Down 2-0 going into their final at-bat, Delmarva drew a pair of leadoff walks to spark the rally. Yermin Mercedes belted a two-run triple to tie the game, and then Elier Leyva lifted a sacrifice fly to score Mercedes for the winning run. Delmarva has now won seven of their last nine games heading into this Southern swing. TODAY S OPPONENT: Jordan Foley will start Wednesday s series opener for the Charleston River- Dogs. Foley has made ten starts for Charleston this season, going 3-3 with a 3.35 ERA. Foley has also filled in for the Yankees AAA affiliate, Scranton Wilkes-Barre, for six innings. The right-hander missed about a month of action from late April to late May. New York selected Foley in the 5th round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of Central Michigan University. HOME IS WHERE THE RUNS ARE: Since the All-Star Break, Delmarva s offense has been superb at Perdue Stadium. In the last 16 home games, the Shorebirds lineup has scored 104 runs for an average of 6.5 runs per game. For the season as a whole, Delmarva is averaging 4.7 runs per game. 18: On Tuesday night, Delmarva scored a season-high 18 runs against Lexington. The Shorebirds previous high in run output was 13 runs vs. the Kannapolis Intimidators on June 15th. Delmarva also tied their largest margin of victory at 12 runs, having previously won a 12-0 shutout vs. Savannah on April 28th in a rain-shortened five-inning game down at Grayson Stadium. ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles started a key series with the New York Yankees with a 3-2 loss. After trailing 2-0, the O s scored twice in the sixth inning to tie the game. However, New York came right back with the go-ahead run in the bottom half. The Yankees hold a five-game lead over Baltimore in the American League East. PLAYER TO WATCH GARRETT CORTRIGHT P The Shorebirds reliever has taken over the closer role since Donnie Hart s promotion to Frederick. In the months of June and July, Cortright has not allowed a single earned run. Over 21 innings pitched, Cortright has allowed just 13 hits and three unearned runs. The reliever has lowered his ERA from 2.21 to now 1.09, best on the team. WHO S HOT/WHO ELSE WHO S HOT CAM KNEELAND In the last 16 games, Kneeland has 21 hits, including seven doubles, one triple and two home runs. In back-to-back games, Kneeland put up a career-high four RBIs on Tuesday and Wednesday vs. Lexington. WHO ELSE YERMIN MERCEDES Mercedes has five homers since the All-Star Break, which is the most among Orioles minor league players during that span. On Monday, Mercedes came through in the clutch with a game-tying triple in the 9th.

In his first nine starts, Walker has put together a 3.32 ERA with a 4-2 record. The Shorebirds are 6-3 in the nine games that Walker has started. Walker appeared in 13 games out of the bullpen for Aberdeen in 2014, going 1-1 with a 3.80 ERA in 23.2 innings. He limited opposing hitters to a.250 average while striking out 17 batters. The Baltimore Orioles selected Walker in the 22nd round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of the University of New Mexico. Delmarva trailed 7-0 going into the bottom of the 9th, and Yermin Mercedes grand slam was too little too late. 2015 HIGHS (min. 5 IP) CAREER HIGHS (min. 5 IP) Low Runs: -- 0, 3x Low Runs: -- 0, 3x High Runs: -- 7, vs. HAG (6/25) High Runs: -- 7, vs. HAG (6/25/15) Low Hit: -- 2, 2x Low Hits: -- 2, 2x High Hits: -- 7, 3x High Hits: -- 7, 3x Innings: -- 7.0, vs. LWD (7/1) Innings: -- 7.0, vs. LWD (7/1/15) Walks: -- 3, at HAG (7/11) Walks: -- 3, at HAG (7/11/15) Strikeouts: -- 6, 2x Strikeouts: -- 6, 2x MISCELLANEOUS NUMBERS W L ERA GS IP ER Home 1 2 5.09 5 23.0 13 Road 3 0 1.33 4 20.1 3 Day 0 0 2.25 1 4.0 1 Night 4 2 3.43 8 39.1 15 AVG H AB HR BB SO vs. Left:.256 21 82 0 2 11 vs. Right:.253 21 83 2 5 16 TOTALS:.255 42 165 2 7 27 INNING-BY-INNING Inning ERA IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG GIDP 1 5.00 9.0 10 5 5 0 2 8.286 0 2 4.00 9.0 12 4 4 0 2 6.343 2 3 6.48 8.1 10 10 6 2 1 2.286 1 4 1.17 7.2 3 1 1 0 0 6.120 1 5 0.00 5.2 3 1 0 0 1 3.150 0 6 0.00 2.2 3 0 0 0 1 2.273 0 7 0.00 1.0 1 0 0 0 0 0.250 0 8 9+ MONTH-BY-MONTH Month Record ERA IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG April May 0-0 2.25 4.0 3 1 1 0 0 2.214 June 2-1 5.06 16.0 18 13 9 1 2 12.277 July 2-1 2.31 23.1 21 7 6 1 5 13.244 August CAREER STATISTICS Season Team W-L ERA IP H R ER HR BB SO 2014 Aberdeen 1-1 3.80 23.2 22 11 10 1 8 17 2015 Delmarva 4-2 3.32 43.1 42 21 16 2 7 27 TOTALS 5-3 3.49 67.0 64 32 26 3 15 44 AGAINST THE RIVERDOGS: Walker has never faced Charleston in his minor league career. Game #96 Delmarva Shorebirds at Charleston RiverDogs (Yankees) Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park MANAGER RYAN MINOR Minor, 41, returns for his seventh season on the Shorebirds coaching staff, and his fifth as the team s manager. In 2014, he led the Shorebirds to 66 wins, the most victories for the franchise since 2009. This is Minor s second stint in Salisbury, having previously managed the Shorebirds for three seasons (2010-12) and spent two seasons (2008-09) as the hitting coach for the Shorebirds. In between, he managed the Frederick Keys (Advanced-A) in 2013. During his tenure as manager of the Shorebirds, the team compiled 232 wins, the most of any Delmarva manager. Minor aided the development of current Orioles, Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop, who played for the Shorebirds in 2011. Minor, a longtime resident of Salisbury with his wife Allyson and two children Reagan and Finley, enjoyed a four-year run in the major leagues from 1998 through 2001. He spent his first three years with the Orioles and his final season with the Montreal Expos. Minor s playing career is best remembered for replacing Cal Ripken, Jr. at third base on September 20, 1998 when the consecutive games streak of 2,632 came to a close. The Orioles drafted Minor in the 33rd round of the 1996 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Oklahoma. In 1997, he played for Shorebirds and was an SAL All-Star third baseman. He batted.307 with 24 home runs and 97 RBIs. Minor still owns the franchise single season records for doubles (42). Minor also owns a decorated college basketball career. He is sixth all-time in scoring at Oklahoma with 1,946 points. He was selected in the second round (32nd overall) of the 1996 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. Jay Gonzalez, since promoted to Frederick, leads the team with five triples. Yermin Mercedes hit the team s most recent three-bagger, a game-tying hit in the 9th inning on Monday. WALK THIS WAY: The Shorebirds are 1st in the South Atlantic League in walks drawn at 335. That works out to 3.6 walks per game for the lineup. Delmarva s patience is a big reason why the team is 2nd in the SAL with a.334 on-base percentage despite a.254 batting average in the middle of the pack. INJURY BUG: Delmarva s roster currently features 16 players on the disabled list. Players currently on the shelf include three rotation members (Lucas Long, Bennett Parry, Sebastian Vader), three catchers (Jonah Heim, Alex Murphy, Tanner Murphy) and their All-Star third baseman (Jomar Reyes).
