Novice, Intermediate and Open Levels The teams and individuals that qualify at Novice, Intermediate and Open levels go on to compete at the PC National Championships. These will be held at Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire from 16 th to 20th August 2019. Novice max. fence heights 1m Intermediate max. fence heights 1.10m Open max fence heights 1.20m AREA SJ Former Grassroots Level REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER The Regional Championships qualifier will be held on 14 th July 2019 at Leyland Court and hosted by Syston PC. The maximum fence height will be 80cm apart from two fences at 85cm in the second round.

The Regional Championship Dressage test in 2019 is the PC Grassroots Dressage Test 2018 TETRATHLON AREA & REGIONAL TETRATHLONS The Junior Regional tetrathlon will be held on TBC 2019 at TBC. The Area competition will be hosted by the NF PC and held on 30 th June in the New Forest and the riding phase on 7 th July 2019 at Leyland Court. The Regional 100 tetrathlon (formerly known as Open/Senior) will be held at on 3 rd - 4 th August 2019 in Scotland. NATIONAL TETRATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS Teams and individuals in tetrathlon that qualify at the Area competitions go on to the PC National Tetrathlon Championships which will be held at Offchurch Bury from 9 th to 11 th August 2019. MOUNTED GAMES MOUNTED GAMES AREA Junior and Senior The Area competition will be held on 13 th April 2019 at Hurn and hosted by Hursley PC. MOUNTED GAMES SOUTHERN ZONE In mounted games, the Junior and Senior teams that qualify at the Area competitions go on to Zone level competitions. Area 14 competes in the Southern Zone with Areas 10, 15, 16 and 18. The Southern Zone competition will be hosted by WVPC and held at Southfield House on 7 th July in 2019. MOUNTED GAMES NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS/PRINCE PHILIP CUP AT HOYS The winning team from each Zone will qualify for the Horse of The Year Show (HOYS). 2nd to 7th places will compete for the final two HOYS places at the Pony Club Championships. The next three places at each Zone that have not qualified will be invited to compete in an Intermediate Competition at the Pony Club Championships. The PC National Championships will be held at Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire from 16 th to 20 th August 2019. POLO For information on how to try and qualify for the Polo Championships please contact Miles Toulson- Clarke or the Polo Manager. In 2019 the Jorrocks Championships will be held at TBC for the youngest section of Pony Club Polo. All other sections potentially qualify for the National Championships at Cowdray Park on 9 th to 11 th August 2019.

ENDURANCE For information on how to try and qualify for the Endurance Championships please contact Emma Miller at emmamiller@emaccounts.com. The Championships in 2019 will be held on 14 th July. ELIGIBILITY Please note to compete at AREA level in 2019 both the rider and the pony/horse must have attended a minimum of three rallies since 1 st July 2018, at least one of which must be as a combination in 2019. Riders must have been members of the Pony Club since at least 28 th February 2019 except for members who are completely new to the Pony Club who may join up to the 31 st March and still be eligible for Area competitions. Please note, training sessions do not count as rallies. Camp counts as one rally. For all other eligibility criteria please ensure you check, very carefully, the PC Rule books. These are accessible via our website PC Rules page. The rules do sometimes change from year to year so don t assume they will be the same as a previous year! If you wish to be considered for Area competitions please ensure you are available and eligible on the relevant Area 14 competition dates AND willing and available to attend the Championships (where applicable) if you or your team qualifies. Please note also that Championship heights/widths etc may be slightly higher/wider than at Area level. Anyone wishing to compete in Area Teams, please contact the appropriate Team Manager by TBC 2019 using the contact details above. Details of the selection process/policy for 2019 will be available from Miles Toulson-Clarke or the website in Spring 2019. GREEN SHOOTS COMPETITION Green Shoots is a team competition held at Area level. This is an excellent introduction to friendly competition and is aimed exclusively at those children with a basic level of riding who have not competed at Area level in any discipline before. Teams are made up of three riders, one aged 14 and under who should be of D+ or C Test standard, one 12 and under who should be of D + or D test standard and one 10 and under who should be of D test standard. Ages as of 1st January in the current year. It is a team competition and there are four sections as follows: Individual equitation (this is a basic show/dressage test on your own) Team equitation (this is a choreographed fun ride in your team of three) Handy Pony/ Obstacle Course (negotiating a fun course of obstacles, may include a small jump) Turnout Competition The Area 14 Green Shoots competition for 2019 will be held on 19 th May at Middle Wyke House SP11 6AJ and hosted by the RA PC. It will be held in conjunction with the RA PC Junior Show.

PC DENGIE WINTER LEAGUE SERIES In addition to the aforementioned summer competitions there is a PC Winter League, sponsored by Dengie, in dressage at NC, Intermediate and Open levels and in SJ at two levels which roughly reflect NC and Open heights. Preliminary Rounds are held all over the country, to enable competitors to qualify for their winter Area Competition. Anyone can enter the preliminary rounds to qualify for the winter Area and there is no selection process. If, and wherever, they qualify for the winter Area then members of Wylye Valley PC can only compete in the Area 14 winter Area competition (and not other Areas). In 2019 the Winter Area competitions for Area 14 in both dressage and SJ will be held at WWEC. Area dressage will be on 16th March 2019 and Area SJ will be on 17th March 2019. Those who are successful at the winter Area Competitions will go forward to the national winter Championships. The 2019 Championships will take place at Addington on13th -14 th April. WINTER TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS In the winter instead of tetrathlon there are triathlon competitions (which have no riding phase). In 2019 the Winter Triathlon Championships will be held at Milton Keynes on 31 st March.
