CELEBRATING 23 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Chicago Chapter - American Singles Golf Association - May 2015 Message from the President It is nice to finally be able to say that golf season is upon us! We have a number of new members and many returning members from last year, so we are looking forward to a fantastic season. 1. WE NEED EVENT COORDINATORS: It appears that we have a few events where we do not have anyone stepping up to coordinate. Sadly, if we can t get a coordinator for an event, we will have to either postpone or cancel an event. If you have been a member for some time, and have not ever coordinated, we urge you to consider being a coordinator for an event. It is very easy to do and you can always get some assistance from a friend. Please contact Patsy Albrecht to volunteer to be a coordinator. 2. Welcome New Members: To any new members we are glad you joined ASGA. Golf can be an intimidating sport by itself, and I encourage you to relax and enjoy the day and hopefully meet and make some new friends. It s not life or death, it s just golf. 3. Pace of Play: No matter what level your game, please always try to be aware of the players ahead of you and the players behind you. If you don t ever see the ones ahead, but always watching the ones behind waiting, then it is probably time to consider the question: How can I pick up my pace of play? Please check out the While We re Young pledge on the USGA website for tips that help you understand how to avoid these situations. 4. Club Championship: The Board of Directors has determined that in order to qualify to play in the ASGA club championship, any participant should play 3 or more events in that year, and the player s dues must be current. I will see you all on the course soon. ~Dave Colbert Past Events 2015 Masters Party Hosted by Keith Reifel and Nancy Hill. Thank you so much for hosting. Everyone had a wonderful time, great food and fun to socialize again after a long winter! Can we reserve the downstairs seats for next year? 2015 Survey Results In March our Golf Chairs, Patsy Albrecht and Robin Rash, sent out a survey to our members asking a variety of questions designed to gather information which will be used to enhance our current schedule of golf events. Survey results showed that on Sundays an earlier start time would be preferred. Also, 16 of the 20 courses that were selected as courses our members would definitely play have already been scheduled for 2015. A few courses were eliminated based on survey results and lack of turnout in previous consecutive years. 64% of women said they would participate in the 2015 Club Championship as long as the course was of reasonable length and difficulty. Thanks Patsy and Robin for putting the survey together! Heidel House Resort 643 Illinois Avenue Green Lake, WI. 54941 **Space is limited to 20 Rooms** DATES: Friday, July 31 Sunday, August 2 For those who went last year, our weekend was abruptly ended by storms that blew through the area during Sunday's golf. The golf course did provide rain checks for 9 holes at a value of $42.50. Many of you have already been given them as we scattered that day, but some of you have not. I have a list of those I still owe. You will see below how the rain checks are factored into the costs. The rain checks have no expiration date, and can be transferred to anyone going on this year's trip. Indicate whether your commitment is for double or single occupancy. A $200.00 deposit is required before Monday, June 15, 2015. Please send a check made payable to ASGA to: Tom Ullsperger 16045 Forest Avenue Oak Forest, IL 60452 Should you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Tom via e-mail or phone (708) 508-1045. Important Information For Any Member or Guest Who Will Be Attending an Outing A guest of any ASGA outing may play (1) one time, after which they are required to join ASGA before playing another outing. If you cancel after the signup deadline, you may have to still pay for the round. This will happen if there is no one from a waiting list that can replace you and you were unable to find a replacement and the course holds us to our committed headcount. If you signup but don't show up to play, you may have to pay for the round. Again this is if the course makes ASGA pay for you. Pairings will be done the week prior to the outing and you will notified by the coordinator of your time and partners. If you have a special request, such as, being in one of the early times, inform the coordinator when you sign up. Once pairings are distributed they will be final. Again any specific requests should be given to the coordinator when you signup or before the signup deadline. The coordinator will do everything possible to accommodate requests made to the above guidelines. Everyone needs to be at the course at least a 45 minutes prior to your specific tee time. This will allow for check in time and golf preparation. If you are late for your tee time, your partners will start playing and you'll have to join them on the course. Everyone needs to be conscious of where their group is in respect to the group in front of (not behind) them. We all know what "keep pace means". Also, if a ranger asks you to speed up and you do not, you may be asked to leave the course. Remember slow play can really take the enjoyment out of the game.' Most outings will have an after golf dinner. If you signup to go to the dinner, please do so, unless you have provided

sufficient notification. The coordinators have usually made a reservation and it isn't fair to them to try to explain why some percentage of those committing didn't show up. Also, rain checks are the purview of the golf course, not ASGA. If you've got weather-related questions, call the course, not your coordinator.
