Other Comments/Explanations: All horses engaged in todays jumping events were examined prior to competing by an RVL Veterinary Surgeon. On arrival on course, app H. Grace was examined by the medical officers and passed suitable to ride. Race 1 E-cycle solutions maiden hurdle - 3200 metres: Latin Moves when weighing out it was found that S. Pateman was 1kg overweight. As there was no other rider available, Stewards gave special permission for S. Pateman to ride the gelding 1kg over its allotted weight. S. Pateman was fined $400 under AR120(b). Raced keenly in the early stages. Rider S. Pateman explained that the gelding was under pressure passing the 800 metres and as a result, commenced to give ground and made an unusual respiratory noise. Eased out of the race after jumping the eighth hurdle. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. Excellent Rhythm connections advised the gelding will be ridden towards the rear. Restrained at the start and settled at the rear of the field. Began awkwardly and got its head up on a number of occasions. Made the third hurdle awkwardly. Rider J. Lynch acknowledged that in endeavouring to follow instructions to restrain the gelding after leaving the gates, he may have placed too much effort in trying to follow those instructions. Tangara when negotiating the first hurdle became unbalanced after being bumped by Big Country, which was racing tight to the inside of Latin Moves. Rider R. David was reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides near the 150 metres. Big Country after negotiating the first hurdle bumped by Tangara. McNulty made a faulty jump at the eighth hurdle and became severely unbalanced on landing. Eased out of the race after jumping the ninth hurdle near the 400 metres. Rider A. Lynch reported that after jumping poorly passing the 800 metres, he eased his mount out of the race prior to straightening. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. Darebin eased out of the race after jumping the ninth hurdle near the 400 metres. Rider C. Douglas reported that after jumping poorly passing the 800 metres he eased his mount out of the race prior to straightening. A post race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to its near hind. Mightiest (4 th placegetter) ($2.20 fav) rider R. Cully could offer no excuse for the geldings performance. Oerter made a faulty jump at the seventh hurdle and became unbalanced on landing. Severely hampered when All Well fell at the eighth hurdle. Rider C. Douglas was fined $300 for using his whip on more than ten occasions prior to the 100m under LR53A(1)(a)(ii). All Well made a faulty jump at the second hurdle and landed awkwardly. When negotiating the eighth hurdle made a faulty jump and fell. Oerter, which was following was severely hampered, About The Journey was hampered and Space Invader was severely hampered. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained a laceration to its chin requiring a veterinary certificate prior to racing again. Referred to Jumps Review Panel for assessment (performance). Rider J. Mott was examined by the medical officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements. J. Mott explained that after negotiating the first hurdle he was happy to sit outside Oerter; however, when the rider of that horse elected to take a sit, he allowed All Well to stride where it commenced to race quite keenly. He said that he allowed the gelding to stride freely as he was reluctant to try and restrain All Well at a previous start at Ballarat on May 14, 2017 when leading, he attempting to do the same, the gelding got its head up, was reluctant to respond and eventually fell. He added that he was able to get All Well to come back underneath him passing the 1600 metres and although the horse had set a very fast pace early, he had performed similarly in several of its trials. About The Journey hampered when All Well fell at the eighth hurdle. Space Invader severely hampered when making contact with the fallen horse at the eighth hurdle. A post race veterinary examination revealed a cut above the geldings offside knee. Veterinary certificate required prior to racing again. Race 3 peter gray 3yo maiden plate - 1200 metres: Isere acting on a telephone call from trainer J. Sadler who advised the filly was injured and therefore unfit to start, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Isere at 8.23 a.m. J. Sadler will provide a veterinary certificate in regard to this matter. Tattoo You connections advised that with the blinkers on and inside barrier, they will attempt to race in a more forward position. Settled in a handy position. Preemptive began awkwardly. Rider J. Fry reported that the gelding raced like a tired horse and may have come to the end of its preparation. Co-trainers P. and T. Templeton advised that the gelding would be spelled. Mr Vertigo began awkwardly. Rider N. Callow reported that after being slightly slow to leave the gates, he urged the gelding along, which responded better than he expected to race in a more forward position. No Nonsense Ned raced wide without cover. Vin Fiz raced wide without cover. Rider B. Rawiller reported that with the blinkers on today, the gelding began well and raced in a more forward position. Myopic in the middle stages raced keenly. Near the 600 metres was steadied when racing tight between Single Intent and Meat Traders, which rolled out away from the heels of Cranky Missus.
