FLY FISHING FESTAVILE Preparations are well under way to make this the best ever. Let me give you an overview of how the day will unfold. 7:00 am Set up Crews arrive and prepare the area. 8:00 am Fishing begins. From 8am-5pm, the fishing will continue in shifts, as all anglers attempt to match wits with the "hogs of the holler." 11am-2pm- We will be serving lunch at our streamside cafe. For only $5, you will receive your choice of a hot dog, or Turkey sandwich, plus chips, a cookie, and a drink. All food is to be prepared by Chef Shermaan, classically trained in Paris. 5pm Fishing Ends 5:30-6:30 Raffles and Silent and Live Auctions. We already have several nice items to auction or raffle, but we could use more. Please look around your house, and find something we could use. Bring it the day you come, please. The highlight of the raffles will be the drawing for Ken Nichol's custom made bamboo rod. We only have 35 tickets left. Somebody is going home with this beautiful rod. Call me or Ken if you need tickets. 6:30- Supper- Once again Pat is cooking the finest barbecue this side of Alaska. Sherman and I are doing baked beans. We're asking each member to bring a dessert or a side dish, or both. I am attaching two documents that will enable you to sign up and email them back to me. If you can't make this work, email me directly. This is going to be a fun day. Just remember that it's our only fund raiser of the year. It takes everybody's efforts and generosity to make it successful.

PROJECT HEALING WATERS VA Clinic Oakwood We are now up and running at the VA clinic in Oakwood. On the first and third Wednesday of every month, we will be spending a couple of hours with the vets, teaching them fly tying, casting, and the TU mission. Gold Rush is partnered in this ongoing project with both the Foot Hills and Rabun Chapters. In order to make this project work, we need YOU. This is a great way to spend a morning, giving back to these folks who have sacrificed so much. It's a small thing we do to try to contribute. This is an ongoing project, so if you can't make it the first couple of times, that's ok. Keep it in the back of your mind. We'll appeal again. Just remember, over the long haul, we very much need you. If you are interested, you can respond to this e-mail, or contact Ken McKinnon, wildturkeyflyer@gmail.com. Ken is our lead on this, and has done an outstanding job. He and Ron Thomas have been working on this for over a year now, and have stuck with it through thick and thin. It's been a long haul, but these two have pulled it off. The next time you see Ken, give him a big 'Thank You' for all his we need tiers and casters and plain old talkers to lend a hand on the first and third Wednesday of each month

programs October/Speaker: Chase Pritchett (FFF/CCI, Commercial Fly Tyer, Guide) Program: Winter Nymphing on the DH Also ------The North Georgia Fisheries staff is soliciting public input on a proposal to change all seasonal trout streams to year-round status. We want to hear from you and your Chapter members on this proposal. I d like to speak to your Chapter at your October or November meeting, if possible. I can either do a full program or a shortened one that hits the high points but only lasts 5-7 minutes (I can stick around for questions to expand on it with individuals). November 4/Speaker: Jimmy Jacobs (Author/Guide) Program: Hiking to N.GA Wild Trout Streams December - Christmas Party (no speaker) January 6, 2015/Speaker: Rene Hesse (Casting Instructor) Program: Casting Heavy Flies vs. Bulky Flies

Council summery Georgia Council Quarterly Meeting - Sept. 13, 2014 The Council meeting was hosted by our newest chapter "Middle Georgia". The meeting was held at the Go Fish Education Center in Perry Georgia. We had a guided tour after the meeting and it was great education. Please consider joining us at the next quarterly meeting - all members are invited to see how TU and the Council works and supports the chapters. Gold Rush was represented by Mike Thornton, Sherman Head and myself. Below is a summary of topics that were covered. The major topic was the election of new Council officers for the new year beginning in Oct. * Officers for 2014 / 2015. - Chairman - Carl Riggs - Secretary - Louisa Hanney - Treasurer - Matthew Debacher - Fist Vice Chair - Kathy Breithaupt - Second Vice Chair - Brad Cruickshank - Executive Committee - Fred Ruppel plus more to be announced. * Georgia Council website - continues to be enhanced. Please check it out - http://georgiatu.org/ * Matching Funds - This committee has provided chapters matching funds to help with their projects. i.e. Gold Rush received a grant to cover 1/2 of their expense for the Trout in the Classroom project. * TU continues to work on partnerships with Bass Pro and the new Cabela's location. A TU Kiosk is planned for both locations. * Dream Trip tickets for 2015 were distributed to chapters to begin the sales efforts. * Trout Camp for 2015 is scheduled for June 7-12, 2015. Each chapter gets to send 2 kids. Not to early to find candidate Many other topics were discussed. Please contact me if you have any questions or if you would like further detail.
