-Talking oint " LINES" Well, here we go again, the start of a brand new season of Inter-County darts. On behalf of everyone associated with London I would like to convey a warm welcome to the Surrey players, officials and supporters who are our guests for the weekend. This is a tough curtain raiser to the new season, and we have every respect for the talents of the Surrey players. However, that is not to say we enter the matches with any kind of inferiority complex, far from it. We are delighted to welcome back to the London family Dave Lee, Mick Manning and Robbie Beaton plus, making their London debuts, Andy Fordham from Kent and Lynn Ormond from Lincolnshire. Mick, in particular, is showing good early season form having qualified as one of the two London World Masters champions in which he hit a 10 dart 501. Also qualifying was Nicky Turner which created some kind of unique double as the Mick 'n' Nick combination also qualified last season. You will not fail to notice the brand new shirts London are sporting this year. Supporters of American football will immediately recognise the colours as those of the Los Angeles Raiders one of the toughest, most competitive teams in the N.F.L. We hope that the colours inspire the London players in the same way. A big vote of thanks goes to Frances Carroll who designed and made the shirts. There have been many changes during the close season affecting the Super Leagues and the county set-up, not least the introduction of a 1000 first prize for the eventual Men's Super League champions which will now be played on a regional basis (an idea incidentally that I borrowed from Surrey!!). Also two 'new' team managers have been installed for the new campaign. Lew the Shoe' Shannon comes back as men's county team manager. Lew, a man of few words most of which are unprintable, has the best record of any county team manager. Betty Barnes takes responsibility for the ladies teams and her commitment and enthusiasm will no doubt keep our ladies at the forefront as they attempt to retain the title they won in such style last season. Regular county match attendees will also notice a significant change in the playing format with the Men's 'B' Team players now enjoying the luxury of the best of 5 leg matches. It promises to be an eventful season I hope it is also an enjoyable one. HIL JONES General Secretary Greater London Darts Organisation
