Parent Booster Meeting 8/14/18 7-8:30 pm Minutes Call to Order: @ 7:02 pm by Kristen Marine Welcome and Introductions: Introduced the Boardo Secretary: Gina Kuhlmann o Treasurer: Donna Mester o Fundraising: Michelle Stone o Communications: Michael Mejias o Webmaster: Tonya Shuford (not present) o President: Kristen Marine o Vice-President: N/A Review and approve previous Minutes: Took a few minutes to review previous meeting minutes. Motion to accept: Duane Roberts, Donna Mester; Minutes approved Review and approve previous treasurer report: Details, income is on top, green= overall income MB budget and General budget Mr.V will give proposed spending. Opening balance for each account and the current balance for each. Kids that participate in different ensembles, may transfer funds from one budget to another. However, it will skew the budgets a bit. Back side has a list of expenditures and what needs approved. This year vs. last year Fireworks had a positive upswing in profit. Just closed out Prime Shine, but it is not added in yet. $414 profit. Motion to approve financial report: Michelle Stone, Michael Mejias; approved Communications report: Social Media: Most of the platforms were there already. Just had to update them. All boosters should have received an email from Mike introducing himself along with a description of the different platforms. o See Mike if you are not receiving communications so that we can fix that. Communications will be put out through all the different platforms. If you take pictures at events, please share them with us. This will help us get ourselves out into the community. o Just having a conversation at a pizza joint resulted in getting free pizza for the bank. o Looking for a few people to help out with taking pictures at the events. See Mike if interested. Jessica-Complemented on the great job Mike is doing. Jessica-Question about the Football game. Will reminders be sent to the volunteers?

o Mike will make sure to send reminders for volunteers. Webmaster Report: Tonya not present. Please visit our web page to check out all the updates that Tanya has done for us. Tonya s child is no longer going to be in the marching band. She will continue working on the website for us for the time being. o Is there someone interested in taking it on? Fundraiser Report: We base ordering product based on what you pledge that you will sell. We are having fundraisers where people say they will participate, and then they don t. Fireworks booth: Thank you top every one who came out to volunteer. Next year we are looking at having 2 booths. Will need double the number of volunteers. Meat Sticks and Mtn. Mikes last fundraisers for MB all others will be for winter Prime Shine: Not very many people sold. Meat Sticks: $50 for 25 meat sticks. They sell for $2 each Last fundraiser for MB Family Night Out: Chipotle next week, Panda express is next month. We get a percentage of the sales. Mountain Mikes: $20 = $10 profit available now. See Michelle Last fundraiser for MB Penny War is coming up: All students in Music are involved. 4 teams competed to raise the most points. The winners get to do Vallejo Pie. Mattress Sale again this year. Want to open for the whole school. Looking for an assistant to pick up product. See Michelle if interested. Kristen Marine-Thank you Michelle for all your hard work. If you are interested in helping her out, let us know. President s Report: Fireworks: Thank you to everyone who came out to help. It was a huge success. Farmer John was happy with us being out there. We are looking for another site that has more traffic. Possibly Save Mart on Sylvan. Band Camp/BBQ: That was fun listing to what the students were creating. Passing out popsicles. The kids were overall appreciative. They were able to do some bonding activities. Tug-o-war, water balloon fight. One day Mike and I were waling down the hallway and the students started to cheer. Nomination of Vice President: Vote in Dave Sanson as VP: Motion to accept Dave: Doug Stucker, Jennifer Lipe. Unanimous approval. Parent Involvement:

