News to You www.psepto.org January 2014 ~ President s Corner ~ I hope everybody had a wonderful winter break! We spent our holiday in Kansas playing board games with family and friends, eating too much yummy food, and laughing way too loudly! This year s hit game for the family was Telestrations. -- If you remember the telephone game you played as kids, it s like that, except you draw pictures to tell the story (or you try to). There s never enough time for me to finish drawing! It s a fun and hilarious game -- I highly recommend it! While we re talking about fun games, our sixth annual Trivia Night is right around the corner and our theme for this year is 40th Birthday Celebration in honor of Progress South s 40th Birthday! If you ve never been to this event, we always have a great time and it s one of the few adults-only events on the PSE PTO calendar. This year, we ll be hosting the celebration at a new location: The Professional Fire Fighters of Missouri Banquet Center in Saint Peters. You can find it off Mid Rivers Mall Drive just behind the shopping center that has the Toys R Us and Bed Bath & Beyond stores. I hope to see you there! And don t forget, Book Fair is also coming up very soon. This years theme is Book Fair Fiesta! ~ I Want Books! Let s Go Read! and, to give everybody more opportunities to join the party, we ve added an extra day of sales after school on Monday, January 27th! Since it looks like everybody could be spending a lot of time indoors from the snow and cold weather this winter, the Book Fair is a great chance to get something to keep your little bookworm busy! Welcome back and stay warm! *** THANK YOU!!! *** With the sale of the December Moon Spirit Sticks, PSE raised $1,470 for families in need. Thank you!! Trivia Night January 18 Come join us for a fun night of Trivia! Several people have signed up, but we still need you! We are still taking reservations for tables and for those who want to play. If you don t have a team to enjoy Trivia Night with, see page 2 for an entry form. We ll find some great tablemates for you. For additional questions, contact: Marcia Stiff: 636-294-0934 marcia@thestiffs.net Lynn Schorfheide: 636-379-4974 lynn.schorf@gmail.com Dates to Remember: Papa John s Day Jan 15 Box Tops Pickup Jan 16 Trivia Night Jan 18 7:00 PM Book Fair (after school) Jan 23 3:30-6:15 PM Book Fair (after school) Jan 24 3:30-6:15 PM Book Fair (after school) Jan 27 3:30-6:15 PM Book Fair Jan 28 3:30-8:00 PM Market Day Pickup Feb 4 6:30 PM Family Trivia Feb 11 7:00 PM Basketball Shootout Mar 4 7:00 PM Spring Scrapbook Day Mar 22 9:00 AM

Congratulations to the Following Classrooms They are the winners of the traveling trophy for the month of December. These classes collected the most Box Tops for their grade level! This following page contains the total Box Tops collected at PSE so far. Way to go PSE! A special thank you to those that took the time to TRIM their Box Tops (around the dotted line) before they sent them to school. Please take note that if the date is cut off we must throw them away. Keep working for that pizza party! Don t forget to shop online through the Box Tops website and earn extra cash for PSE. Upcoming Collection Date: January 16th

Mark your calendar for our annual Scholastic Book Fair on the following dates: January 23 rd 3:30 6:15 p.m. Library January 24 th 3:30 6:15 p.m. Library January 27 th 3:30 6:15 p.m. Library January 28 th 3:30 8:00 p.m. Cafeteria/Large Gym This year s theme is Book Fair Fiesta! ~ I Want Books! Let s Go Read! and there are so many fun titles available. We hope to make this year s fair fun and exciting for everyone. Please join us to support Progress South, put new books into the every classroom, and find something new to read. Last year s fair raised over $5,000 in books purchased for our classrooms and library. We re going to be open for four (4) days (something new!) this year and will still have multiple registers open to help you check out faster. Look for more information coming home in January. We look forward to seeing you at this fun family event! If you have any questions, please contact Peggy Woodward at 314-707-6424 or Amanda Gillham at 314-920-9196. Are you ready for some BASKETBALL? Please join us for the annual Progress South Basketball Shootout. Date: March 14, 2014 Time: Shootout starts at 7:00 PM sharp. Doors will open at 6:45 PM. Early arrivals will not be admitted. Place: Kindergarten thru 2nd - multipurpose room (small gym) 3rd thru 5th - large gym Prizes given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for each grade level. No experience necessary come and join the fun! ** Please do not bring your own basketball **

Looking for a free, fun, family game night? Then look no further! We ll host our second Family Trivia night on Tuesday, February 11th at 7:00 PM in the PSE Gym. Ditch the electronics and challenge yourself and your children with age-appropriate trivia questions in non-competitive setting. Sure to be a great time! Keep an eye out for a flyer to come home in early February as a reminder. Thank You! Thank you to all the PSE families who joined us for our December Pancakes with Santa. We had 357 people join us for all you can eat pancakes!
