Village Green Bowls Club October 2010 Page 1 Greetings Fellow Lawn Bowlers Message From The President At our Christmas Party/Annual Meeting this year we will once again bring up the matter of changing one of our By-Laws. Article IX states: "The Annual Meeting shall be held the first Monday in December". The Board would like to change that to: "The Annual Meeting shall be held sometime from the first through the tenth of December." This past July we were informed by Good Sam s that they were canceling our December 6th reservation due to a Fall remodeling project. At that same time, Balboa, Desoto, and the Granada Clubs all were in transition and couldn't tell us when they would again be open. The cost at the Tranquillo Restaurant would be too high as they are not open on Mondays and they would have to bring in staff. (Ed. Note: We finally were able to book the meeting at the 19 th Hole Restaurant for Monday December 6 but the time has been changed to Noon that day.) The Board asks your thoughtful consideration of this request, which would give us the flexibility we need to find a suitable accommodation. This request will be posted at the Club House for 30 days before our Annual Meeting as required. We look forward to seeing all of you at the 19th Hole at noon on Dec. 6th. Respectfully, Your President, Bonnie Clark VGBC 2010 BOARD President: Bonnie Clark 915-9974 V. President: Charles Lewis 922-1406 Secretary: Carole Wilson 922-1029 Treasurer: John Goodwin 922-1676 League Play: Del Scheid 922-0281 Rod Annis 915-8819 Publicity Dave Rider 915-0489

Village Green Bowls Club October 2010 Page 2 Annual Business Meting and Christmas Party Our annual business meeting and Christmas Party is scheduled for Monday December 6, 2010 at Noon at the 19 th Hole Restaurant at the Desoto Golf Course. Please note that the location and time changed for this year! The menu choices this year are Chicken Supreme with mushroom sauce or Pork Loin with brown gravy. Each meal comes with a dinner salad, green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls, Red Velvet cake for dessert and coffee or tea. A cash bar is also available. Entertainment will be provided by the HSV Carousel Theater Group. It will be a fun day so plan on joining in on the festivities. Reservations need to be made by November 19. There is a form included in this issue for you to make your reservation and dinner selection. 2011 VGBC Membership Renewal It is now time to renew your club membership for 2011. Membership fees remain at $10 and a renewal form is included with the Christmas Party reservation in this issue of the Bias. Please fill out the form and return it with your check to our Treasurer John Goodwin. His address is included on the form. Note that because of the reservation and membership form, this issue of the Bias will be postal mailed to all members. VGBC Board of Directors Election As usual at our Annual Meeting in December, we will be electing three new board members who will be replacing outgoing members Bonnie Clark, Carol Wilson and Del Scheid. Bonnie Clark asked Sue O Neill and Jerry Brewer to serve as the nomination committee and they have nominated Connie Weidert, Sharon Sands and Jerry Brewer to fill these vacancies. The floor will be open to any other possible nominations at the annual meeting and then we will elect the new 2011 Board members. Membership List Included in this issue of is the club roster current as of this publishing. Notify Dave Rider or Carole Wilson of any address corrections.

These photos will be in the clubhouse and you can look through them and take any you would like. Senior Olympics The Hot Springs Village Lawn Bowling Club held the 2010 Arkansas Senior Olympics lawn bowling event on Thursday September 16, 2010 at the village lawn bowling rink. Due to a disappointing turnout, only two events were held, one for the men over 70 category and one for mixed pairs. The over 70 event was a ten end singles event with Earl Mulley scoring 7 points finishing first for the Gold medal honors while Andrew Jefferies came in second for Silver with 4 points and Dennis Zymboly with 2 points was third for Bronze. In the mixed pairs medal event it was the team of Dorie Hulsey and Del Scheid bowling against the team of Agnes Scheid and Lonnie Hulsey. This was an exciting 10 end match with the score tied at 5 apiece after nine ends. In the final end it was Dorie Hulsey who put two of her bowls closest to the jack for the win and the Gold medal honors. Interestingly, Dorie and Lonnie Hulsey are visiting Hot springs from Mississippi and entered several of the Arkansas Senior Olympics events being held this week in the Hot springs area. Neither of these two had ever played lawn bowling and decided it sounded like fun and signed up to try it. They both did quite well for beginner bowlers! Congratulations to all these winners.

This was a single elimination event with the final four survivors, Gayle Annis, Howard Davis, Charles Lewis and Earl Mulley, playing for the winning honors. In the semi finals Earl Mulley defeated Howard Davis while Charles Lewis outscored Gayle Annis In an overtime extra end tie breaker finish. In the final matchups it was Charles Lewis winning the competition over Earl Mulley and Gayle Annis defeating Howard Davis. The club is now preparing for the Arkansas Senior Olympics Tournament to be played on Thursday September 16. 2010 Arkansas Open Competitors