Committee positions: Looking for committee members to take on little snippets to help out with some of the responsibilities. Volunteering: We had a lot for the fireworks booth. The sign-ups are behind Dave on the wall. They are also in Charms. o The sports boosters do have someone to do their own days for concessions. Kristen may be contacting some of you that already volunteered to switch days. o Need volunteers (all hands on deck) for MIV our first competition is here in Modesto at Johansen. The Exec. Board already has another meeting scheduled to work on this. As soon as we organize the information, we will bring it out to you. o 3 days for championships Fundraising: Finances are difficult, Fundraising is a great opportunity to make up the difference. Mr.V does make his budget based on the pledges. If you cannot make your pledge, you need to let Michelle or Donna know ASAP. Webmaster: Not present Mr. V: Created a council to meet weekly. o Made up of students and Mr.V o Meet at lunch time. o Council meeting last Friday Dr. Gilroy did a workshop with the council. Gave some Ideas on what the council can do to plan the year. Band Council and String Council to cover the different bands. Talking about recruitment, instrument needs. Allows student to think outside the box to improve the program. Mr. V talked to the seniors about Bakersfield, not going to Finals and going to Magic Mtn. the next day. Will wait as long as possible to pull the trigger on that depending on performance. Mr. V is pushing MBA to keep both days of championship at the same sites to eliminate the morning performances. o Reasoning was that in the past they either did not make Grand Championships, or they were not in a position to truly compete. Last year the students did not get to bed until 12:30 and had to be back up at 5:30 to perform at 10 am. They looked defeated before they performed. o Dwayne Roberts discussed that the incentive of Magic Mountain may be a deterrent to do the best performance. Mr. V said that he thinks that most people will inherently do their best regardless. o The discussion for Magic Mountain will continue. Students to decide on how they would like to approach it in the next few weeks. Classes were weird the last week. Mr. V gave guidance a list of which bands the students were supposed to be place in. It was messed up for 68 of the students. They are doing their best to fix

it. There may be a couple of Freshmen in the Wind Ensemble 2 band, and a couple of Sophomores in the Freshman Band. Wind Ensemble 1 received news yesterday. o Last year we sent in an audition for the State CMEA. o The organization picked Enochs as one of the bands to perform. At Sonoma State-4/12/19 Waiting for a couple festival dates, but then will have the calendar set Will have a concert with Delta college. o Will use their facilities to audition for Nationals in Indianapolis. MIV-Hosted by just Enochs. All the money made will go to Enochs. Have 8 field bands (Three 5A bands coming-james Logan, Live Oak, Foothill), 3 or 4 parade bands. Clarification on missing class, practices or performances: ie: Funerals. o There are make-up assignments. The students have 3 days to request a make-up assignment for a missed event/practice. o This is treated the same as any other class on campus. Students have to request the make-up work and then turn it in. MB & Color Guard- 3 absences and you are no longer in the program. This is to protect the integrity of the program. o 1 absence could potentially be over the course of 3 consecutive days if it is the same illness that is keeping the student out of school/practice. Appropriate Attire: PE Shorts, and a shirt. Color has not been decided yet. Black was worn last year. o Dwayne -only 75% wear the dress code. o Mr.V- no shirtless students or sports bras. Should be school appropriate and modest. Question-Who do I seek information from for the Color Guard dress code/information? o David-Color Guard instructor Question-When do we want students fitted for uniforms? o By the 29 th for the Parent Performance. o Who is in charge of uniforms? Doug and Denise Stucker Almost all students are sized Next step is to try on the uniforms, assign them and take them home. If a student was not here for the sizing day. Make arrangements with Doug to be sized during one of the practices. We will cross reference who has been sized to make sure we have gotten to all of the students. o If you do not hear from us about the uniform sizing, please contact us to check in. Jessica Walker for John Walker: would like Mr.V to let the students know what is happening with the scaffolding on the field. OSHA said it was too unstable. The District fixed it. Custodians took the stairs off because of compliance. John made sure that the scaffolding became a priority to fix the issues. It is now fixed, and those using it are to be trained on appropriate use.

Mr. V brought it to the District Board that Band Coaches should be paid by the district just like Athletic Coaches. o Also, he would like to have it that the district pays for some of the transportation for the events. It was this way in the past. o Want Band and Orchestra students to be treated the same as any other groups on campus. o Thank you to John Walker for all he does to support the Band. Use Modesto City Schools email to get ahold of Mr. V o Gmail does not work when on the school wi-fi. Other Business: Parking: o Do not park in the loading/ unloading zone during school hours. Color Guard: o Already addressed above Next Meeting: 9/18/18 @ 7 pm o Moved from 9/11/18 because of Back to School Night. o Practicing at Downey on 9/18. o Location to be determined. Look for a reminder notice that will include the location. Kristen is trying to get a room at Downey to meet. If we cannot meet at Downey, we will meet in the Drama Room at Enochs. Meeting Adjourned @ 8:28 pm
