Newsletter January 2019 Advanced registration is required for all SMP trips, events & volunteer opportunities. Program events are open only to single Marine and Sailors stationed on Camp Pendleton. Participants who volunteer must register in advance with SMP HQ in order to receive a letter of appreciation. Volunteers must provide their own transportation except for PE fitness Challenge. A signed command permission slip is required for all SMP activities. All activities depart from Semper Fit Headquarters Bldg. 1253. Unless otherwise stated and require that participants utilize the provided transportation. Upcoming SMP Meetings, Trips and Special Events 01/09 MCAS Camp Pendleton & MAG-39 Council Meeting monthly meeting will be held at 1200 at Hall of Heroes Bldg. 2368 01/10 Camp Pendleton Installation SMP Council Meeting monthly meeting will be held at 1330 at Paige Fieldhouse Classroom. 02/06 MCAS Camp Pendleton & MAG-39 Council Meeting monthly meeting will be held at 1200 at Hall of Heroes Bldg. 2368 02/07 Camp Pendleton Installation SMP Council Meeting monthly meeting will be held at 1330 at 21 Area SMP Rec Center. Bldg. 21704 01/01 - Polar Bear Plunge - 1100 at Del Mar Beach Resort, take a quick dip in the Pacific Ocean to celebrate the New Year. Costumes are encouraged! The DJ will kick off the plunge at noon. Ramone s Cantina will provide FREE hot cocoa, coffee, and breakfast burrito per participants. Register at Del Mar Beach day of the event. 01/11 Iron Mountain Hike - This trip is only $5.00 per person, pre-registration is required to plan for food. Group departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253 at 0700. Registration currently open & ends Jan 8 th or until full. 02/02 Big Bear Trip $80.00 includes transportation, lift ticket, gear rental, & a two-hour optional lesson. Participants may choose to ski or snowboard. Departure from Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253 at 0430. Registration opens Jan 8 th & ends Jan 30 th or until full. Please make sure to complete all forms at registration. 02/09 Super Cross Trip $20.00 per person includes transportation & entry into Supercross. Departure from Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253 at 1500. Registration opens Jan 11 th & ends Feb 6 th or until full. 02/15-18 San Francisco Trip - $160 PER PERSON INCLUDES TRANSPORTATION & THREE NIGHT STAY IN DOWNTOWN San Francisco. Departure from Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253 at 0700. Registration opens Jan 17 th & ends Feb 9 th.or until full. SMP Volunteer Opportunities Retirement Home Visits Have dinner with the residents. Bravos are the requested uniform for these events. Max of 6-10 volunteers needed for each opportunity. Each event begins at 1600. 01/08 - Rancho Vista Retirement Home 01/09 - Pacific Place Retirement Home 01/30 - Fairwinds Retirement Home 01/09 & 01/30-1000 Base Stables Volunteer Day Camp Pendleton Stables, Bldg. 1516. Participants will help clean & groom horses, clean stalls, & help with general maintenance at the stables. Uniform of the day is civilian attire. Closed toed shoes are required. A maximum of 10 participants are needed for this opportunity. Participants must sign up prior to the event. Bring water! 01/25 & 02/22 PE Fitness Challenge - Volunteers will host an all-day fitness challenge at an on-base school. All volunteers must meet at Semper Fit Headquarters at 0630. Please eat breakfast before you arrive. Dress attire is the Marine Corps Running Suit with green PT shorts and plain skivvy shirt underneath. Lunch will be provided. 40 volunteers needed.
