Big Sir Comments Big Sir Comments March, Well, so much for the spring-like weather we were experiencing when I drafted my April Comments. I guess Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow last month! Hopefully it won t be long before we can golf without parkas or rain slickers. We had an excellent turn-out for our April luncheon. Over 100! A great big thanks to our members who made room for our new Branch 107 transferees. And, especially to those who gave up their seats and moved to a small table! The Elks #6 volunteer serving ladies also did a great job accommodating all of those present. I applaud you all for being so friendly and welcoming to our soon-to-be new members. We still don t have the exact number of Branch 107 transferees as this goes to press, but we estimate it will be between 30 and 40 new Branch 93 members! Don Quesenberry and John Dailey, our Membership Committee Chair and Asst. Chair, are working feverishly as I speak to process Transfer Requests and other related paperwork. We hope to have a final tally to announce on March 19. OK, on to the big issue. As most of you know by now, Elks #6 has significantly raised our luncheon prices, and the number of meals we must guarantee each month. Elks #6 insists they are forced to pass on their increased costs for food, wine, and labor. After intense negotiations back and forth, we came to an agreement. Beginning with our April meeting, we will pay $25 per member. The price will include food, wine service and our guarantee of 90 members at each meeting. The price increase is steep, especially after the one last year, but Elks #6 is still highly competitive. We considered going elsewhere. In addition to price, we compared location (close-by for most members, parking (safe and ample), and venue quality (one of the best overall values). So, after a thorough review, we chose to stay. So, spend a little extra and help us meet our new monthly guarantee. Attend all the remaining meetings you can reasonably make. The up side still remains. Excellent food, outstanding guest speakers, and fellowship with good friends! See you all on Monday, March the 19th. Ken Hill