Meat Traders held up when unable to obtain a clear run between the 500 metres until on straightening near the 300 metres. Toorak Playboy (M. Allen) held up for a clear run between the 400 metres until the 250 metres where it shifted out abruptly to the outside on Preemptive to obtain a clear run and in doing so, inconvenienced Cranky Missus when that filly was giving ground. In the incident Vin Fiz was bumped by Toorak Playboy. In all of the circumstances M. Allen was severely reprimanded. Cranky Missus rider C. Symons reported that the filly travelled well in the early and middle stages but when asked for an effort on straightening, was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. Race 4 perce martin maiden plate (1) - 1400 metres: Wrightly Written connections advised from the wide gate they will attempt to ride the mare with cover. Settled mid field, however, wide without cover and eventually improved to settle handy without cover for the remainder of the race. Nurburgring wide without cover in the early stages, allowed to stride and eventually settle outside the leader near the 1200 metres. Gotta Be A Rokstar layed out when under pressure in the straight. Vladivostok rider J. Mott reported that the gelding with the blinkers on, raced keenly early and although he was able to settle Vladivostok behind the lead, when asked for an effort in the straight, was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. Om Nom rider N. Callow reported that the filly which was having its second start after a spell, was one-paced. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. Sir Winston rider D. Stackhouse reported that the gelding would be better suited to a track with more give in it and over a longer journey. Race 5 john allman maiden plate (2) - 1400 metres: Our Son George slow to begin. Rider B. Higgins reported that with the blinkers on the gelding raced in a more forward position than he had wished. Poets Ghost began awkwardly and lost ground. Sharkbright steadied at the start when tightened between Blue Bear and Rexmont, which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts from its rider. Rider A. Creighton reported that the gelding raced keenly in the early and middle stages. So You Rock app. B. Thompson reported that the gelding, which having its first race start, travelled well but raced greenly and would be better suited to a longer journey. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.
Kings Shadow wide without cover in the early stages until gaining a position outside the leader near the 1000 metres. Vardy wide without cover for the majority of the event. Zuberina held up when unable to obtain a clear run between the 500 metres until approaching the 200 metres. Valleyofthedolls held up for a clear run from the 500 metres until the 300 metres. When being held up, clipped the heels of Kings Shadow near the 400 metres and became momentarily unbalanced. Footage of this incident was shown to app. R. Pearson in the presence of apprentice jockey coach D. Gauci. App R. Pearson acknowledged that she allowed her mount to race too close to the runner in front when held up for a run and consequently made contact with the heels of that runner resulting in her mount blundering. Ms Pearson will be given further tuition relative to the incident. Rexmont rider R. McLeod reported that after beginning better than expected from his wide gate, to avoid being caught without cover, he elected to press forward and take the lead passing the 900 metres. Race 6 wilson medic one rising stars bm64 handicap - 1200 metres: Parvenu as no apprentice rider was available, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Parvenu at 11.07 a.m. Cordoba slow to begin. Tycoon Felix began awkwardly. For a short distance approaching the 700 metres was awkwardly placed inside the heels of Unruly Student which shifted in, and consequently Tycoon Felix steadied to take up a position behind Unruly Student. Unruly Student slow to begin. Any Given Bender raced keenly in the lead. Stride Out wide without cover. Hung in when under pressure in the straight proving difficult for app. H. Grace to ride out with his usual vigour. Soldiers Opera had difficulty obtaining a clear run round the home turn. Held up for a clear run for a short distance near the 200 metres and again held up over the concluding stages and as a result was not fully tested. Kapscero app R. Pearson was fined $200 under AR92(14), for failing to claim down to her minimum riding weight which had been advertised at her request at acceptance day. Certified Twenty after being presented in the enclosure without its approved tongue-tie and following unsuccessful attempts to fit the gear to the gelding at the start, permission was granted for Certified Twenty to race without a tongue-tie and announcements were made to that effect. Trainer K. Keys was fined $50 for presenting Certified Twenty without its approved gear. App B. Mertens reported that the gelding did not stretch out and would be
