CARDINAL CONNECTION WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2017 NO EVENTS TODAY RESULTS FROM YESTERDAY GIRLS BASKETBALL JV Alexandria 42 SC Tech 39 The JV Boys Basketball Team squeezed out a win last night at home. The Tigers built a quick, early lead that the Cards were able to chip away at throughout the half. Shoring up our defense, allowed the Cards stay in the game with a 5 point deficit at the half (21-26). In the second half, the Cards slowly worked their way back to get the lead and finish out the game by controlling the ball. The Cards will travel to ROCORI next week Thursday. GIRLS HOCKEY VARSITY Alex 3 Fergus Falls 2 (OT) The Lady Cards took on section rival Fergus Falls Otters for the first of two regular season matchups. As always, a tight game at the RCC. The Otters chowed down on the Cards for the first period, but the Cards held it to a 0-0 score and outshot the Otters 9-4. The second period was busy with 4 total goals. The Otters took a 2-0 lead for the first half of the second. The Cardinals would come back to score a couple surge goals to even it 2-2. Scoring first for the Cards from the point was Allison O'Kane from Mayson Toft and Kristin Trosvig. Shortly after to tie it up was Calley Richardson from Talia Olson. The remainder of the second period and third period was scoreless, but with the Cards controlling the remainder of the game. It took 5 minutes of overtime hockey before the Cards would capitalize on their chances to win the game. Mayson Toft lead the way with the game winning goal and Anna Doherty with the lone assist. The Cardinals had another good night of producing shots, with a total of 41 to the Otters 14. The coaching staff is proud of the way our girls continue to battle and learn from our weaknesses. The Varsity Lady Cards take the ice again on Thursday for an early Home game against East Grand Forks at 5:00pm. Go Cards! GIRLS HOCKEY JV Cardinals 4 Fergus Falls 0 After a long week on the road, the Lady Cards were excited to get back on home ice vs. the Otters of Fergus Falls Tuesday night at the Runestone Community Center. Looking to improve on their 1-1-1 record the Cards got on the scoreboard first against the Otter s mid-way through the first with a goal from Micah Summer with assists going to Hadlee Hansen and Meg Shercliffe. The Second proved to be very challenging for the girls as they did not record a shot on net and found themselves on theirs heals for most of the period just trying to keep the puck out of our own net being outshot 8-0. Standing tall in the nets for the Cardinal s was 8th grader Hailee Bailey who had a beautiful pad save on a breakaway attempt mid-way through the period which helped energize the team as they headed into the third period with the 1-0 lead. Bring on the third period, and that they did as they posted 3 more goals for a 4-0 win. Scoring in the third was Tonia Fricke. unassisted which was her first goal of the season. Closing things out for the Cards was Meg Shercliffe with assists going to Asacia Halbe and Paige Boesl and netting her second of the game, Micah Summer. from yes, our net minder Hailee Bailey. Way to go Hailee! Girls JV will be back on the ice against Rocori-River Lakes in Paynesville next Tuesday evening 12-12-17.
BOYS HOCKEY JV Alexandria 2 Sauk Rapids 0 On Tuesday night the boys JV hockey team took on Sauk Rapids-Rice. The boys came out and after a bit of a sluggish start they got things turned around nicely. The boys starting playing some good team hockey and we really put Sauk Rapids on their heels. We put a bunch of shots on net converting on two of them, but that proved to be enough. We ended up winning 2-0 behind goals from Evan Lind and a short-handed goal by Blake Hoelscher. Our goalies (Landyn James and Bailey Rosch) combined again to post a shutout. Tonight was another good game that showed that our game is coming together. We had some very nice team play and we continue to get everyone involved and contributing. We play again on Thursday night at home. BOYS BASKETBALL VARSITY Tech 70-Alex 47 CONGRATULATIONS Michael Empting has been selected to the 2017 Minnesota Vikings All State Football Team. This team consists of 32 football players from all classes in Minnesota and is selected by a committee of sportswriters, broadcasters, Vikings staff and Minnesota high school football coaches. Michael and the entire All State Team will be recognized at halftime of the Vikings v. Cincinnati Bengals game on Sunday, December 17th. Congratulations Michael! PERFORMER OF THE WEEK Anna Doherty has been named Central Lakes Conference Performer of the Week in Girls Hockey. In six games, Anna has recorded 8 points. Ryan Borris has been named Central Lakes Conference Performer of the Week in Wrestling. In two tournaments (Eastview and Litchfield) Ryan won 7 matches. Congratulations Anna and Ryan! ARCHERY There will be an informational meeting for all students interested in participating in Archery on Dec. 12 th at 7:45am in Room D144.
