2013 Boys' Tennis Weekly Highlights Week 6 The boys tennis team concluded the regular season with a match on Monday, May 6th against Illiana Christian High School. The frosh-soph team netted a 2-2 draw, while the varsity fell 0-7. The frosh-soph team was led by freshman Ben Pollock, who took on the challenge of 1st singles, filling in for fellow newcomer Luke Suprenant, and gutted out a tight win against Illiana's best player. The was undermanned without sophomore 1st doubles player Andrew Pilewski and had to shift around their doubles lineups; the match of the day was at 2nd singles where sophomore Peter Pribyl Pierdinock lost in a third set tiebreaker to a quality opponent. On Saturday, May 11th, the Bulldogs competed in the Metro Suburban Conference Championships. As a team, RBHS came in 6th place on both levels, but notable finishes included Elvis Begic (2nd place at frosh-soph 2nd singles), Peter Pierdinock (4th place at varsity 2nd singles) and JP Sengstock (4th place at 3rd singles). The Bulldogs will be setting their sectional lineup early in the week and will compete at Hinsdale Central High School Friday in an IHSA Sectional. The goal: win 2 rounds and compete at the IHSA State Meet on Thursday, May 23rd. Week 5 The boys tennis team had 1 match this week against the Elmwood Park Tigers on Tuesday, April 30th. Elmwood did not have a full roster on the lower level. We played matches at two different levels: 1st singles and 1st doubles. RB won convincingly at both positions, with Luke Suprenant playing singles and Elvis Begic/Joe Rogers playing together in doubles. On varsity, the Bulldogs dropped the match 2-5 as a team. Their individual victories came from Peter Pierdinock at 2nd singles and the team of Robby Filec/Brennan Ciborowski at 4th doubles. RBHS next competes at the conference tournament next Saturday. Week 4 The varsity boys finished the week 1-1 in duel matches by beating Fenton and losing to glenbard south. Both Peter pierdinock and jp sengstock were key to the Fenton victory, while the tandem of Jack Robling and Alex Muntean had a nice come from behind win at 3rd doubles against glenbard. This past Saturday the bulldogs took their top 6 players to compete at the brother rice crusader classic. First singles player Ryan gradishar took the consolation title by winning 3 of his 4 matches on the day. Rb next plays on Monday vs. St. Pats and Tuesday at Elmwood Park. Frosh/Soph The frosh soph bulldogs fell to Fenton and Glenbard South but are adjusting to having many inexperienced players. Freshman Ben Pollock and sophomore Luke Suprenant are the top two singles players and have shown the potential to work on the varsity level in a couple matches to close out the season. They will be counted on in the coming years to help reestablish bulldog tennis
Week 3 The boys tennis team played Nazareth Academy on Monday, April 8th. The bulldogs lost 0-7 on varsity and 2-3 on frosh-soph. Sophomore Jack Robling lost a tough 3 set match at varsity 3rd singles, while the frosh soph team was led by the play of Chris detloff and Brennan ciborowski. Week 2 On Wednesday, April 3rd, the boys varsity tennis team played host to the Addison Trail Blazers. The Bulldogs lost the match 2-5 but were led by wins by senior 1st singles player Ryan Gradishar and 2 newcomers to the varsity level: sophomores Robby Filec and Brennan Ciborowski at the 4th doubles position. There were several other hard fought matches, but the ball didn't bounce RB's way. On Thursday, April 4th, RB played at Timothy Christian for their first conference match in the Metro Suburban. Although they lost again 2-5, the Bulldogs were led by the gutsy performances of the 1st doubles team of Jimmy Rock and Andrew Pilewski and 3rd singles player JP Sengstock, all of whom pulled out 3 set wins over strong opponents. On Saturday, April 6th, the Bulldogs traveled to Leyden High School to compete in the Leyden Eagle Quad. While RB finished 4th overall, most positions went 1-2 on the day to earn points towards the team total. Freshman Ben Pollock competed at the varsity level for the first time at 4th doubles with his partner, sophomore Brennan Ciborowski. Sophomore Peter Pierdinock also stepped up to 1st singles on this day due to the absence of other members of the team and knocked off a tough competitor from invite champion Morton High School. RB competes next week on Monday, April 8th at home on both levels against Nazareth Academy. Come out and cheer on your Bulldogs! Week 1 The Bulldogs had their first match with Willowbrook High School on Friday, March 22nd. While the weather has been chilly to start the year, RB has an enthusiastic group of tennis players on both Frosh-Soph and levels.the lost 2-5 to Willowbrook and were led by the performances of their singles players. Senior Ryan Gradishar lost a 3-set match with his opponent, while sophomores Peter Pierdinock and Andrew Pilewski wore down their opponents to claim 1-0 starts to their seasons. The Bulldogs are relatively inexperienced yet promise to show tremendous growth over the course of the 2013 season. Frosh/Soph Frosh-Soph lost 0-6 to Willowbrook, but coach Fuller was encouraged by the play of numerous players that are just beginning competitive tennis. Freshman Ben Pollack and Sophomore Luke Suprenant lost hard-fought battles in their first respective matches.
