Saint Lucie Sailing Club The Log December 2018 Incorporated April 4, 1975 From the Commodore Hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. November also saw our annual membership party with lots of good food, music and dancing. Thanks to James and Debbie Arthur for their efforts to pull this together. We also had the popular Turkey Trot Regatta where the SLSC ladies get to show the rest of us how to drive a boat. Congrats to Barbara Jacobs of Whisper for the win. December sees the holiday season get underway in earnest. Our holiday party on the 8 th will feature ugly sweaters and a gift exchange. The final 12 pack race on the 1 st and the Commodore s Cup Regatta on the 15 th cap off the year of racing. Your bridge officers got together in November to map out plans for 2019 and welcome new Fleet Captain, Larry Bryant. There s lots of fun stuff coming up. In addition to a full racing calendar, there s the Locks Picnic and chili cook-off and a repeat of the Nettles Island cruise. We ll also be cruising to some new destinations and trying some Full Moon raft ups. Stay tuned for details. Should be an exciting year. Let s enjoy the cooler weather and have fun on the water! - Joe Sawyer, SLSC Commodore 1
Racing Scuttlebutt Mike Brescher - Jay Seeley - Jay Seeley On Saturday, November 17th the Turkey Trot Women s Race was sailed in the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. The winds were out of the northeast at six to ten kts. That gave almost perfect wind to the skippers. The boats crowded up at the first mark (OCB) as "Adagio (with all women crew) rounded and lead the fleet when they had an accident causing them to drop out. The fleet started to spread out on the course with Whisper leading and fleet close on their stern. Wild Rice and Voyager were changing positions throughout the course with an extreme close finish. This makes for great racing. The day turned out to be beautiful and making for a fun race. The Finishers: Cruising J&M Fleet are: 1 st WHISPER with Barbara Jacobs at 59min 00sec. 2 nd VOYAGER with Barbara Goldberg at 1hr 16min 10sec 3 rd WILDRICE with Asta Poirier at 1hr 20min 12sec. 4 th ADAGIO with Katherine Neurohr - DNF 5 th ANGELINA with Anna - DNF The Turkey Trot Perpetual Trophy was awarded to Barbara Jacobs on WHISPER. This makes Barbara one of the fastest ladies in the Club. I am sure everyone enjoyed this race as much as I did. Thank you ladies for some great sailing! The COMMODORE S CUP Regatta will be December 15th on the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. In this race the men will be allowed to helm the boats and the ladies are allowed to tell them how to win. - Jay Seeley 2
12-Pack Update Raced November 3, 2018 - Mike Diamond - M. Brescher - Jay Seeley The November 12 Pack race (11-3-18) had a strong breeze and 8 competitors. The club had a great race with several boats bunched up at various marks. We had a few first timers for the 2018 series and a little confusion with the #1 mark (which is missing the green #1). Order of finish: Gang of Four, Freedom, My Weigh, Wild Rice, Sloop John B, Adagio, Angelina, William Bligh The last 12 Pack for 2018 is scheduled for 12-1-18 and if the weather is nice - let s try to raft up! - Jay Seeley - M. Brescher 3
