November 26th, 2012 Dear Parents and Players of the Pleasant Plains Football Program, Football players at the high school level across Illinois take part in vigorous off-season training programs similar to ours as part of their overall football program s philosophy. In order for our football team here at Pleasant Plains High School to compete within our conference and at the state championship level our athletes must get bigger, stronger, and faster! The off-season strength & conditioning program (starting November 26, 2012) will be supervised by the football coaching staff. This program will be intense and incorporate all the fitness components of speed, strength, agility, and power as we develop our athletes and prepare them physically and emotionally for high school football. The strength program is also an important element of our football program in the prevention of injuries common in high school sports. As well as improving our physical skills, we will continue to demand that our players show a commitment to the other aspects we see as important to developing a strong program. A focus on accountability, building relationships, academics, integrity, competition, and servant-hood will be part of the off-season process. Players will receive both rewards and consequences in each of these areas. We know we must develop young men of high character, not just high athletic ability. Many parents and players will have questions about the off-season strength & conditioning program, please feel free to touch base with Coach Pugh with questions. Please return the attached form to Coach Pugh. See the attached Weight Room Schedule for dates and times of workouts. The bar has been set. How will you respond? Cardinal Pride, Brad Pugh Head Football Coach Pleasant Plains High School bpugh@ppcusd8.org

2013 Plains Football Off-Season Commitment Form Dear Cardinal Football Player & Parents, Our goals: 1. Win the rivalry games (Auburn, Porta, Williamsville) 2. Sangamo Conference Championship 3. Advance in the State Playoffs We are asking for the following commitment from everyone involved with Cardinal Football: Coaching Staff: 1. Conduct off-season program. 2. Evaluate players from 8th -11th grade. 3. Meet with players interested in playing football for the 2013 season to discuss evaluations. 4. Provide opportunity for players to improve technique and knowledge during the off season. 5. Build positive relationships with players. 6. Match offensive and defensive philosophies to upcoming players and their talents. Parents: 1. Support and Demand your child s efforts to successfully complete the Uncommon Cardinal Off-season Program. 2. Support the efforts of the coaching staff to improve the overall quality of Plains Football. 3. Find out your child s goals and desires concerning Plains Football. Players: 1. Participate in our off season training program. 2. Participate in a 2nd sport. 3. Give us your best (workouts, classroom, community, family) 4. Attend your player evaluation. 5. Discuss with parent and coach your goals and desires for the upcoming season.
Off Season Program As a coaching staff our goal is to put a team on the field that is capable of winning the rivalry games, winning a conference championship, and advancing in the playoffs. As coaches, we can provide the opportunity to increase player s football I.Q., increase player s strength, and improve overall speed, but it is up to the player to take advantage of the opportunity. Player s effort and commitment will be measured through attendance and participation (see off season point system). We will also be measuring improvement over the off season (see off season testing). We expect every football player to participate in our offseason program that will improve their abilities and character. Players will not receive credit for working out in their basement or at the YMCA. The team bonding and sacrificing with your teammates are as important as the training being done. If they are in a sport that will not make time to lift in season, I suggest they find out why. Being bigger, faster, and stronger will help every athlete at PPHS. While we will all share the pride that comes with winning the rivalry games, winning the Sangamo Conference championship, and advancing in the state playoffs, we also must share in the work that is ahead of us. Players are asked to sacrifice three to four hours of their 168 hours they have during the week. Parents are asked to support their child by finding out his goals and checking progress over the next seven months. They are also asked to support the efforts and decisions of the coaching staff. Coaches are asked to provide the opportunity for athletes to increase speed, size, strength, and knowledge while building the character of each player. If we all do our part, we will enter the 2013 season with the opportunity to meet our individual and team goals. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Today s preparation will determine tomorrow s success. As a player and parent, I recognize the importance of the Pleasant Plains Football Off-Season Program. I have read the guidelines and expectations of the program and support these policies that are intended to build both men of character as well as improve athletic ability.
