Ysgol Friars Newsletter k Ysgol Friars welcomes Sir David Brailsford Year 11 Students meet an Olympic Coaching Legend Sir David, is credited with being the major influence behind British Cycling - having overseen the numerous achievements of British cyclists from Sir Bradley Wiggins, Geriant Thomas and Victoria Pendleton, to name but three. Ensuring that Team GB finished atop the medal table for cycling at both the 2008 and 2012 Olympic games as well as developing his role as Team Sky manager since 2010, during which time both Sir Bradley Wiggins (2011) and Chris Froome (2012 and 2014), have won the Tour De France. He is credited with championing a philosophy called Best attendance raffle winners- Keep it up Millie, Brandon and Harriet! As Sir David discussed with Year 11, The whole principle came from the idea that if you broke down everything you could think of that goes into riding a bike, and then improved it by 1%, you will get a significant increase when you put them all together". OUTDOOR RECREATION Our Year 10 Outdoor Activities Group visiting DMM, based in Llanberis, the only UK manufacturer of climbing hardware as part of their course to develop their understanding of the equipment they use and of the vocational opportunities within the outdoor industry. Ysgol Friars on Twitter Our twitter account is going from strength to strength- so far we have over a 1000 followers. Sporting Success at Friars Congratulations to Lauren Hardacker, Year 9, who represented the school in the recent Eryri Gymnastics competition. Lauren achieved a silver on the floor and bronze on the vault, and was the overall champion for the under 14 category. Lauren will also be going through to the finals on 29 th February 2016. Well done to all the runners that competed in the cross country championships in Dolgellau. 8 Friars runners will now compete in the Welsh Schools Championships this month. Follow us to find out all the latest news. @Ysgol_Friars Oliver Barbaresi ran in Cardiff competing in the British Series Cross Country Challenge. Oli was 3 rd overall and 1 st in the Inter Schools Competition. Congratulations to our Under 16's Netball team who were successful in a recent tournament.
