Poultry Chain If you are interested in participating in the poultry chain this year, please sign up by March 1st. You must call the Extension Office at (870) 368-4323 to sign up. With the poultry chain you will get approximately 25 birds to take home. Four of these birds will be brought back to the County Fair where they will be auctioned off for the annual Poultry Chain Fundraiser which funds this program along with other county programs. This year we are going to order the Amberlink Birds. They are a brown layer who are large bodied, docile birds and are fantastic egg layers. Rooster can be purchased for a $1.00. If you wish to order one please let us know when you place your order. All orders must be received by March 1st. Everybody who signs up to participate in the poultry chain will have to attend a mandatory workshop this year to learn about proper care of your birds, a date for this workshop will be set at a later time. Garden Project The Izard County Masters Gardeners will host a workshop on March 8th at 6pm at Ozarka College Student Center. You must RSVP for this workshop by February 22nd to the County Extension Office. You will receive points for attending the workshop in March so it s important for all project participants to attend. The Master Gardeners will be providing a meal that night as well, so come prepared to eat! You must be actively enrolled in 4-H Online to attend! Poster Art Contest It s time again for the Poster Art Contest! The contest is open to all 4-H members, the Junior and Senior entries will be sent on to the state contest as well. The top ten state winners will receive certificates, which will be presented at the District 4- H O-Ramas. The themes for 2016 are as follows: I Am 4-H Open theme (create a theme and poster to go with it) The deadline for this year's poster art contest will be Monday, April 4th, 2016 to the County Extension Office. All posters will be displayed at the County Dairy Foods Contest on April 9th. New Employee We are very please to announce that we have a new employee here with us at the Extension Office! Christy Tomlinson started on January 19th and she will be our new Administrative Specialist. If you get a chance, please stop by the Extension Office to meet her! We are very happy to have her with us.

Spring District Livestock Show The Spring District Livestock Show will be March 24 & 25 at the Izard County Fairgrounds. Izard County 4-H is doing the concession stand again this year. They are now accepting online entries through March 10th for the Livestock Show. The schedule has changed some, it s on the NCA District Fair Website. The money raised from the concession stand will go to support program done in Izard County and to help support kids as they go to state camps. If you are willing and available to help us man this concession stand please let us know. We do need somebody to grill on Thursday if anybody is available for that please let me know. We love for the older 4-H ers to help out, but they will need to be old enough to properly serve the food. There will always be an adult in the booth to collect money as well. 4-Hers this is great leadership/community service to put down in your record book that you helped work the concession stand as well! Thank you in advance for all of your help! 4-H 101 Workshops The 4-H 101 Workshop that was previously mentioned in the newsletters will be done at the already scheduled club meetings upon request. To schedule this workshop for your club meetings, contact Karla at the Extension Office. Club leaders, we also have O Rama kits that you can check out to prepare your 4-Hers for the upcoming O Rama activities! 4-H Day with the Arkansas Razorbacks! We wanted to extend this special opportunity to 4-H members, volunteers, friends and family of 4-H to attend the upcoming Arkansas Razorback Basketball game against South Carolina at Bud Walton Arena on Saturday, March 5 th 2016 @ 4:00 pm. Also go to 4-H online to sign up for the fan Tunnel! Community Service Opportunities We have a couple of community service opportunities to take part in this year. If you are interested in doing those, contact Karla at the Extension Office. The first project is collecting the pull tabs that we do every year. Money from the tabs towards helping a 4-H er that s in Children s Hospital and needs assistance paying their hospital bills. The second project is a new one for us this year. It s collecting gently used eyeglasses that will be donated to the Lyons Clubs this summer at the National Ag Agents Meetings. Members will set up drop-off locations throughout the county to participate in this project. If you are interested in doing this, contact Karla by the end of February. We have flyers made for the boxes and we need to know where all of the locations are throughout the county. 4-H ers will be responsible for manning the eyeglasses sites. Glasses will be brought to the Extension Office where we can get them turned in at various state events that will be help throughout the year.

Here s the dates for the 4-H Camps this summer at the Arkansas 4-H Center in Ferndale, AR. Ferndale is located west of Little Rock. These camps are a great opportunity for your 4-Her to meet kids across the state, and they will have a blast at these camps. If funds are available, the county will help what we can on the camp fees. However, you need to apply for the camp scholarship that s in 4-H online asap. We will also have a county day camp this summer as well, the dates for that haven t been set yet. With the Cloverbud camp a parent/guardian must attend with the kids. Also with the JR camp and Adventure challenge, one adult has to attend for every 8 kids, so keep that in mind. All adults must go through a background check and there is a $10.00 charge now for these checks. If you think you might be interested in going to camp or any state activity, register now in 4-H online because it takes 4 to 6 weeks sometimes to get the background checks back. For more information or if you have any questions about these camps, feel free to contact us at the Extension Office.
