Prep School Hobbies Please indicate which hobby you would like your child to participate in by ticking the appropriate box on the Booking Form. Costs quoted in the brochure are based on a 15:45/16:50 finish and are shown with and without ASCAPS (After School Care Advance Payment Scheme). Hobbies will commence on Monday 23 April 2018 and finish on Wednesday 4 July 2018 with exceptions where stated. For termly hobbies your child will be expected to commit to the hobby for the whole term. If your child does not attend a hobby for any reason or chooses to cancel the hobby part way through the term NO refund will be given in respect of any missed sessions. Please be advised that hobbies will only run if there are sufficient numbers. Please return the booking form to the School Office, or alternatively email the form (remembering to state which class/form your child is in) to hobbies@taverhamhall.co.uk no later than: Friday 23 March 2018 Bookings received after this date CANNOT secure a place for week commencing 23 April or the remainder of the term. Monday After School Club Y3 & Y4 After School Club offers a range of activities including supervised outdoor play and can be booked on a regular or adhoc basis during the term by contacting the School Office. Den Building with Mr Conway Y3 & Y4 Get crafty in the woods and build your very own den using branches, leaves and twigs to build a wonderful woodland hideout. Ballet & Tap Y3 & Y 4 Encouraging children to use their imagination while learning basic ballet & tap skills based on the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) syllabus. Developing ballet and tap techniques, co-ordination, musicality, balance, posture and rhythm. This will be a regular club, eventually leading to examinations. Children will need to wear black plimsolls for the first few sessions, but will then need to buy appropriate clothing (please see list overleaf). Due to the uniform requirement for this hobby, priority will be given to those previously registered. Minimum number: 10 Maximum number: 20 Cost: 91 per term (9 weeks) or 27 with ASCAPS Fishing with Mr Crossley and Mr Edwards Y5 to Y8 Join Mr Crossley and Mr Edwards at Taverham Mill. We have some fishing equipment available to hopefully accommodate complete novices. Please note the later finish time of 18:30 Maximum number: 15 Cost: 9.15 per session or 3.05 per session with ASCAPS (9 weeks) Athletics with Mr Martin and City of Norwich Athletics Club Y5 to Y8 Coaching from Mrs Newton, a City of Norwich Athletics Club Coach, to develop technique in preparation for Athletics meetings during the term. Cost: 82 per term (9 weeks) or 27 per term with ASCAPS. Handball with Mr Ling Y5 to Y8 Handball is a modern high speed ball game where players pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. As well as being able to exercise together, children can improve their basic motor skills, coordination and social skills; and develop specific game concepts such as team spirit and fair play. Tuesday Hama Bead Hobby with Mrs Rust Y3 & Y4 Create designs and patterns from Hama Beads - choose your particular design or use your own imagination! Select a pegboard and choice of coloured beads and away you go! It s as simple as that. Junior Gymnastics with Mrs Hood Y3 & Y4 Come and enjoy some fun gymnastics including floor skills, routines, small apparatus and rhythmic gym, culminating in a display for your parents to enjoy. Maximum number: 20 Cost: 91 per term (10 weeks) or 30 with ASCAPS. Junior Warhammer Club with Mr Sayer Y3 & Y4 Warhammer is the world s leading tabletop game. Players battle using miniature models and practise their Maths skills by adding up dice rolls. We will focus on Warhammer 40,000 which sees different armies fight against each other for control of the galaxy. In the club, pupils will assemble, paint and play with the models. There will also be opportunities to create and paint scenery for use in the battles. Maximum number: 7 Cost: 71 per term (10 weeks) or 10 with ASCAPS Table Tennis with Mr George Luong Y3 & Y4 and Y5 to Y8 Learn correct technique, the tactics and practise playing against opponents, George and even the ball machine. Maximum number: 12 Cost: 91 per term (10 weeks) or 30 with ASCAPS. Senior Gymnastics with Mrs Hood Y5 to Y8 Come along and enjoy developing your gymnastics skills and compose your own routines for a display to share with your parents. Thursday Junior Supported Prep with Mrs Hearn Y3 & Y4 An enjoyable Junior Prep session in which Mrs Hearn will be on hand to assist Year 3 and 4 pupils with their prep. Where possible school resources will be used to support the children s learning. Maximum number: 6 Junior Lego Club with Mrs Howe Y3 & Y4 Release your inner builder and use plastic bricks in a variety of colours and sizes to assemble and create models of almost anything imaginable. Did you know that the world s tallest LEGO tower is 28.7m high and is made with 465,000 bricks...the challenge is on!! Maximum number: 15 Cheerleading with Norfolk Cheer Athletics Y3 & Y4 and Y5 to Y8 All-star cheerleading combines stunting, gymnastics, jumps and dance. It helps build self-esteem and promotes self-discipline, team work and commitment. This hobby welcomes boys and girls, places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment. Please note this hobby will not run on Thursday 21 June. Minimum number: 10 Maximum number: 15 Cost: 81 per term (8 weeks) or 32 with ASCAPS. Tennis with Mr Stocker 3 & Y4 and Y5 to Y8 From novice to experienced player, the tennis coaching team will help develop your child s tennis skills, serving and match play. Maximum number: 12 Cost: 91 per term (9 weeks) or 36 with ASCAPS. Football with Community Sports Foundation Y3 & Y4 and Y5 to Y8 For football enthusiasts, this hobby aims to develop football skills and game play in a range of competitive and skills-based sessions. Run by external, qualified coaches. Minimum number: 12 Maximum number: 18 Cost: 96 per term (9 weeks) or 41 with ASCAPS. Rock Band Hobby with Mr Hamilton Y5 to Y8 Rock Band Hobby is for competent musicians willing to learn a piece of music in their own time. Numbers may be limited and priority will be given to those who learn an instrument at school. Maximum number: 5
Thursday Senior Art with Mr Edwards Y5 to Y8 An opportunity to develop independent art projects or create portfolio work for post Year 8. Maximum number: 12 Cost: 6.10 per session or no charge with ASCAPS Senior Golf with Mr Hyatt Y7&8 ONLY Maximum number: 13 Instruction with a Golf Professional at Wensum Valley Golf Driving Range. All equipment will be provided and no previous experience is necessary. Cost: 82 per term (9 weeks) or 27 with ASCAPS Senior Chess with Mr Willis Y5 to Y8 A two-player fun strategy board game that is played by millions of people worldwide. Each player begins with 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns, with the most powerful being the queen and the least powerful the pawn. The objective is to checkmate the opponent s king by placing it under an inescapable threat of capture. It is a game that develops good strategic thinking and forward planning, both valuable skills that can help throughout life. Canoeing Hobby with Mr Forsey Y3 & 4 and Y5 to Y8 Pupils will undertake BCU Paddlepower Start an entry-level award suitable as an introduction to paddlesport and progress on to Paddlepower Passport progressive levels based on 24 topics (grouped into Safety Awareness, Paddling Skills, Varied Experiences and Supporting Knowledge). The scheme provides progression and rewards achievement in a wide range of topics. This course includes lots of fun and exciting games as well as the opportunity to get wet! Friday Junior Fun Swim Session with Mrs Heatley Y3 & Y4 This will be an activity for any children wanting to have fun in the pool.