better suited to tracks with more given in them. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. Zipped Up app. L. Riordan reported that the mare travelled well but did not respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery. Race 7 max blakiston f&m bm64 handicap - 1100 metres: La Renarde after being loaded in the barriers got its leg up, was removed and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. Had difficulty obtaining a clear run in the early part of the straight. Near the 200 metres was disappointed for a run between Annah Haze and Stratum Magic, which shifted in slightly. Then held up between those two horses when a clear run did not appear and shifted out approaching the 50 metres to obtain a clear run. Simple Solution slow to begin. Mosaqua began awkwardly. Patient began awkwardly. Poppy Talk tightened and steadied from the heels of Decoco, which was taken in by Annah Haze (L. Riordan) near the 900 metres. Stratum Magic raced wide without cover. Decoco raced wide without cover. Rider L. Nolen could offer no excuse for the performance of the filly, however, noticed it was making an abnormal breathing noise after the race. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. Annah Haze app L. Riordan pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that near the 900 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Decoco, which was carried in onto Poppy Talk, resulting in Poppy Talk having to be eased and Decoco being awkwardly placed for a number of strides. App L. Riordans permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at midnight June 03, 2017 and to expire at midnight June 15, 2017, a total of 12 meetings (4 metropolitan 8 provincial). In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his guilty plea and deemed the carelessness to be in the mid-range. He was notified that as this was his seventeenth suspension for careless riding since he obtained his permit to ride in May 2016, he would not be permitted to accept rides until he undergoes a review by the Skills Panel. Race 8 helen cantwell/thelma coster gippsland middle distance series heat 2-1400 metres: Rock Of Mahal T. Busuttin and N. Young were fined $30 for use of the Clubs colours on the gelding. App B. Thompson reported that the gelding was looking for a distance longer than todays event. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. Golden Fusaichi connections advised from the wide barrier they will attempt to ride with cover. Settled handy however, raced wide without cover. Beale Street slow to begin.
Reddour slow to begin. When questioned, rider N. Callow stated over the longer journey today he did not want to fire the mare up early as at its previous start, it had raced fairly keenly. Consequently, he was somewhat negative on the mare leaving the gate, however, got further back than he intended. He added that it did not travel at any time throughout the event and was very disappointing. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. Elegant Queen raced wide without cover. Macquarie Magic began awkwardly and then bumped by Rock Of Mahal, which shifted out. Held up when unable to obtain a clear run between the 500 metres and until approaching the 200 metres. Pharrell held up for a clear run rounding the home turn. Rider R. Maloney reported that the gelding travelled well, however, near the 200 metres lost its action and consequently failed to finish the race off. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. Volontiers app L. Riordan reported that the gelding had been missing the start at its previous races, so he urged his mount along when leaving the barriers and as a result settled in the lead, which was not anticipated. Race 9 anthony lee/david wilson gippsland middle distance series heat 3-1600 metres: The start of the race was delayed several minutes due to a power failure in the Judges box when the horses were parading in the mounting yard. Hot Power slow to begin and was then steadied when tightened for room between Walloon Region and Rooconi, which shifted out. Glacial Age began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover from the 900 metres. Windbern wide without cover in the early stages until being allowed to stride and take the lead near the 1200 metres. Nangawooka wide without cover in the early stages until eventually settling outside the leader passing the 1200 metres. Erector wide without cover. Forthefunofit raced keenly passing the 1200 metres. Checked shortly after from the heels of Calibrate. Rider J. Mott reported that the gelding raced keenly in the middle stages. Dont Shoot raced keenly in the middle stages. Walloon Region passing the 800 metres got its head up when being checked from the heels of Nangawooka. Chilean Wonder in the middle stages pulled very hard.
