Studio 4 Parent/Dancer Competition Handbook All Competitive Lines 2017-2018 1
COMPETITION POLICIES - When at competitions we ask that dancers please treat the facilities with respect. It is important to us as a studio that we use what is provided to us and not take advantage. Dancers must use dressing rooms to get ready and costumed. It is not okay to set up a hair and make- up studio in the lobby area. Please make sure you and your dancers are picking up after yourselves. We spend a lot of time picking up after our dancers at the end of each competition day. Be cautious that if you enter a competition facility, you are either leaving with all of the items you brought in with you or you have thrown away what you can. - Dancers (and supporters) should wear Studio 4 apparel (or teal) at all times. Proudly represent who we are! - Line Mangers will be the direct contact with Studio 4 staff. They will have answers to any questions that you may have on competition days. They will let you know how much time you have for food breaks, what time you need to be back and ready to rehearse and any other questions you may have. They will begin the rehearsal process. - Try to encourage independence with your children on competition days. We encourage older classes to work amongst one another to get stage ready. If dancers arrive to each competition with hair and make- up complete, dancers and room moms should be able to complete the rest of the preparation process with little added help. -Dancers must be dressed and ready to compete 2 hours prior to when they are first scheduled to compete or when doors open. Failure to follow this policy may result in an inability to compete. Dancers and classes as a whole require a certain amount of preparation to get on stage. - Room moms of Tots, Bitties, Dolls, and Pearls, it is your responsibility to pick 1 dancer per dance at each competition to go on stage and collect the award for that specific dance. We ask that class awards be received by dancers without solo/duet/trio or small group dances as these dancers have additional opportunities to collect awards. The same dancer should collect all awards from that comp (i.e. category award, overall awards, special awards, etc). It is helpful to determine this prior to comp season and post on class FB page so all are aware. - Hair and make- up needs to look fresh and untouched at all times. It is important to realize that the level of dance ability our dancers bring to stage needs to be matched with their entire look. Hair and make- up should look clean and professional. Please take some time prior to competition to master hair and make- up preparation to help provide stress- free competition days. While it is important to focus on a professional look, it is also important to remember this is not a beauty pageant. While certain hair changes may be necessary (i.e. Specialty dances) solo hair changes will not be allowed if they will prevent dancers from focusing on their class/specialty dance preparation. - Dancers will be coached on what to say if collecting awards. In the past, we have had some trouble with pronunciation of names. Please make note of teacher/choreographer pronunciations. - If your child receives trophies and plaques for lines or small groups, please take them home with you from competition and deliver to the front desk on your child s next class. Please bring pins and ribbons directly to your first teacher on your next class to distribute the pins and ribbons to each dancer. They will not be collected at the front desk. - At competitions, please come to support all dancers, not just your child's class. Make good luck signs, bring treats, etc... Remember that Studio 4 is a family and we want to use these competition weekends to create lasting memories. - We expect Studio dancers and parents to properly represent Studio 4 at all times 2
