Hello Readers. From my desk. The role of a Club Child Protection Delegate is an extremely important role. The Vade Mecum - District Reference and Guidebook lists the delegated person for each club. The primary function of the delegate is to maintain the club s child protection records - DCSI clearance or Ochre Card and to ensure that a Rotarian that doesn t hold a clearance does not engage in one-on-one or small group activities with youth. RI Policy expects all Rotarians to have a current clearance certificate and a function of the President is to ensure that all Club members have a current clearance. Where a member fails to hold this clearance the Club President is to be informed and the Rotarian is not permitted, under any circumstances to be engaged with youth. This policy protects the Rotarian, the Club and RI from any potential unwanted outcomes. Keep well til next time, PeterS Rotary: Making a Difference 1

ROTARY CLUB OF PLAYFORD IN-ACTION After hearing about a heart attack at a local sporting complex we decided that we should do something about it. After a little bit of research, a defibrillator was purchased and presented to the Argana Park Sporting Complex at Elizabeth Park. The complex is the home of cricket, football and net ball is played nearby. The management group at the facility are very grateful and with sport played there almost every week throughout the year one of their concerns has been alleviated. President John Fischer and PP Lyn Shaw made the presentation to the complex s management. 2

RIDE TO CONFERENCE Our D9500/9520 Conference at Tanunda is now less than 5 months away. Five months is a good period to get into training for some distance riding. Adelaide to Tanunda, via Gawler and Lyndoch is 80km and a flat ride. A nice comfortable ride if you ve done some training. The ride out to Gawler (50km) via Mawson Lakes, Salisbury and Elizabeth dodges the major roads, then onto the Northern Expressway Stuart O Grady Bike Track. After Gawler you continue on the Jack Bobridge rail trail to Tanunda via Lyndoch. For those who don t feel confident about riding all the way, there is the train out to Gawler, or put the bike on the car to where you think you can manage. There may be some of you out in the country who may consider riding from another direction. The RC of Irymple, in Victoria is expected to be riding from their home town. This is just an expression of interest to see how many members of D9500/9520 would be interested in a Ride to Conference. This will be an opportunity to raise funds for a Rotary Program such as ARH. It is envisaged that the ride would start early Friday Morning 23/3 and arrive in time for the start of Conference. Anyone interested please contact : Russell Green Regency Park Rotary Club rusgreen@bigpond.net.au 5
