Box 33 Ashton, NE 68817 ashtonnecc@nctc.net ashtoncommunityclub.weebly.com 2018 ASHTON DAYS JUNE 29, 30 and JULY 1, 2018 A Y E A R I N R E V I E W A Casino Bus trip was held Sunday, October 8th. Residents and neighbors of Ashton rode a charter bus to Council Bluffs, IA. There was fun and games along the way and even more fun at the casino! CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES In the north room the brick wall has been sealed and a fire place was installed. Wainscoting is up on all the walls. Work was also completed on the back outside brick wall. We continue to work on painting all the walls in the north room. Fundraisers will be held during Ashton Days and throughout the year to help us complete the renovation. Donations can also be sent to the at PO Box 33, Ashton, NE 68817 ASHTON COMMUNITY CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS The awarded two scholarships this year. The following recipients will each receive a $500 scholarship. Ethan Goc, son of Mark and Sue Goc. Ethan will be attending Central Community College in Hastings studying Diesel Technology. Kinley Krzycki, daughter of Kevin Krzycki and Kelly Phillips. Kinley will attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney majoring in Accounting. Congratulations Ethan and Kinley! Halloween Party Princesses, ghosts and superheroes roamed the streets of Ashton on Halloween. Afterwards they gathered at the Legion to enjoy hot dogs and cupcakes. Decorated and carved pumpkin contests were held. Costume judging also took place. COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER A traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings was enjoyed by those attending. The dinner, provided by the Ashton Community Club was held on November 19th.

A Y E A R I N R E V I E W Christmas in the Village Ashton s Christmas celebration was held on Saturday, December 2nd. Santa arrived at the Legion welcomed by a host of young ones. Chili and hot dogs were served. Vendors gathered at the Legion. Horse and wagon rides were provided by Kevin Williams. Following Santa s visit, Oak Creek Saloon held a dance featuring the Chelewski Brothers. A Day at the Horse Races Ashton Day was held at Fonner Park on Sunday, March 19th. Ashton businesses that sponsored a race were: Maschka s Sausage Shop, Ksionzek Farms, Megan Ritz Photography, Oak Creek Saloon, Jakubowski Farms, Ashton Feed & Grain, Ashton State Bank and. Thank you to everyone that sponsored a race. Thank you to all those who came out and enjoyed the day at the races. A special Thank You to Jerome and Jeanette Siwinski for the beautiful Christmas tree they donated to the Legion. The Easter Bunny made a special stop in Ashton on Saturday, March 31st. Although the weather felt like winter the Easter Bunny still drew in a great crowd. Baked or not, fruit or pudding, cookie crumb crust or a rolled out flakey pie crust - we want them all. Bring your pies to the Ashton Community Center on Saturday July 1 st between 1:00 pm and 2:45 pm. There will be prizes awarded for first through third in the categories of Men, Women, and Youth (Under age 16). There will also be a Grand Champion selected from all the entrants. The fee for each pie entered is either $5 or a second pie of the same kind being entered in the contest. Pies will be judged on appearance (before and after slicing), taste, complexity and overall appeal. Stay for the free BBQ that evening and enjoy a piece of great pie for dessert. Winners of the pie contest will be announced with prizes awarded during a break in the festivities during the evening. Marcene Kaslon can be contacted at (308) 738-2134 for more information.

Come on out and test your farm and ranch skills and have a great time! 8TH ANNUAL TRACTOR PARADE POKER RUN Sunday, July 1st Registration from 11:30-1:00 at Roosevelt Park (Ball Field) The Tractor Parade will start at 1:00 at the Ball Field and end back at the Legion in Ashton. All tractors welcome both old and new. ASHTON S 4th ANNUAL RANCH RODEO Saturday, June 30th Check in at 12:00pm Calcutta begins at 12:30pm To sign up call: Cody Kuszak 308-750-2154 Cole Kuszak 308-750-3633 Entries must be received by June 24th. Entry fee will be $200 cash per team. First 15 teams to call will be registered. 5th ANNUAL POLISH STEEPLECHASE Walk, run or bike between the Steeple at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Paplin and the Steeple at St. Francis Church in Ashton (5.2 miles). Non-competitive, just have a good time. Saturday, June 30, 2018 Check in starts at 6:00am in Ashton and event will begin at 7:00am in Paplin and will finish back in Ashton.
