The starting line width can accommodate up to 3 teams and the starting stretch extends 0-meters before the first turn. Course Maps See appendix labeled Course Maps. Course Inspection Course inspection is available on Friday, November 11 beginning at 8:00am. Teams should exit the course at sunset. The course is only open for course inspection on Thursday by appointment (Contact Greg Hipp).

Declarations Coaches must declare during packet pickup up all of the student-athletes submitted on their original entry form (maximum of 1). The runners declared for the national championships meets may be different than those that competed at the regional meet, but all must have appeared on the original entry form submitted by the November 3 deadline. If an institution declares more than seven studentathletes (i.e. takes an eighth or ninth, etc. set of chips and bibs), those chips and bibs must be returned to meet management no later than 30 minutes prior to the start of the race to the clerk at the start line. Dining See appendix labeled Dining Directions See appendix labeled Directions. Please follow directions into campus as there are different routes for teams and spectators. Drug Testing NCAA championships committees, following a recommendation from the NCAA drug-testing subcommittee, have discontinued the practice of announcing whether drug testing will be conducted at NCAA championship events. Although knowing prior to competition whether NCAA drug testing was to occur had value for reasons of convenience, it left open the possibility that student-athletes might be tempted to use banned substances if they knew that NCAA testing was not being conducted at the site of competition. Therefore, all coaches and student-athletes should presume that NCAA drug testing will occur at this championship event. Please inform your student-athletes that in the event they are notified of their selection for drug testing, the student-athlete must inform an official representative of your institution (e.g., coach, athletic trainer) before proceeding to the drug-testing site. Student-athletes will be reminded by the courier to contact their team representative. Entry Forms Coaches will be allowed to submit a maximum of 1 student-athletes on the entry form. Only the 1 student-athletes listed on the entry form may compete in the regional and/or national championships meets. Coaches will not be able to change the 1 studentathletes on the entry form should the team qualify for the national championship meet. Coaches must submit the forms ONLINE by p.m. Central time, Thursday, November 3. Institutions submitting late entries are subject to a fine. Each institution should print a copy of its entry forms to hand carry to the regional and national sites. Links to online entry can be found through the event website at NIUHuskies.com, the NCAA website and at Directathletics.com. Hospitality Hospitality will be available at the operations tent near the finish line. This area will be restricted to the following credentialed personnel: Coaches, Support Staff, Officials, Administrators and Volunteers. On Saturday, November 12, the hours will be from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A separate hospitality area will be available for media at the media workroom. Important Dates See appendix labeled Important Dates. Inclement Weather Following NCAA protocol, event management will be using the WeatherSentry online lightning detection and weather monitoring system. In the event of severe weather or once lightning enters a 30-mile radius of competition, preparations to protect the studentathletes and spectators will begin. Once lightning enters an eight-mile radius of the event site, competition must stop and all participants and staff will be directed to safe areas. Coaches, student-athletes, administrators, medical staff, volunteers and event staff will be directed to Anderson Hall adjacent to the course. Spectators, media and officials should return to their vehicles or should enter Barsema Hall adjacent to the course. Activity will not resume until 30 minutes has passed since the last lightning strike. Locker Rooms Locker rooms are available on site at Anderson Hall on a first come first serve basis. Teams should provide their own towels. Media A media workroom will be provided in Barsema Hall adjacent to the course. Internet access, power and hospitality will be available. No phone access will be provided. School affiliated media contacts do not have to request media credentials in advance. School affiliated media contacts should have their school s coach pick up their credentials at the coaches meeting. School affiliated media should park with their teams. Non-school affiliated media should reference the media information guide on the event web site at www.niuhuskies.com. Results will be online through the NCAA and NIUHuskes.com websites. Copies of results will be provided to all credentialed media upon request within the media workroom. Quotes from top teams coaches and top finishing individuals will be available for use by SID s and media at the media workroom. An interview area will be located near the media workroom.

Visiting teams may utilize the NIU athletic training facilities by appointment. Please notify NIU Athletic Training Services of any special considerations needed prior to arrival. Merchandise NCAA merchandise will be on sale on event day. National Championships Important procedures and deadlines for the national championship are online at NCAA.org. Appendix: Course Description The Start: The starting line has a width of 70-meters that is able to accommodate a front line space for each team s top five runners of the NCAA championships required width of 2-meters per team. A common starting line is used for the K and 10K courses. From the start line the initial straightaway extends 0-meters before the first turn. The initial straightaway gradually narrows from 70- meters wide its beginning to 10 meters wide at the 300-meter point of course. The starting stretch is of even footing from all starting positions and is flat through the entire stretch. The first turn is gradual (30 degree turn). The Course: The various race distances are achieved by using a series of loops to allow for a course that is simple to follow for athletes, spectators and coaches. The red loop is 2900-meters and the black loop is 2,000-meters. The course features an all grass layout with a minimum width of 10 meters throughout with the exception an area where the width narrows to 9-meters for a distance of only one-meter. The course includes several gradual uphill, downhill and rolling terrain sections to add a reasonable challenge. Race Routes,000-meter Race Route (2 x Red Loop) + Finish 10,000-meter Race Route (2 x Red Loop) + (2 x Black Loop) + Finish Split Locations: Split locations will be located at non-specific distance points that allow for live race updates approximately every fiveminutes. The Finish: A common finish line is used for both races. The finishing straightaway extends 200-meters from the final turn through the same straightaway used for the start. The finish line is located on the outside side of the course to allow spectators to have an unobstructed view of the finish stretch and finish line from the main spectator areas. Course Description: Red Loop Description: From the beginning of the loop runners will run along a straight and flat stretch of 0-meters before the first turn. The first turn is gradual at a 30 degree angle. Runners then run straight along a mostly flat path for 20-meters before making a sharp left turn followed by another sharp left turn 30-meters further. From there runners run straight along a mostly flat path for 00-meters before their next turn. The next turn is gradual and directs runners towards an uphill portion after another 100-meter flat straightaway. The first uphill is 230-meters long. At the top of the hill runners make a gradual left turn and run flat for 0-meters before making a gradual left turn downhill. This downhill portion is 2-meters long and at its end runners make a right turn into a flat straightaway that is 90-meters long. Runners then turn right and travel uphill for 280-meters before turning left at the top of the hill. From there runners run along a straight and rolling downhill path for 300-meters. Another gradual left turn sends runners back down the hill for the loops final 330-meters. Black Loop Description: From the beginning of the loop runners will run along a straight and flat stretch of 330-meters before the first turn. The first turn is a gradual left turn that directs runners towards an uphill portion after another 100-meter flat straightaway. Finish Stretch Description: From the end of the loops directly by the starting line, runners turn left across the initial straightaway along a flat 200-meter stretch to the finish line. 8
