PREZ SEZ September Now that summer is over that means our 25th Annual Corvette Show is just around the corner. I know that meeting participation has been slow but now that we only have 2 meetings before the show, I would hope that everyone is excited and working on those door prizes and selling those raffle tickets and sponsorships. If you have any paperwork on money to turn in, please come to the meeting so we can get all that straight. Our next meeting will be Thursday, October 2 at 7pm at Service Chevrolet. This is the first Thursday, because Cruising the Coast is the following week and a lot of our members go to that and we need the extra time for last minute show prep. If you haven t volunteered for a job at the show, contact Tom Diermann and let him know what you can help with. October 3 is the last date for any sponsors name to be on printed material for the shirts, plaques or paperwork, so please make sure Tom has all the information to give to the printers so no one is left out. Mark your calendar for Friday October 24th for our Stuffing Party at the Harley shop. We will do the usual stuffing of the ditty bags and show prep and want everyone that can to come out and help with all the last minute details. We will talk about this at the meeting and have something in the next newsletter too. Reminder that the GNOCC show is the Saturday Oct 18th, one week before our show and they are big supporters of our show but they need some reciprocation, so please make a plan to support their show by attendance or making a contribution. Our next newsletter will have info on when and where we will meet as a club to drive to Slidell on that Saturday. Went to meet the Museum Caravan coming into Jennings for a meet and greet before they took off for Bowling Green and saw some 110 Corvettes lining the dealership and the streets of that small town. Those townspeople didn t know what hit them. Quite a beautiful site to see all those Corvettes. Check out our article on it. As is in our by-laws, our annual meeting will be held Thursday November 13, 2014 at 7pm at Service Chevrolet for our election of club officers. Nominations will be accepted at the October 2 meeting so if you want to nominate someone, you must put their name on the ballot on October 2. Board members will not be on the ballot since they were elected for 2 year positions, but we will be accepting nominations for Pres, VP, Sec, Treas- Membership, Newsletter and Activities. Hope to see you at the meeting Thursday, September 11 at Service Chevrolet. Maxie

It is almost SHOW TIME!!!!! The show will be here before you know it, just 7 weeks away. Your Sponsor Forms need to be back to me by September 30th. There are sponsorships from $500.00 to $50.00 ones. That will give Sun Sport enough time to get everything printed on the shirts and plaques. Let s get out and beat the bushes for those sponsors. I would like to thank all those who have already sent their forms in. The more sponsors that we have the more the club will give to New Hope. Tickets sale are coming in slow, if you have sold your tickets and need more please contact me and we will get them to you. I will have the tickets at this month s meeting. Don t forget about the items for the diddy bags. If you or the company where you work may have pens, pads, chip clips etc. with your company logo, those would be good items for the diddy bags. I think we have one of the best diddy bags around. We have rice and Tabasco, so all we would need is some beans and we would have a meal. Don t forget about the door prizes, one for a man and one for a woman. Tom D 99coupe@bellsouth.net
Corvette Caravan Stop in Jennings 110 of the most beautiful Corvettes were on display at Oustalet Chevrolet on Main Street in Jennings Saturday, August 23 rd. Maxie and I in our 65, Ken and Julie in their 2014 and Tom and Vicki in their 2014 made a small but fast caravan to the Jennings exit on I-10 where we met Jeryl Bertrand in his 64 coupe. We got there before the caravan arrived and were in a perfect spot to check it all out. They arrived with police escort and soon filled the lot and the street, did I say they had 110 cars in their group. Rick and Bettie Louviere soon arrived and BSCC did have a presence. The dealership had boudin, jamabalaya for 400 people, cold drinks, cake, air conditioning and plenty of Cajun hospitality for everyone. We stayed for a couple of hours and when the caravan took off we were in their midst and I thought great we will get to cruise with them, but with the speeds that everyone was driving we hardly saw any Vettes at all until we exited at Lafayette and they passed us by. Thanks for those that attended from the club. I know we will be getting an article from someone in the club that attended the event at the museum and I am sure they will have a good story or two. BSCC Member Spotlight Darryl Dodd My name is Darryl Dodd. I moved to Lafayette in 1986 to work for Petroleum Helicopters. When I learned that Maxie and Cindy were forming a Corvette club I joined as one of the original members. My introduction to Corvettes was when I was 14 years old. I visited my cousin and he had the July 1974 issue of Hot Rod magazine. It was a special "all Corvette" issue. I was hooked! I got my 1 st Corvette when I was 19. A 1964 conv. with factory A/C. Currently I own two Corvettes. A 1964 two-top conv. that I traded a 56 Corvette for in 1991. As I write this it is being repainted the orig. Silver Blue. By the time you read this it will be done. The other one is a 1969 Baldwin Motion Phase m GT. I traded a73 Corvette for it in 1988. Shortly after purchasing it and after a lot of research I had it documented through Joel Rosen of Motion Performance. He confirmed it as 1 of 12 Phase III GT's built between 1969-1971. After dropping out of the club for many years I recently re-joined when I found out Maxie was returning and once again would be the Prez. FYI.after 40 years, I still have that July 1974 issue of Hot Rod magazine.
Bayou State Corvette Club Meeting Minutes August 14, 2014 Meeting was called to order. Members in attendance were Maxie and Cindy Rodriguez, Scotty and Melissa Quebodeaux, Terry Orgeron, Jack Wise, Vicki and Tom Diermann, Ken and Julie Turner, Louis and Julia Broussard, Thad and Jodie Lejeune, Darryl Dodd and our guest speaker was John Newman from New Hope Community Development of Acadiana, representing our charity for this year s show. Tom Diermank, VP and show chairman, gave a rundown on where we are with show prep and how everything is coming together. Terry Orgeron will be heading up our judging team for the show and discussed his plans for judging forms and trophy s. Tom handed out our 2014 car show raffle tickets to members that were present and said he would be mailing books of raffle tickets to those members that did not attend. Members were encouraged to start collecting their door prizes for the show and any goodie bag stuffers that they could. Melissa contacted over 30 vendors for stuffers and we will again have our night before the show stuffing party to prep everything. Members should bring their door prizes to the night before the show event. Jack and Ken talked about their upcoming trip with the National Corvette Museum Caravan that will be coming through Louisiana and joining with them on their drive to Bowling Green, Kentucky. On that note, we found out that Bubba Oustalet Chevrolet is Jennings is hosting a meet and greet on Saturday August 23 for about 100 Corvettes coming through Jennings on the tour. They are set to make it a two hour stop over and everyone is invited to come to see the cars. Will try to get a group from here to go. Jodie Lejeune asked for any shirt orders and money to be turned in since the deadline was approaching for our special club shirt order. She again explained about the difference in the shirts we are ordering. Mr. John Newman gave a short presentation about what donating to New Hope means for their organization. As a club, let s all support our show in order to help this cause. 50/50 raffle was won by Vicki Diermann. She won $26. Meeting was adjourned at 8:00pm and a group went to Coyote Blues for dinner.
