Weekly Newsletter Monday 19 th February 2018 Dear Parents/Carers and Governors, Welcome back - I hope you all had a lovely break. We have a very busy half term and only six weeks till our next break. We would like to welcome Julie Cornelius, HR assistant, who has joined our office team. World Book Day: In line with World Book Day on 1 st March 2018 we are asking for the Children to come dressed as their favourite book character. Don t forget to bring along your favourite book too. We will also be inviting a real author into school on this day. Rachel Summers, who has been leading our Forest School sessions has written a book called Wild Lent and will talking to the children about it during the day. There will also be an opportunity to take part in some of the activities outlined in the book. Look out for Rachel and her family on Songs of Praise shown on Sunday 11 th February through BBC iplayer. Book Fair: St Saviour s book fair will start on Thursday 22 nd March and will take place within our School Hall before and after school. Please ensure you come and have a look at the discounted books, each book we sell we receive a donation towards the school. Clubs: A reminder that our clubs will finish on Friday 23 rd March 2018. A new club letter will be sent out to parents/carers via Parentmail the first week back after the Easter Term. Assembly week commencing 19.02.18 Our assembly theme this week links with our school Christian value of: Faith Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. 1 John 5:5 Improving lateness/attendance: During assembly today I thanked our children for the improvement I have seen on lateness. I reminded them to help you out at home to ensure that they leave with enough time to get to school. Our school attendance target is 96.5% and last half term we were able to send out over 80 certificates for children that are currently on 100% attendance. I m sure we can add more children for 100% attendance this half term. Shining Stars w/c 19.02.18: Rec Elm: David Stan Rec Willow: Hai Qin Guan Year 1 Oak: Maliah Pascal Year 1 Birch: Adegboyega Ademola Year 2 Elm: Coleena Hall Year 2 Willow: Mia Chester-Coote Year 3 Oak: Jun Chun Huang Year 3 Birch: N/A Year 4 Elm: Emmanuella Ntumba Year 4 Willow: Michael Soe Year 5 Oak: Darcie Wynter Year 5 Birch: Kayisha Gravillis- Carbon Year 6 Elm: Romana Savu Year 6 Willow: Jakub Zurek & Dylan Appiah What have we been learning in Year 4: Over the past few weeks, Year 4 have been having fun learning about food processes in topic and the digestive system and teeth in science. For our topic of 'Food Glorious Food' we tasted a pizza made by a restaurant, evaluated it and then designed our very own pizza. This culminated with both classes making their very own pizzas! In science, we learnt about the journey our food takes and which organs play such vital roles in the digestion process. This week, we began to find out more about our teeth and what foods and products can do to them. We did this by leaving eggs in coke for an entire week (yuk!) and then we experimented with toothpastes to find which one was best for removing stains/bacteria. This term, we're looking forward to our science museum visit and a visit from the Warburtons Bakery Company! Parents Open Week: We still have a few spaces left for our parent open week, if you are interested in attending please email Miss Price (louise.price@stsaviours.waltham.sch.uk) with the date and time. Best wishes, Mrs Munden Headteacher

St Saviour s Book Fair The Book Fair will be coming to St Saviour s on Thursday, 22 nd March 2018 It will be open from 8:30 9:00 in the morning, and 3:30 4:00 after school. It will finish on Tuesday, 29 th March 2018 Do come along and choose a book. The more books we sell, the more money we raise for our school. See you there!
