CELEBRATING 23 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Albany Chapter - American Singles Golf Association April 2015 President s Message Spring has sprung, so dust off your golf clubs and get ready for 1st Formal Outing of the season. We are back at Capital Hills for our annual Kentucky Derby Day on Saturday, May 2nd with tee times starting at 11:00 AM. This is usually a wellattended event, so we encourage you to sign up as soon as possible. We will have dinner in the dining room in the back where the TV is so we can watch the Kentucky Derby race. We are looking for a volunteer to run the Derby pool, email us at albanyasgs2002@gmail.com if you are interested. Weather permitting we will be golfing every weekend at various courses around the Capital Region, so if you have a favorite course, let us know. We are in the process of finalizing our informal golf guidelines and will send them to our members soon. A big thank you to everyone who worked at the Empire Golf Expo; your time is greatly appreciated. After much discussion the Board has decided NOT to participate next year because no new members signed up during the three days so we got no return on our investment. Also, a big thank you to Bob Werner who volunteered to start our new website. Once he gets it setup, we will send out the information on how to access it. See you on the golf course soon. ~Marian (Madam Prez) April 2015 ASGA Board Meeting The April ASGA meeting was held on April 8th at Salty s Pub in Clifton Park. Members in attendance were: Marian Gogola, Mike Congero, Karen Bishop, Bob Werner, Ed Barnard, John Holmes, Helene Chapados, Sandy Kuntz, Rich Shostak, Gary O Brien. Rita Roberti, Deb Ptasinski and Kathleen Patterson. Topics discussed included: Golf Expo: After discussion, it was decided that the Chapter would not participate next year, as participation did not produce any new members. There were 12 prospects and Marian will be reaching out to determine their interest in joining. Formal Golf: The first formal outing of the season will be on May 2 nd 2015 at Capital Hills. Helene reports that she has had some difficulty in connecting with someone to confirm the prices. More information to follow. There was mention of an overnight stay for the July 12th formal outing at Cronin s. Marian will ask Bob Doyle to check into this idea. Membership. Current membership is approximately 70. Discussion included new ways to increase membership. Several suggestions were made including: Focusing on Meet-Up Reaching out to John Craig, the Record/Saratogian golf writer, as an avenue for exposure Optigolf/Frank as a possible link Brochures in a stand-up holder at point of purchase at the courses Informal Golf: Discussion on the proposed new recommendations for formal and informal golf including adherence to the recommendation. Spaghetti Bowl Twelve of our ASGA members met to participate in this year's annual "Spaghetti Bowl." The event was held on Saturday, March 21st, at Spare Time in Latham. Cheering the bowlers on were Mike Congero and Bob Doyle! The team of Andy, Cindy and Bob LaBarge took top honors with a triple score of 1470. Clyde Winne had the highest game with a score of 249. And Ellen Riley had the "best golf score" with a 72. Following bowling, we convened for dinner at Buca di Beppo on Wolf Road. Nineteen were present for dinner with 3 others joining us for drinks!
