Introduction Basingstoke & North Hants CC (BNHCC) has delivered a structured coaching programme to local schools over the past six years. For the last three seasons, the Club has been a part of the England & Wales Cricket Board Chance to Shine Programme, delivering cricket coaching into increasing numbers of local primary and secondary schools year on year. Over a 13 week period during the Summer Term, the Club s Lead Coach and supporting qualified coaches provide introductory and advancing levels of coaching to Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 boys and girls and Year 7 girls, based around Continuous Cricket & Kwik Cricket match play. The Club provides up to 200 hours of fully funded coaching into participating schools. The original five year programme format was reviewed for the 2012 funding round and Clubs are now funded on a year by year basis via the Hampshire Cricket Board subject to achieving agreed success criteria. The programme provides the Club with exposure to in excess of 1000 children and is an ideal opportunity to identify new talent for on-going development within the Club s junior structure. In addition to weekly coaching & multi-skills sessions at six partner primary schools, the Club hosts an Inter-School Year 4 Continuous Cricket Tournament, an Inter-School Year 5 & 6 Kwik Cricket Tournament, a Year 7 Girls Competition and works actively with its Primary Partner Secondary School to provide year 10 sports leaders with PE group activity management skills. Whilst the C2S programme has now been established for three years and runs to the benefit of all involved (Children, Schools and Club), moving forward in 2013, the Club has identified the following areas of development: Teacher Induction & Integration Evening Schools Practice Equipment U11 Girls Cricket Competition Summer School Club Fun Days Expansion of the Primary School programme to include affiliate schools. In addition, the Club will be working pro-actively with each participating school, the ECB and local sports bodies to identify an appropriate strategy to continue funding for the programme at the end of the ECB funded period in 2015. ~ 2 ~

The Club will also host a Kwik Cricket based training session, designed to provide participating Primary Schools Teachers and Teaching Assistants with an insight into creating and managing 40 minute long coaching sessions for Year 4, 5 & 6 children. This will take place at the Club after school on the 18 th June The aim is to enable each participating Primary School to provide additional coaching and match play cricket to their children, in addition to the allocated Chance to Shine and After-School Club activities. Assembly Visits The Club Coach or suitable alternative will participate in and contribute input to a school assembly at each Primary School involved in the programme. These will be scheduled as close to the commencement of the curriculum time programme as possible to give maximum exposure to the Club s presence at each school. Assembly content will include topical material relating to the spirit of cricket and references to the Club s Schools & Community activities. Primary School lite Programme The Club will deliver a lite version of its core programme to a selected number of affiliate primary schools. The programme offering will comprise taster sessions targeting year 4 & year 5 classes; an assembly visit and dedicated teacher training for a minimum of 4 teachers/teaching assistants at each school. There will also be an option for enthusiastic affiliate schools to be invited to receive curriculum time coaching sessions for year 4 classes during the second half of the summer term 2013. ~ 6 ~

School Practice Equipment The Club will actively look to promote Cricket-based fund raising within each participating primary school with a view to providing ECB Coaching Association coaching equipment for each school to use, both for Chance to Shine and self-managed cricket practice / match sessions, as well as the Intra-School Kwik Cricket matches. 2013 Costello School Link Students The Club will look to implement a Link Student programme with The Costello School, whereby a team of Year 10 GCSE PE Students work alongside the Club s Player/Coach and UKCC2 Coaches, to further their understanding and experience of planning and delivering group practice and match play sessions. As part of the programme, each Chance to Shine Primary School will be allocated a Link Student to attend After-School Club sessions, on a free of charge basis. The Club will manage the programme and, working closely with the ECB Coaching Association, look to take each Link Student through UKCC Level 1 accreditation (age permitting), with a view to them gaining their certificates by the end of Winter Term 2013. Club Contact Costello School Contact Jon Bennett Howell Reed, Head of PE 2013 Year 4 Inter-School Continuous Cricket Tournament The Club will host and manage an inter school tournament for year 4 school participants in the 2013 core programme. This will take place at May s Bounty on the 5 th June from 1pm following completion of the curriculum time schedule. The tournament will take the format of timed continuous cricket matches with each school submitting squads of 12 girls and 12 boys who compete in teams of 8 against each of the other attending schools within their gender groups. 2013 Year 5/6 Inter-School Kwik Cricket Tournament The Club will host the Basingstoke Year 5/6 Inter-School Kwik Cricket Tournament on Tue 21 st and Thur 23 rd May 2013. Schools will choose which day they wish to attend and on each day the tournament will be based on round robin competition in groups of 4 or 5, played under the standard rules of Kwik Cricket. Finalists from each of the 2 tournaments will playoff on Wedn 12 th June to decide which 2 schools represent Basingstoke in the Hampshire Kwik Cricket finals at the Ageas Bowl later in the month. ~ 7 ~

2013 Year 7 Girls Inter-School Kwik Cricket Tournament The Club will host separate Year 7 & Year 8 Girls Kwik Cricket Tournament w/c Mon 1st July 2013. The tournament will be open to as many teams as the 3 participating secondary schools can field with the format being based on a round robin competition, played on a eight overs per side, 8-a-side format. 2013 Club Junior Section Development The Club Junior Section is targeting the continuation of its elite player development programme within its existing vibrant boy s age groups and the expansion and consolidation of its Girls Section during 2013, particularly the under 9/10 age group. Over recent years the Club has run waiting lists at most of its boy s age groups and so the current pathway for boys from school to club via the schools programme is restricted. However, the schools programme is still seen as an essential vehicle for enthusing boys and girls to take up the sport and so alternative activities to membership of junior boy s age group squads have been put in place to cater for boys who may have to sit temporarily on a squad waiting list. With this in mind the Club will look to attract boys and girls to play age group cricket through the participating Chance to Shine primary schools and at the Club, under the following campaign: Monday evening multi-skills sessions taking place at the Club from 22 nd April for boys and girls from age 7 to 10 and running continuously until September 2013. The sessions will provide a pathway to age group squads as and when waiting lists allow. Girls only sessions for Under 11 and under 13 age groups Additional Club night sessions open to girls and boys from ages 7 to 11 Specific Club days advertised to schools to promote both the Cricket Club and the wider range of facilities available at the Club. Year 4 Continuous Cricket Tournament for separate girls and boys teams. On-going Programme Sustainability Having successfully established the Chance to Shine Programme within six participating primary schools, the Club recognises that there is a need to work pro-actively with each school to identify and implement strategies to sustain the Programme beyond the Chance to Shine funding period in combination with a suitable sponsorship package. The Club will raise the subject as part of individual meetings with each participating school during the winter of 2013 to initiate this process. The Club will actively look to involve relevant ECB Chance to Shine, Hampshire Cricket and local council and sports council resources and contacts during these discussions. ~ 8 ~
