On the 2nd day of October, the UTSA Police Department hosted its 9th National Night Out. Once again, there was a great turnout for this year s event. The police department welcomed roadrunners to resources, food, fun and more! Councilman Manny Pelaez s opening remarks inspired and performances by DJ Gumby and DJ Sal kept the daylong event thriving. National Night Out is intended to build relationships with police departments and the communities they protect to decrease crime by working together. Special thanks to local vendors and the people who made this event possible. 2

Crime Prevention Month October is the National Crime Prevention Month. The National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) brings awareness to crime prevention and safety tactics for individuals. Week 1: Identity Theft Identity theft can happen to anyone. It s important to use unique passwords that differ on separate accounts. To report identity theft visit: https://www.identitytheft.gov/ Week 2: Safe Firearms Storage If you own a firearm, be sure to store it out of reach from children & others. Firearm safety is a priority and it is important that owners prevent them from getting into the wrong hands (visit: https://www.safefirearmsstorage.org/). Week 3: Living Safer, Being Smarter Young adults are more susceptible to being victims of crimes related to robbery. The NCPC have created a curriculum to help young adults avoid these crimes (visit: http:// archive.ncpc.org/programs/living-safer-being-smarter/resources/ NCPC-Smarter-College-Curriculum.pdf).
