CELEBRATING 18 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Palm Springs Chapter - American Singles Golf Association March 2011 From the President We had an extra special Valentine s Day celebration at Palm Desert Resort for our February social. Thanks to Social chair Nancy Hedloff and membership chair Bo Fleming for all their work decorating tables and making the place so festive. This month we are going to the Oasis Country Club and Organic Sol will be back to entertain us, so mark your calendar. The Palm Springs Chapter is moving into the 21 st Century. Yes, we are joining Meet Up.com. We are asking all members with email to log onto Meet Up and register. If you haven t already, please go to www.meetup.com/asgapalmsprings and register. Chapter golf outings and the social will be posted there and Meet Up will automatically send you reminders. You can easily RSVP to make your reservation using Meet Up. ASGA Members from other chapters who want to receive Palm Springs information can also register on our Meet Up site and they too will automatically receive reminders of the Palm Springs events. The Meet Up is being paid for by ASGA national and our board has decided to give it a try. It appears to be a great way to find new members as 11 people have registered on the site and they aren t even ASGA members. They were surfing for golf groups and found us. I want to give a special Thank You to our member Marlene Goff who has been instrumental in getting this site up and running for us. The entrance to the club is on Hovely Dr. directly across the street from Indian Ridge. Cost is $30 for members and $35 for guests. Music will be provided by Organic Sol who was very well received at the January social. Reservations are necessary, as are cancellations. Please reserve early. The course was somewhat soft, due to the previous days rain. Larry's drive embedded half way up the approach slope to the par-3 green. Larry wanted to lift and clean his ball and take a free drop. Scott, another member of the foursome said heck no, he specifically recalled reading a rule prohibiting relief for a ball in a pitch mark. Was Larry entitled to relief? What is the correct ruling? A. Assuming that Larry did not need to lift the ball for identification, no, he can not lift the ball, and even if lifted for identification, he could not clean the ball. The old play the ball as it lies rule pertains. B. Scott is half way correct, there is no relief if your ball is in a pitch-mark that was not of your making...a ball mark made by another golfer. But that does not pertain in this instance. C. Yes Larry is entitled to relief. Larry does not have to play his ball as it lies. His ball was embedded in its' own pitch mark.
